Man we got off Revis Island at exactly the right time. And I wish him nothing but good things because he contributed substantially to a championship.

Anyone want to provide odds that the week 16 game between the Pats and Jets gets flexed, especially if the Pats win @ Denver? Currently the Ravens/Steelers is the Sunday Night game, and I can't believe that they keep that game there, nor do I see a ton of week 16 alternatives. Panthers/Falcons and Packers/Cards are the only other games that I see that could be put in that spot.

Packers-Cardinals could mean more in the playoff race

I blame you. I'm sure there are others, but this one is mine.

EDIT: Odds are 0:0 now, fuckface.

I totally read that as "... gets fixed". I've been reading the goat thread too much.

The 718
Jets looked pretty good against NYG, especially in keeping their cool in 4th Q/OT.

Fitz and Marshall/Decker are starting to develop a rapport, and with Ivory an Powell, the offense looks capable.

Still, lots of problems: NYG pass rush was too strong; gave up the big play to Odell; too many stupid penalties to extend the Gisnts' drive.

If these guys can fill some holes next year (TE especially) they could be trouble. Safe to say that the clown show is over , though Bowles does suck at clock management.

The clown show may be over, but the talent - aside from the D line - is getting really old.

They're all playing til 45, buddy. Tom should have kept the concussion water all for himself. Seriously, they are old as hell. Rex skipped town without leaving many groceries in the fridge.

So it looks like Sheldon Richardson isn't going to get suspended, at least not this season. NFL FO sure calls it right down the middle.

Love this team this year. Probably my favorite team since 2002, but doesn't look like playoffs are going to happen. I can't see KC or PITT dropping any remaining regular season games.

I call bullshit. There's no way that you weren't crazy excited about Sexy Rexy's 09-10 teams. Firemen Ed was making thousands of dollars for personal appearances, Greenwich cougars and their daughters were making b-lines to Mark Sanchez, you couldn't buy green and white Zubaz if you wanted to given how crazy Jets nation was about the team. The Jets were so freaking good that Sean Berry was routinely posting.

If NY somehow wins 2 and KC/PIT both win 2 also, NY can still get in over DEN if they lose once. KC would win the division and NY has the tiebreaker on DEN.

I have always hated Rex so that really took the shine off those teams for me. I could tolerate but did not like Bart Scott. I really did not like how Mangini was fired after the Favre debacle. Those Rex teams had better results but were nowhere near as fun to root for as Pennington bursting onto the scene during the "play to win the games, hello" year. I was really thinking SB that year after winning the first round 41-0 after starting the season 1-4 or something, but the Raiders were too good for us.

Given a redo under current rules, I think we take that raiders team as they were (legally) mugging our WRs

How does gam gam feel about this years Jets?
Oh man, everyone that lived in the house with me is dead. My buddy calls me the reaper because my aunt and uncle I lived with (like siblings to me) died in their 30s. They all would hate the Jets. She would love Fitzpatrick though just because of his potato eating name.

Dammit well that worked about as well as the time I told Riley I slept with his wife. Turns out she was in a coma.

Your name is buck and you like to fuck?

Don't worry, one time in grad school I shared an office with a pregnant girl in another department (I was not the father) anyway, had an office switch, saw the girl and her husband a year later and asked really nicely "hey, how's the baby?"

Baby died shortly after child birth. I didn't know. That was a great moment in my life.

Funny, I had Shelterdog's reaction too. Jets fans around me were in quite the lather during the Rex-Sanchez AFC Finalist years. But to each his own.

One Jets fan of today e-mailed me this article and was a little butthurt that Bill -- in his view -- is taking the Jets lightly. Rex would clearly have gone there for a little spice; Bowles is sadly much more level headed.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/12/21/belichick-resting-players-something-we-have-to-think-about/

Here are the offending paragraphs:

On Monday, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked about the possibility of resting players in the next two weeks with a first round bye already wrapped up and several key players already lost for the season to injuries. He said that there needs to be a balance with trying to win, but that it’s something the team has to think about doing in order to be as close to full strength as possible for the postseason.

