Woody Johnson can't even take out the trash without setting the dumpster on fire.

If he drags this on only to have Rex get fired after the hiring window closes, it'll just damage their reputation further.

...which is exactly what I would expect WJ to do.

Hate when I'm wrong. WJ does really like Rex, and firing him Monday is the right thing to do.

How long before Elway calls Rex to be a defensive assistant for this years's playoffs like Josh McDaniels did for NE after he was fired by the Broncos?

I'm mostly kidding. But is that even allowed anymore? I remember the league was going to ban it because of the backlash.

PS - My phone auto-corrects "Elway" to "Sleazy".
I am pretty sure it's not allowed anymore after what McDaniels did.

I really do expect Daniel Snyder to reach out to Rex ... Just because.

I have heard, though, that Rex is like to spurn DC roles in favor of a tv gig. And he certainly has to be smart enough not to come here.

Thank God. While it's too much to pray Rex will go away forever, at least he's been shticanned. Never has someone talked so goddamn much and accomplished so little. Whatever strengths he has are more than outweighed by his crippling weaknesses.

He can talk about being a winner and all that crap, just like his fraud of a father did, but in the end he's a bad head coach and his record provides ample proof. I wouldn't hire this fucking guy to manage a Dairy Queen.

Per Rap, it's HC or TV for Rex, who hired a TV agent a year ago.

Floral Park Follies -- there is something so deliciously NY about them. The self aggrandizement, lack of awareness, expectations and reactions. I will miss this part of it.

RapSheet said Woody Johnson feels that he got "duped into thinking Idzik had more football knowledge than he really had."

Woops!
And you should expect what when you hire a non-football managent consultant to guide the search that netted Idzik?

That's a preposterous assignment on its face.

It's hard to show less business acumen or a greater sense of entitlement. "But he TOLD me during the interview that he has great experience in player evaluation. I can't believe he exaggerated his resume!"

So you mean hiring a guy who had zero personnel experience to BE THE HEAD OF PERSONNEL was a bad decision?  Holy shit Woody.

LOL this.

Woody hired a full suite of consultation services before hiring Idzik. Passing the blame is really WJ's forte.

I don't think Idzik did a good job by any means, but he got a raw deal. Only two years when coming into a terrible situation and having a coach on you who has major flaws.

Apparently CBS Sports is reporting interest in Jim Mora Jr. for NY.

The most striking thing to me is that, once again, we're talking HC of NYJ without there being a GM of NYJ.

And a HC you could not replace. But he knew that going in.

So long, Rexy. It's been classless.

As for Idzik, time to start praying for some more incompetent GM hires. The roster is in a good spot to be turned around by someone who knows what they're doing.

Yup. I also suspect he had significant owner-imposed restriction on spending money. He took a job he probably wasn't qualified for and without having the power he probably needed to get it done and know he's paying the price.

Do you think so? I don't see a ton of talent, and they badly need some help at QB, OL, edge rushers, secondary, etc.

I feel the same way. He would have been much better off if the Jets didn't over-achieve in 2013. They were a very lucky 8-8, they had a point differential of -97. He could have fired Rex last year if the Jets hadn't eked out some tight games. He picked Geno and that doomed him. He did a good job with the salary cap.

And he acknowledged cash strapping dzik. So why did you do it?

Interesting that he has retained both Wolf and Casserly. If they disagree on the path forward, then what?

Obviously if you get a chance at being a GM (only one of 32 possible jobs), you take it, and clearly Idzik was overmatched at the job, but if you are a talented GM candidate, do you really want to come and work for this clown? This burying of everyone but himself cannot be doing Woody any favors in getting real talent to come to New York.

So who do we think Woody should hire? Should he hire one man to do both GM and HC?  Two?  NFL retreads?  An up and coming OC or assistant GM/Personnel man?  Someone from the college ranks?

Don't speculate on who Woody will hire, but who he should hire.  Who would put the most fear into the hearts of Patriot fans and other AFC East rivals?

I think saying they badly need help at OL and edge rusher sounds a bit overstated to me. More like they add someone average and the unit is fine. But if you insist I'll defer.

They badly need help at QB and DB, I agree. They have a ton of cap and all their picks. They're front 7 overall is quite strong. They have some interesting players at the skill spots. I don't see why they can't compete in 2016 with 2 off seasons of competent roster management.

I don't really have anything substantive to add, but I note for the record than there are apparently five successive generations of men named Brick Johnson (including one of Woody's kids).

Tell me why any self-respecting GM candidate will look at the Woody Johnson conference & not think twice about working with that organization.

Unfortunately for the Jets fans, there's nobody who could fire the owner himself.

Per @NEPD_Loyko: Mike Westhoff says on @sny that a few of his coaching/FO sources say Brian Xander is the name to watch for #Jets GM.

Wiki snippet on Xanders: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Xanders

During his tenure as the Broncos’ general manager, Broncos won the AFC West Division in 2011-2012, where 55/61 players (90%) were acquired through the draft, free agency or re-signed during his tenure as GM.

Denver became only the third team since the 1970 NFL merger to win its division and a playoff game with a new head coach following four wins the previous season.

The Broncos executed high-producing NFL Draft classes over the last three years, which finished #1 in the NFL in playtime and #2 in games started during a three year period, 2010-12. There are twelve primary starters from those draft classes, including four Pro Bowl players: LB Von Miller, WR Demaryius Thomas, TE Julius Thomas and OG Zane Beadles (Jaguars).

There were also eight other Pro Bowl players who were acquired, signed or extended during his tenure: QB Peyton Manning (FA, 2012), SS Brian Dawkins (UFA, 2009-11), WR Brandon Lloyd (FA, 2009-11), RB Willis McGahee (FA, 2011), CB Champ Bailey (re-signed, 2011), DE Elvis Dumervil (re-signed, 2010), WR Brandon Marshall (re-signed, 2010), and OT Ryan Clady (1st round, 2008).

Is there a GM candidate today with the bones to say to Woody:

I'll come on, but only with total control. I hire the HC and we together hire the staff, and you get no input unless an individual under consideration has caused you harm.

I manage the cap, the front office, the draft process and FA, and only the most franchise altering decisions get run by you?

And, of course, I decide where we are going at QB. Everything now is sunk cost.

Then, you hold me accountable.

?

That's the only way this gets fixed.

Yup. Definitely tempering. So Jetsian.

Jim Mora?  Would be a classic Jets move, and guarantee 6 wins for the Pats over the next three years.

About as clear-cut example as I could imagine (see #46). However, the owners being enormously protective of one another, will probably find a way to dodge the issue. After all, Bobby and his crew need to remain on friendly terms with Tete du Bois.

Rex must have been cloned from Woody's DNA. Or vice-versa. Wolf will love this clown show.

I think this is true, too -- he's the best and worst of NY: entertaining blowhard who thinks shouting he's the greatest makes it so. Perfect rep of NYC and explains why he's still loved there, seemingly.

Agree fully -- he sucks, but he's least at fault and is leaving his successor with a good rebuild situation, very unlike what he inherited.
