Yeah, I get that. I guess it just seems unfair when you get a guy like Day who wins 2 of the first 3 but they take away points. I get they want the TC to be meaningful and not have a repeat of when Vijay just had to show up and play 4 rounds to collect 4 million, but it seems like this could be handled a bit better.

Stenson is starting to leak some oil here. Back to back bogeys and his lead is down to 1 over Spieth. Rory 2 back, but this is basically a Spieth/Stenson dual for $10 million.

Rory doubles 18. Stenson and Spieth it is, with Fowler lurking. 3 of the 5 "win and get $10 million" in the final 2 groups is pretty much the best the PGA could've asked for.

Amazing par save by Spieth on 16.

Do you think it's unfair when a team that wins the president's cup doesn't win the Stanley cup?

And that will do it, as Stenson takes a second shot like something I would do on 17.

Congratulations to Jordan on an awesome season.

$22 million bucks.  22 years old.  You play golf for a living.  Man, it's good to be Jordan Spieth right about now.

I have nothing to base this on but from a pure entertainment value I think the season has to be up there with the best I've seen.   Next year could top it as well with a healthy Rory.

I agree, especially if Spieth and Day both come out firing from the start of the season.  I really think there is more top end talent in the game right now than I can ever remember there being, and most of them are really easy to root for.  I love where the PGA is right now.

Masters, U.S. Open, the FedEx Cup, the Tour Championship, and a couple other tournaments. Heck of a year. And just when everyone was starting to wonder if Day had an argument for Player of the Year he put on the afterburners to cap his season. Some players are just special. Rory has that. Tiger had it (and then some). Spieth looks like he has it too.

And at the age of 22, too. Even Rory has 4 years on Spieth. That's a historic year for any golfer but for a 22 year old, it's almost impossible to believe.

Today is the final round of the web tour for 25 more cards. Following rob Oppenheim he has mad all 4 cuts and is currently projected for 43rd not good enough. A quick look at the math looks like he needs a t-10 or better which he is 2-3 shots back of today. Wishing him the best.

OMG, Rob is -3 today, just made a bomb par putt on 14 to stay there.  He's currently projected to finish, you guessed it, 26th.  If he gets one more birdie (or guys like Garrigus implode), he'll probably get a card.  He made birdie on 3 of the last 4 holes yesterday.  If he gets in like this, after all he's been through, would be so incredible.

Coming on tv in about 10 minutes.

It's not about where he finishes this tournament, it's where they stand for the playoffs.  He's done, and he's projected to be 28th right now, but there are a lot of guys ahead of him still out there, so we need them to fuck up and he'll move back into the top 25.  Need to root against guys like Garrigus, Aiken, Tway, Guthrie, etc.

Nice! I looked about 30 mins ago and he was stuck at 28. How'd he sneak up to 25?

That's awesome DOTB. Tell him all these internet strangers were rooting for him.

Lucas Glover misses a putt on 18, and Rob gets in.  I'm so fucking happy.

I'm not entirely sure how it all broke down at the end.  I knew he had left the course, and he was sitting at 28.  I had to run out for a bit and then my phone just started going crazy with texts from his family.  Then I knew Glover had a putt to keep him out and I thought he was dead.

Where it rains. No, seriously.
That is so great.  The razor thin margins aren't just in money or a shot here or there, but also in ability, both physical and mental.  One week can change your life, and you don't even need to win for that change to occur.  A single, random T-4 is enough to buy precious time or to slide you up the priority ladder to where you can play the events you really want to on the courses that really suit your game.

I really think the grind on mini-tours (read: non-PGA) is one of the most daunting challenges in sport.

I wasn't able to follow at all today and was so excited for this random person I have no allegiance to. I will be following him next year and wish him the best. What a lesson in perseverance.

My understanding is that 1st or 50th doesn't matter a bit - he's in all the "regular" events he wants to play in. Stuff like wgc events are different but other than that he can show up on a Thursday and play without having to worry about qualifying or anything like that.

Congrats to Rob, DotB. It's been a fun story to follow. About time a missed putt went his way... You planning a road trip to follow him at a tournament yet?

He doesn't have to qualify, but he has to get into the field, and he has the lowest priority ranking. Early fields will be hard for him to get into, and a bunch of top caliber non-majors will be a challenge without improving that ranking.

It does matter. The tour caps fields at 132, 144 and 156 players for "regular" events. They use the priority system to determine who is in and who is out. The priority rankings are based on the money list.

Yeah, that's what I thought - and according to this link on pgatour.com, Rob is 50th out of 50 in terms of his priority ranking. Which means he's going to have to be pretty lucky even to get into a 156-man field after you include all of the other categories of exempt players, sponsor invitations, etc., right? (Not trying to be a downer - just making sure I've got this straight.)

For reference, Eric Axley was in the same spot last year and played in 21 PGA tournaments including the season opener and 4 of the first 8. So Rob should get an opportunity, especially if he plays good golf to open the season.
