Watching the time-lapse field install is pretty cool.

Playing in Australia and Ireland are just as gimmicky.
I don't disagree. For me, college football is about the matchups and not the location. The matchups next week are weak. Hopefully, there will be a few upset alerts but I'm not expecting much.

I thought a great part of tonight's game was it was on campus and not at a neutral dome. Does UT go the ND next year?
UT went to South Bend last year. And got its clocked cleaned 38-3.

Texas has USC the next two years, then LSU for two, then Ohio State for two, then Michigan for two. Piggy is in there somewhere too. All home-and-homes.

The Gators are loading up on another solid non-conference cupcake parade of UMass, North Texas and Presbyterian this year. A small price to pay for LSU. The is the only prime game.

Lol at all the "Notre Dame wins games like this" comments in this thread. Kelly's done a solid job with the program, but they often come up small in big games. Tonight was par for the course.

What a game. Great college football atmosphere. In terms of ND's postseason chances, it's not a terrible loss. 50-47. Double OT. First game of the season, on the road, with a crazy crowd. If ND runs the table after this, they're probably still in the playoff.

Among all the teams we saw this weekend against more than token opposition (so Michigan and tOSU aren't in the discussion), was there anyone besides Alabama, and perhaps Houston (due to their soft schedule) that didn't look extremely likely to lose at least two games this season? I realize it's likely that three or four P5 programs will get a little lucky and assemble undefeated or one-loss seasons, but it seems even harder than usual to predict which programs will do that.

Given that there are 0 matchups of currently-ranked opponents in Week 2...nope.
That just means there's bound to be an upset or two.

Just watched that brutal run by Swoopes for the first down in OT. Gladiatorial carnage. It's like the QB situation went from butterknife to Swiss Army knife in the offseason.

Well I tend to agree they probably still make playoff if they run the table , and I think ND will still likely end up with a better final record than Texas, I just don't see a way ND runs the table. There are no sure thing losses, but there are about 5 or 6 teams that could beat them, and I sure don't see them as a great team

He really lowered the boom on that poor safety.

They did deploy the two quarterbacks just about perfectly and that 18-wheeler package is a devastating change of pace. I'm really curious to see what wrinkles Gilbert might add to it.

Here's hoping Florida State/Ole Miss is a good game to finish this weekend.

Oh and

Largest opening weekend game ever I believe.

Perhaps Clemson belongs alongside Bama -- not nearly as dominant in Week 1, but @FSU isn't looking as tough as it was a couple days ago, and the rest of the sked is as easy as it gets for a P5 team.

Problem is, that game in Tallahassee is probably a must-win -- a loss there probably means no ACC title game, and I'm not sure a one-loss season with no conference title is good enough to punch Clemson's ticket.

Getting way ahead of ourselves here. So if this ends 42-10 (just for argument's sake), and Ole Miss finishes 8-4 and FSU runs the ACC table, are the Noles in the conversation? Someone's gotta get left out of the power 5. My biased desire would be the ACC stays home.

The absence of a CCG puts the Big XII at a disadvantage. Unless someone in that conference runs the table, I think there's room for a one-loss ACC champion -- especially if that one loss comes early.

Of course, the smart money says the FSU team that's getting routed tonight won't go 3-0 against Clemson, UF, and their ACCCG opponent (let alone taking care of business against everyone else).

I thought Noles got a bad spot on that second down run but no excuse to not make it on 3rd

Of course, over at the EasternSouthPravdaNetwork, you will find the FSU-Ole Miss game story, but no "Our Billion Dollar Binky Sucks Ass All Over Week 1" piece.

Man I was just thinking how great that Texas/ND game was. Notre Dame should play Texas every season. And play Michigan and Michigan State every year, too. And Purdue, that's a good series. And Northwestern too. Of course, Stanford and USC, they already play them. Also, Navy, and well Army and Air Force too while we're at it. And BC too, Jeweled Shillelagh is a great rivalry game. And BYU, of course, they make sense too. And they need a couple games down south, why not Duke and Georgia Tech? And Miami, those games way back when were great. And, duh, if they play Purdue they should play Indiana and heck, Ball State too. The Battle of Letterman and Regis, right? Wait they need an SEC team, how about South Carolina? Lou Holtz coached them both! So if Notre Dame just plays those 18 games every season, it'll be perfect.

Two words. LAMAR JACKSON. After going for like 8 td's passing and rushing last week, the Louisville QB has 5 more in the 1st half tonight. He's got 283 yards passing and a td, and 139 yards rushing and 4td's. There is still 3:23 left in the quarter. He's played less than 4 full quarters this year, and he is responsible for 13td's so far.

His last touchdown was a ludicrous hurdle over a defender on a rush to the outside at the 5 yard line, and then he walked into the end zone. Not a just barely jumped over part of a defender, a straight up hurdle over a defender who was 4+ feet off the ground coming in for a tackle. You'll see it on Sportscenter and probably the ESPY awards this year. .

Syracuse scores quick to make it 35-14. Lamar is going to get the ball again with over two minutes left. Fun stuff.

Jackson needs about 10 yards rushing to become the first QB in FBS history to have 400 yards passing and 200 yards rushing in one game. It's still the 3rd quarter.

Make it 5 more yards rushing needed.

Wow, Jackson got to 200 yards rushing, but then lost a yard on the next play. He hasn't run it since, and they've busted this wide open, so unless they know he's 1 yard away from doing something that has never been done, I don't see him coming back out.
