That was a tough spot for IU. Give Crean credit for scheduling an in-state true road game as most coaches wouldn't do that. Fort Wayne treated that game like their championship game and IU just hoped to show up and win with pure talent alone.

Scheduling like that should happen more in college sports, but events like last night will keep it from happening.

I would hope it wouldn't stop the top teams. That loss, this early, won't hurt IU at all if they play like they should the next 4 months.

IU was the home team.

"Officially, the Hoosiers traveled nearly 200 miles to play a home game. Indiana sold more tickets to the game and played its customary pregame video on the board above midcourt. "

Western Michigan basketball player Joeviair Kennedy has been charged with murder and armed robbery in connection with the death of a fellow student, the AP reported Monday.

Kennedy allegedly shot and killed a 19-year-old student named Jacob Jones in an off-campus apartment Dec. 8. Authorities believe the homicide was part of an attempt to rob Jones of his phone and money.

Kennedy was first arrested as a person of interest Friday and was set to be arraigned in Kalamazoo on Monday.

Pretty damn good game on ESPN right now. Kentucky Louisville. Louisville has just opened up a six-point lead.

How nice, K had the other coach and kid come into his coaches office so they can accept Allen's apology. Nice deflecting Koach Kuragious.

Oregon buzzer beater 3 over UCLA. Oregon kids storm the floor but game was not over. Refs don't call a technical. Bill Walton doing color goes nuts on the no call and about storming the court being unsafe. They clear the floor and UCLA barely gets a shot off. Walton gets mad again when the kids storm the floor again. First loss for UCLA. Also, Lonzo Ball is very good.

Heard he was doing his usual conference of champions spill in full force. He's so over the top and biased like dookie V

It was incredible the way he was ranting about the players' safety being endangered over and over again. Like the were injured UCLA players all over the place as the result of an incredibly dramatic victory.

1. Lonzo Ball had a pretty mediocre game... it was terrifying when he (finally) made those few shots later in the second half.

2. Had UCLA snatched the ball and tried to inbound, it would have been a technical - however... the refs needed to check the clock to reset it to 0.8 seconds and that delay afforded UO to clear the floor of idiot kids #smh

3. I LOVE Big Red calling games... my brother set the O/U of "Conference of Champions" mentions at 10.5 and he nearly hit the over in the first half, though I think he ended with only about 13 or 14, remarkably. I don't think we had a single Grateful Dead reference last night... a couple Bob Dylan references, but nothing from the Dead... in Eugene... for Walton, that's unbelievable.

Cool story: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/police-prank-michigan-walk-on-before-offering-him-full-scholarship-190744259.html

It usually isn’t a good thing when the police interrupt a men’s basketball meeting and say, “we need to talk to one of your players.”

Two men in uniform walked into a Michigan men’s basketball team meeting on Monday and told walk-on guard Andrew Dakich that his conduct on campus is related to a number of ongoing investigations. They said that Dakich, the son of ESPN college basketball analyst Dan Dakich, was needed in the university’s compliance office immediately.

Dakich, who sounded scared out of his mind replied, “Okay” and shifted uncomfortably.

He probably thought he was in trouble. But it was just a prank as the officers told him that Michigan coach John Beilein was offering him a full ride basketball scholarship for the rest of the school year.

The Dumpster fire known as Texas basketball just kicked off the leading scoring indefinitely.

I'll be shocked if Shaka is coaching Texas in fall 2018. They won't end up winning 12-13 games this season.

Addition by subtraction?

It's been a bad year but they have some talented young players plus three four star recruits coming in next year. I would bet on Smart figuring it out.

Those talented young players look terrible and play like they hate Shaka Smart. They got schooled by Wright State and TCU for Christ's sake.

Wake Forest joining the party lead by John Collins, a soph big with his 6th consecutive 20 point game in a good win today over GA Tech. Kid is going to be a superstar. Wake is an improving young team that just needs to learn how to play with a 4th quarter lead and close out games.

Not sure why I'm so annoyed with no mention of the #13 Ducks being entirely omitted from this one writer's opinion piece.
I'll just have to take solace in the way they comported themselves against Arizona yesterday by whipping the #5 Cats by 27.
Just curious... do you guys even see any games this team plays? Or is it just roundly ignored around the country that Oregon is probably (at the very least arguably...) the best team in the west, because they're not called UCLA or Arizona?

No one pays attention to those teams until you see one as a #3 seed in your own teams bracket in march and you frantically look up their schedule to see if they played any teams east of the Rockies.

I know you're right... Oregon is going to be a top-3 seed in one of the regions unless something dramatic changes in the last-third of the season.

So in advance of that frantic search, I'll offer this...

The Baylor loss and the Georgetown loss were in Maui and without Dillon Brooks. And the corresponding win against UConn was equally unimportant. The Colorado loss is an oddity in that the Ducks haven't won at Boulder in the 7 years Altman has been here...

Winning at home is what the Ducks do best, because they are deep and experienced. A very safe pick to the Elite 8... beyond that, well? I'm a homer and I like a First Ever (modern-era) Final 4 appearance because they are really quite good.

It's going to be so hard to know what to make of them come tournament time. I assume they will get the number one overall seed and even the stats adjusted for competition find them the best team in the country.

But an interesting thought experiment, and one that I think will be relevant, what would their record be in the ACC?

Gonzaga has the 116th ranked Strength of Schedule. That's awful. They are too well-coached to be compared to Witchita State a few years back when KY beat them in the second round to end their undefeated season, but I still believe that Gonzaga will go into the tournament untested and this will hurt them. Remember last year how even a mediocre Syracuse team ended up in the Final Four? That happens because in the ACC you get better by playing really, really good teams every single game.

Edit - My best guess? They still make the tournament in the ACC but that's all I'm comfortable saying. It's just too hard to tell what type of team they are playing the 116th best schedule.

Gonzaga got the #4 overall seed in the mock top 16 so they are hanging on by a thread for a #1 seed. They won't get the #1 overall seed even if they are undefeated because their WCC schedule, as mentioned, is awful.