“We’ll just have to do the best that we can to balance all those things out,” Belichick said via a transcript distributed by the team. “That’s something we’ll have to give some thought to and get as much information as possible because there are some guys that are in various states of physical health. We’ll have to work our way through all that. It’s definitely a challenging situation. I wish I had a cleaner answer on it, but really we’re just going to have to work it out.”

He gets asked that question every year and that's pretty detailed for him. Better than the usual "We'll do what's best for the team" --full stop--.

I was once at a bachelor party and one of the other guys was engaged to an ex of mine from college. I barely knew him. The girl was pregnant. We were all high on mushrooms sitting around a fire drinking bourbon and talking about our families. I was relaying some anecdote about my kid being cute or projectile vomiting or maybe both, and I turned to the guy and said something along the lines of "and you'll be enjoying that soon enough." He didn't say much. Found out the next day that she had miscarried less than a week before the party.

WOOOOOOOO

That out of the way, the Rex Bowl takes on a lot of importance. Pats did some very non pats things in the game today but also got a fluky TD.

Hope Ivory and Powell are close to 100% and that Rexys players have quit on him.

Nice write up on Bowles.

"He's unbelievably great," Bowles told ESPN.com about Belichick, not Ryan. "I don't know if beating him means too much to my team because it was such a crucial situation for us, but I have the utmost respect for him as a person and as a coach. They are a great team, man. They've clinched [a playoff spot] already, and we're trying to get where they are.

Told his no-nonsense, robo-tone approach resembles Belichick's, minus the confrontational edge (for now), Bowles laughed out loud and said, "I hope it's not looks." He said Belichick shook his hand after the Jets' 26-20 victory, told him it was a good game and immediately moved on to the New England Patriots' next and final chance to lock down the No. 1 seed on the AFC side of the postseason bracket.

"I'm sure they're not going to lose too much sleep over it," Bowles said. "We needed it more than they did. We're just trying to play the game the right way and not get too high over a win or too low over a loss, because that affects you the next week. ... But you can't sit back and exhale until the season's over. I can exhale for two hours and then it's like, 'Oh s---, it's Buffalo on Monday.' That's the life of a coach.""

Rex knocking the Jets out of the playoffs in a meaningless game for his own team and celebrating like they won the Super Bowl would be so classic Rex and classic Jets Im kind of expecting it.

Interesting take and, if true, a lesson Rexy has never learned.

Good win for the Jets.

Not sure which TD you're referring to as "fluky" - the fumble/return TD was a great play on Sheard's part. All Jets TDs were legit.

Powell has been a revelation. That's a real credit to Bowles to get this much production out of him. Return of a healthy Enunwa is an underrated factor in the run game.

Bowles appears to be a really good coach and I am not thrilled that he is the Jets coach. They finally got one right, not lets see how the GM does over the next few years.

First question is Mo, if I heard correctly, did they say it was his first pro bowl selection? Even with how meaning less that is, how is that possible?

It is what they said and it doesnt make sense to me either, but I pay almost zero attention to pro bowl so don't know who was going over him

Despite being great He's only had one ten sack season. You need sacks to play in the pro bowl

Fluky is the wrong word as it was totally earned. It was about as close to an incomplete pass as you can get without being an incomplete pass. And the Jets linemen should have fallen on it.

If Sunday is any indication, a Bills win on Sunday would not be a total shock. It's not a good matchup for Rex & friends, however.

If Jets don't close the deal, it is still a huge step up for the team. Any fan base will take a 10-win season even if you miss out on the playoffs & drop in the draft slot.

Of course, the big story off-season would be what kind of an extension will Fitzy earn. Not sure if Jets will offer a deal that'll be more than 2 years. Not sure if Fitz takes that, given the lack of a quality starter, even for one that's up & down as Fitz. However, a nice 3-year deal with lots of guaranteed money may make it a win/win deal.

My Pats-centric hope in 2016 is that the poor drafts in the last few years catch up, once the cap room runs out and Fitz's clock rings midnight.

It was a bit of luck, in the same way that all fumble recoveries involve some luck. That said, the Pats are currently first in the league in sacks, and first in forced fumbles so, as they say, you create your own luck.
