Peyton was so shitty this year that very few Bronco fans are pining for his return. The organization is not going to be reviled if they don't force him back in.
No one locally is going to second-guess the organization if they miss the playoffs because they stuck by Osweiler? That was pretty clearly what I laid out as the circumstance for their to be a local impact.

The rest of what I was talking about was the Manning marketing machine, and while it might not be a big issue locally, I'm sure Archie and Peyton's proxies won't be kind to Elway & Kubiak. That will be an issue in the national media, who will need to choose between golden boy (ex-)QBs.

Like I said, the Broncos better beat the Bengals, or it will get (awesomely) catty.

These are the things that I see Bronco fans pissed about or blaming the struggles on in various online places (ranked by frequency, most frequent up top):

The OL
The running game (related to the OL)
Injuries (also related to the OL)
Dropped passes (DT and Vernon Davis catching the most heat)
Play calling/coaching
Roster choices/lack of depth
QB play

To add to my last post, right now a lot of the sentiment about Peyton includes some bashing of him for hiding his foot injury early in the year and trying to play on it in that horrible KC game when he was going for his passing and wins record.

Archie did his son a disservice with Denver fans when he said Peyton had been dealing with foot pain since training camp.

Not many fans want Peyton back throwing picks down the stretch.

Not surprise there in my mind. Mark my words, Manning is not playing another down in his life. I wish it weren't the case because I did enjoy watching him go up in flames.

Spikes right, it's not like Bronco nation (if that's a thing) is burning up the sports talk radio lines demanding Manning come in and start slinging the ball around (to defensive backs and the occasional linebacker).
its broncos country

It got a bit lost in all the HGH hoopla but Jay Glazer had an interesting report yesterday in which he claimed that the Broncos were "Brock Osweiler's team barring some sort of collapse" - meaning, one assumes that they were going to stick with Osweiler even if Peyton gets healthy next week - and that Elway was involved in the decision. I guess we'll see. Glazer has broken some Broncos-related stories in the past from what I recall so I think he may have decent sources here.

As a patriots fan, I really hope nights like this cause Elway to sign Osweiler to long-term deal. I am not terribly impressed. Am I wrong? What say you, Bronco Nation?

I remain impressed enough to want him back. The kid is playing behind the worst Tackles in football. Give him an average OL and more reps and I think he's solid. I still, after 6 starts, see him as a potential Joe Flacco type. Of course his price tag will be key.

I like what I see from Osweiler in the 2-minute drill. Both games I watched with him playing, he has been able to drive down and score or get in position to score when trailing/tied late in the game.

Some of that is because of Thomas and Sanders, but I think he has a lot of potential and could be better than Flacco. But he hasn't done a ton outside of those two-minute drills, so I am not sure how he does working through his progression when his first read is not open.

As a Raiders fan, I really hope they fuck up their negotiations with Osweiler and lose him, even if that means they keep Von Miller. I have been impressed by both his ability and poise in his first real playing time. Spike is right, their tackles are abysmal, their running backs have been terrible and he is basically a rookie. They are going to trade for Joe Thomas and are a perfect destination for a quality running back like Forte, so they will fix both of those problems that are holding Brock back right now. With a full offseason of prep as the starter, he is going to be very good next season, even if the defense is a little weaker after they lose young players like Jackson, Wolf and Travathian.

The best case scenario for Broncos hater like me is that they fuck up the balance between retaining both Osweiler and Von Miller. Frankly, I would rather they were stuck in a Jets or Texans like QB limbo next season even if it means they keep their great defense from this year.

Yeah, that's my take too. Unfortunately, a fairly likely scenario is that Elway convinces Osweiler to sign a somewhat undermarket deal based on Denver being a comfortable situation with a supportive head coach and a strong team. Osweiler will want to lock in money and get paid but this won't be his last contract so I can see him giving up some money in order to increase his chances of succeeding in the near term and therefore entrenching himself as an NFL starter for the next 6-10 years.

For what its worth, Kubiak has already said that Osweiler starts next week so it seems safe to say that, barring injury, Peyton has played his last meaningful down as a Bronco. Although I can see the team giving Manning a garbage time series next weekend just so he can go out with a round of applause.

Manning still leads the NFL in interceptions despite not playing the last 6.5 games, which is pretty hilarious.

Speaking of single season INT leaders, this will be the third time in four seasons that the league leader doesn't eclipse 20 INTs. Before 2012, it had only happened twice since 1965 - Jim Kelly in 1992 with 19 and Joe Ferguson in 1982 with 16.

sorry buddy i wouild fear the raiders long term but unless davis sells and they move to LA or get a new pad the NFL will make them no better than 9-7 denver will have around 42-46 mil to spend the way i see it is fran Von then lock him up in training camp then sign brock to a 3 y 45 mil deal then sign woife to 4 y 36 mil that leves about 8-12 mil $$ to use on a 1-cut RB or a RG RT

To be fair, Brock Osweiler's efficiency ranks around Bradford and Bridgewater, but by my eyes, Brock has shown flashes of talent. He's mobile, can throw on the run, and is generally careful with the ball. One glaring problem, IMHO, is that Brock doesn't go through progressions well. On any given play, he appears to lock on to a single receiver, even if that receiver is well covered. Good coaching may overcome such a flaw, and Kubiak has worked with good QBs in the past (e.g. the vastly underrated Matt Schaub).

I agree that this is probably something that can be helped with experience/coaching. I hate the Broncos but I think they just might have something here with Brock. He certainly doesn't seem to suck, and that's a good starting point.

If you are healthy enough to be active on game day, you are healthy enough to start. A lot potentially rides on this game for Denver. Pretty clear that the brass view Brock as giving them the best chance to win.

This is your version of Brady supplanting Bledsoe. Do you have a Ron Borges to get all outraged about it?

Don't worry about the Raiders, they will be fine, they have a QB, several young pieces, Khalil Mack, 9 draft picks and $90M in cap room.

Your $46M number comes from cutting Manning and Clady, but keeping Ware, right? I think they will wind up cutting all three. I am stunned you would want Wolfe over Jackson, who appears to me to be a better player and isn't in the SA program like Wolfe. Also, I am surprised that you would upgrade the interior line, rather than the tackles. Sambrailo will be back next year, but Ryan Harris is also a FA, and you have cut Clady already. I think they are going to have to re-visit the Joe Thomas trade or chase one of the FA options. If they do upgrade the tackles like they need to, they are going to wind up cutting Ware to make the cap work. I think Shane Ray was drafted just to give them that flexibility, so Elway at least has a plan there.

Not sure how where the Raiders play impacts their record. Long term it is probably better for the franchise to be in LA or somewhere like it for financial reasons, but do for the next few years Derek Carr can throw TDs as easily in Oakland as he can in LA, and the massive cap space they have can be spent either place.

Its obviously way too early, but I can see them as the team to beat in the division as soon as next year

Very glad Manning played because he will start and lose to Pittsburgh. Despite what the media will say, Denver is better without Manning. Just too bad he didn't throw a duck pick today.

They benched their RT, who has been getting killed the last few weeks, when they brought Peyton in. It seemed like Peyton had a lot more time, and Brock got a little unlucky.

Denver's gonna get Cincy. We'll see how that goes. This is a weird season... Have there ever been worse looking 1-2 seeds in the AFC in recent memory? Denver's QB situation is, uh, fluid, and the Pats O-Line looks like that of a 6-10 team. The conference is wide open.

How is Denver going to play the 3 seed? You mean after Cincy beats us?

How? I thought the #2 gets the highest seed?
