In the I'm starting to lose faith in Bates dept: Michigan interim AD stepping down, Bates will be considered but one huge roadblock

Company leading search has the one and greasy Gene DiFlippo as a principal, watch the bitter little asshole sink Bates

It's guaranteed right?

Bates is the embodiment of mediocre. He hasn't done anything meaningful facilities-wise, nor football schedule-wise at BC but he also hasn't blundered with a Spaz hire yet (although the jury is still out on the Dazzler). If Bates were to miraculously get the Michigan job is there really a chance BC would hire someone who could do better?

Leahy is still in charge there and I think it's pretty obvious how he feels about Athletics. Even the best AD candidate isn't going to have the juice to get the budget he/she needs to get all of the facility upgrades BC requires to seriously compete in the ACC.

I want Bates to get the Michigan job so he isn't at BC but I know that the next AD isn't going to be leaps and bounds better, it's just the reality of the position with the power structure in place.

Umass is fine if they replace the Wagners and U Maines of the world and there's no other MAC on the schedule. Should be the weakest or next to weakest opponent. Problem is, they're not.

9 TD / 14 INT

He'll fit right in. Entering his 4th season and Daz still can't recruit a QB worth a shit.

I would assume he lost his starting job and wants a chance to play and since the BC O is so bad he figures he'll get that chance.
Seems pretty simple no?

Yeah - BC is actually well-positioned for these kinds of additions. Our incumbents are terrible and it's still a "name" school so if you do well, you'll get exposure.

Honestly, could care less. As long as Daz is running the show, we could have the 1985 Bears defense and it wouldn't matter.

What a weird week.

Patrick Towles was an absolute shocker. Honestly, someone did a poor job advising the kid. He has a set of NFL physical tools. He really needs to go somewhere where he could get a decent coach and a decent system. Look at Jeff Driskell dropped down to mid major at a school with a quality offensive plan. Went from a trainwreck college player to a likely mid round NFL pick. I wish the kid well, but BC has the least passing yards of any p5 conference school during the Daz era. I doubt they are suddenly going to let Towles throw for 3500 yards next year. I actually hate 5th year free agency, but it has been the only thing Daz has done well in his BC years, without it he'd already be long gone. Now he is going to try to save his job with it.

Now Brown leaves. Good luck to him. He deserves at least one chance to coach in the big time before he walks away. He did a great job at BC, and had to watch the village idiot coach the other side of the ball, so that had to be a frustrating experience

One last post mortem. TCU played 30 freshmen/redshirt freshmen in an 11 win season. Didn't hear any excuses. BC was top heavy in youth and that's all you heard. Tells you all you need to know about Daz as a coach as well as a recruiter quite frankly.

Looks like BC has hired Jim Ried, Iowa LB coach, as its new DC.
He was on the staff with Henning at BC in the mid 90's for a year (DC then) . Former HC at UMass , Richmond and VMI back in the day and spent some time in the NFL as a position coach. Not sure what kind of schemes he runs these days. I know that Bill McGovern (another BC retread and former LB coach with Philly) was also in the DC mix at one point. Reid, I think, is a safe hire. My concern is how the offense will mature and improve from this last season. No where to go but up but this program is still in the crap house and has a long way to go.

Word is that he likes to run a 4-3 scheme with heavy blitzing so appears to be an aggressive DC similar to Brown.

Blaudschan is reporting that Addazio is also speaking to former Virginia Tech OC Scot Loeffler about the BC OC position. Given that Blaudschan broke the Reid story he may actually have some reliable sources for a change.

Can't say I disagree with this decision. Even a blind squirrel catches nut now and then.

I think playing in Fenway is a once every 5 year event and it should be for a particular game with a particular opponent. It might be a decent venue for the UMass games or the Holy Cross exhibitions in a few years, or maybe a game against the service academies or some other "hook" opponent, but not against league opponents and I wouldn't move a home game against a team that will put fans in the stadium ( a UConn game will put 40K+ in Alumni solely because of the proximity of the schools and alumni bases). I also wouldn't make it an annual event. Much like the Winter Classic, if you allow the venue to host games too often, as BB King would say,...."The thrill is gone".
