So, essentially a year of Revis (and a Super Bowl victory) and the #97 overall draft choice for Talib?  Me likey.  (Me lovey, actually.)

Also, FWIW, this gives NE back-to-back picks in Round 3.  (#96 and #97 overall.)
And #101 at the start of round 4 (for Mankins).

It wasn't entirely like this because NE resigned Talib for 2013 (which gave rise to the comp), but they basically traded:

2013 #126 pick (NE 4th)
-for-
2012 Talib, 2013 # 226 pick (TB 7th), 2015 #97 pick.

That's a good trade.

Revis is probably going to yield a third round compensation pick as well, right?

Pats will get #97 or #98 next year for losing Revis.  Lions will get the other pick for losing Suh.

Revis's contract did not expire; his option was declined and he was released - no pick.

For signing Sheard the Patriots probably will not get a compensation pick for Browner.

Correct, currently they are in line for a 3rd and up to 3 6th rounders (Revis, Wilfork, Vereen, Ayers).
