If the Grigson part is true -- and I have no reason to believe it isn't -- I don't know how you can be surprised by anything in this League anymore. Prowess aside -- e.g., Trent Richardson -- it was reported only days ago that Grigson interferes in a heavy handed way and undermines Pagano by stepping on his efforts to discipline players. So Grigson would appear to be a fusion of Matt Millen and Bobby Grier -- and an asshole to boot. Can the money possibly be worth it?

The Eagles and 49ers are case studies about the perils of deciding a power struggle by making the wrong choice. The Colts decided to become a case study for what happens when you make no choice.

I don't even have words to describe how wonderfully dysfunctional this will be.

LMAO about this. When the chips are down, never bet against Pagano! All in, indeed.

BTW, look at Irsay's color at the press conference... time is short for him, I fear.

The only downside I see here is that the Colts made the playoffs last year so they are exempt from having Hard Knocks forced upon them. It would have been fun to peak under the curtains of this shit show.

(Hard knocks exempt teams must meet at least one out of these three criteria; been on the show in the past 10 years, have a new head coach, made the playoffs in either of the last two seasons)

In Dante's Inferno, in the ninth circle of Hell (traitors), two brothers who killed each other are frozen in ice next to each other, up to their necks for eternity, their mouths frozen shut by their own tears. They can't speak, so they just sit there butting each other's heads, in misery, for eternity.

“@ProFootballTalk: Jim Irsay says that Ryan Grigson is ”contractually tied“ to Chuck Pagano going forward. Suggests Grigson has gotten a three-year extension.”

Also, damn you Costanza, now I have Culture Club stuck in my head. Christ, that song is a worse earworm than Purple Haze.

Keeping Pagano is sort of whatever, he's a mediocre coach in a league full of them, but keeping Grigson is terrible with the caveat that Irsay may simply like having a GM that takes his input and likes to make a splash so whether its Grigson or another clown that fits that description doesn't matter.

You're welcome. It pops into my head every time I see the thread title. Didn't want to be alone in my misery.

So the next time Grigson tells Pagano play this guy and don't discipline that guy, then what? When Pagano, armed with a multi-year extension, tells Grigson to eff himself.

There is about zero chance these details were ironed out in any contract, especially if they were two-tracking this with Payton discussions. And there is less than zero chance that Grigson and Pagano arrived at a kumbaya moment and patched things up.

I remember when people used to make Mike Brown and Bengals the poster boys of dysfunction. That was quaint.

Let's thank our lucky stars for Bob Kraft. He learned.

Oh yeah its a terrible situation and I don't think Pagano is particularly good or anything, but he's not the root problem. Pagano does hold some cards in that I think he has an easier job finding a new gig than Grigson does if the situation blows up.

"If you think I'm going to let somebody bully my head coach, you're wrong...Ryan's not that type of guy..."--Jim Irsay, announcing the outbreak of peace while sitting between them.
Pagano: "No injuries to report."
Irsay with his demons, trying to reconcile his abusive father with the benevolent version?

All these Colts coaching changes are great for the other AFC South teams and AFC contenders. Luck is going to waste away in this franchise.
Perhaps little has helped extend the BB-Brady window more than Luck landing on this mismanaged franchise. The last perennially-elite QB to arrive in the AFC was Roethlisberger a full decade ago. You have a generational QB talent landing on a Colts team that wasn't bereft of talent or mired in a culture of losing at the time (in contrast to most franchises that wind up with the top overall pick), enjoys a strong HFA and plays in a crappy division.

Boy George is arguably a rich man's Jimi Hendrix.
I appreciate the Boy George appreciation.

Unfortunately, Luck is too good to be Sanchized by Schotty. I do hear distant cacklings from Jersey pike W16 exit however.
