Yeah, but that doesn't matter.

He's a starter because KC voted him in.  Thankfully, Gordon's not the worst player ever to be elected -- he's not elite offensively or defensively, but he's fine at both.
I think a lot of people were shocked at how slow he is when he made that not mad dash around to third base when the Giants kicked it around in the ninth inning of game 7 last year. Aoki or Cain probably would have scored on it. He must get great jumps on balls in the outfield.

This would've been crazy to ask just a few weeks ago but does Buchholz get some consideration?  He's top 10 in the AL in several categories and while a few other guys have better numbers overall he's been one of the best in baseball over the last month or so.

Don't they still have to vote in/select one rep from every team to the ASG? If so, who goes for the Sox? I'd have said Pedroia before his injury. But Buchholz still may still receive consideration.

Reserves are announced tonight.  Somebody from the Sox is going to be on the roster.  My guess is Bogaerts and Buchholz are both going to be in.

Just a reminder about the four-tier process for filling out these rosters:

Step 1: Fan vote for starters
Step 2: Players and managers vote on reserves and pitchers
Step 3: Team managers ensure that each team is represented
Step 4: Managers make final selections

Steps 2-3 limit what Yost and Bochy can do. They might end up with but 2-4 unencumbered selections.

Glass half empty, man, Red Sox fan voters showed up NOT this year. One guy, Bogaerts in the top 5. Generally, long time all stars like Pedey and Ortiz place based on past years. Not that Ortiz  should go, and Pedey's hurt.

With Bogaerts pretty certain to get in, I'm thinking Clay just misses the cut -- but he's likely the first to get added when another pitcher inevitably drops out.

I'm assuming Sale, Price, Keuchel, Gray, Felix, Archer and Gallardo are in, plus some mix of RPs (Britton/Perkins/Betances?), and then if it comes down to Buchholz vs Chris Young, Yost is going to pick his guy.

Agree about X (who may eventually be there when it all shakes out), but I don't think I've been more pleased by a Red Sox all-star team rep since Okajima

where the darn libs live

This is where we ended up.  I made a mistake by only going with 32 players (the rosters are 34 + Final Vote, and that's my bad).

But that said, I think I did okay.  I have to say, I'm a little shocked but happy that Holt made it.  He was someone I really wanted to include but never really found a way since I really assumed that X would be on the roster.  The guys who really shocked me were relievers -- Boxberger, O'Day, Melancon -- and putting LeMahieu over Votto (although if Bochy starts Bryant or Arenado at DH that will make that decision a lot more logical).  In my opinion, the biggest snubs are Kershaw and Kluber.  Both of them have a bad W-L record, but Kluber's been the best pitcher in the AL not named Chris for most of the season, and Kershaw's simply the best on the planet at pitching.  That Kluber's not even on the Extra Man vote is kind of a joke.

fwiw, LeMahieu was a players' selection, so Bochy was hamstrung there

Oh, but you're missing Yasmani Grandal and Ryan Braun on the NL bench.

And likely several that we don't know about

The forecast for tonight calls for a 50% chance of rain.  What happens if the game that counts is rained out?

The World Series will be played in Omaha, Nebraska.

In reality it'd be played tomorrow night. But it won't get rained out. They'll shorten it if they have to but rain chances drop quickly post 7 p.m.
