Devin Smith broke ribs and punctured a lung in practice a couple days ago. He's out at least 4-6 weeks.
Mo Lewis is still with the Jets?

And his tens of millions.

But seriously, I love the very real prospect that he will finish his career with one Super Bowl ring. And that he will have gotten it with the Patriots.

If he fails the inevitable drug rest, does he get 8 or 16 games under the drug policy? The gun and the kid and the DUI are icing on the cake.

Can't wait.
It's been over a week and this story seems like it is starting to go away. I think that's the correct course of action since the NFL has to focus efforts on real hard hitting stuff like PSI levels and leaking information and such.

Is he officially suspended yet? I didn't see anything other than the initial 4 games for the other craps.

I noticed that the gun part got dropped from the most recent coverage. Pretty soon they'll erase the kid from the incident, too. I don't believe that drugs were officially part of the charge, so they'll be down to "speeding," which is pretty easy to overlook. See, RG knows leniency!

Would you like to place a $100 wager on that with the loser paying Jimmy Fund? I'll even give you a game.

So the line is 4.5 wins for the Jets. They get more then that, you pay the Jimmy Fund $100. They get 4 or less, I'll pay the Jimmy Fund $100.

Or were you just talking out of your ass and being a total idiot?

The Jets will win more than 4.5 games.  They're bad but not that bad.  6-10 is my prediction.

You're on, 4.5 O/U, loser pays the Jimmy Fund. Why not.

How dare you talk out of your ass and be an idiot towards my team!  There is no way they are going to be 3-13 this year.  I am willing to put dollars on the table that says they will be at LEAST 5-11.

Gotta love Jets fans.

Antonio Allen's MRI on Achilles confirmed what Jets believed/feared: Out for the year. #NYJ waived/injured Allen. Signed CB Keon Lyn

FWIW, the Jets should be around 8-8 this year.  Defense will be very good and added weapons on offense will make a difference.  Bowles is not tied to Geno Smith so he will have no problem benching him for Fitzpatrick if he struggles early.

I think this is very fair. I have them a tiny bit higher than this (I say "around 9-7" but yeah) but we are very much in the same ballpark and totally agree re: Geno/Fitzpatrick. I pretty much agree with every word of your post for why they will improve this year.

I may be wrong a lot on deflategate but don't think I've ever been accused of lacking integrity.

FWIW, I think if the Jets get off to a lousy start they may implode, but if they have some early success I could see a scenario where they win 7 to 9 games

The Jets, Dolphins, and Bills will suffer in that all three look better on paper than last year.  It's not any one of them vs. the Pats with two tomato cans in the mix.

Of course the Pats will suffer due to that as well.

This does seem like a fair assessment to me, but Bowles is an unknown.  He very well may turn out to be a quality NFL coach, but he might be the next guy in a long line of good coordinators that lacks whatever it is to be the head guy.  He has been coaching in the NFL for 15 years and is getting his first headcoaching gig at any level.  He seems like a level headed dude, but I'm curious how he will handle things like the clock before halftime or the end of the game.  A team that seems like a fair bet to be in the 7-8 to 9-7 range can't afford to drop a game or two due to bone head in game coaching.

My suspicion is that the Jets will end up with between 6-8 wins.  But the injuries are mounting early for them and Geno still blows major chunks.

The thing that worries me a bit about them, in addition to what looks like a very deep D-line and secondary, is Bowles.  For the first time in a long time, they have a coach who seems to be thoughtful and intelligent.  The players loved Rex but that was partly because he was easy on them.  Watching the Jets make fewer mental mistakes -- which I expect with Bowles -- is not something I am looking forward to.

Yep. One of the things not being said about the East is how the Jets improve by losing Rex and how the supposed improvement of the Bills due to Rex is overall a downgrade from the thoroughly mediocre Doug Marrone.

Geno > Fitzpatrick. The Harvard man will get tims4wins a victory in his bet.

I would think that being a Jets fan is slightly more rewarding than having leprosy.

It's a bet. He'd be an idiot not to take the best odds he can get to win.

Well, it is an Internet bet where the only real winner is a charity so as between the two posters it is really only about bragging rights. In that context challenging someone to a bet because they "talked out of their ass" and said your favorite team would only win 3 games, and then setting the line at 4.5 games is funny to me.

"My team isn't going to be completely awful. Just run-of-the-mill bad, so you take that back!"

But both parties sem happy with the bet so carry on.

Is that really a hit though? He is fourth on the depth chart, shows just how deep the jets secondary appears to be.

Anyone want to try a Jets preview for ITP? New coach, new secondary, same Geno.

Jets should have sold low (or high) on Milliner. They had inquiries on him way back in March in a trade:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000479716/article/report-jets-received-trade-inquiries-on-dee-milliner

The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports that teams have inquired about Milliner's availability in trade talks, but the Jets aren't willing to ship the 23-year-old out of town. At least not for cheap, yet.

Milliner played 13 crappy games as a rookie, then only 3 last year due to the Achilles injury. Apparently some teams were ready to part a mid-rounder as a reclamation project, but those offers have long evaporated.

Good news for TGG: nickel back Skrine had had a standout camp so far. Cromartie may be the weak link in their secondary.

“@domcosentino: Geno out 6 to 10 weeks becuse of an altercation in the locker room. Broken jaw. Requires surgery. IK Enemkpali hit him. Been released. #Jets”

“@MikeGarafolo: From what I was told, Smith put his finger in Enemkpali’s face during an argument and that’s what led to the punch.”

So dumb. The jokes write themselves.

From the team perspective, I like Fitzpatrick way more than Geno (especially with this roster) so I'm not upset but the optics can't help but leave me shaking my head.
