Regular season and tournament champs, there's no question they are a 1 and in Raleigh. They'll play Thursday.

About as favorable a draw as you could dream of for a 4 seed. Still don't expect them to reach the 2nd weekend though. But as a team they have a great deal of fight and heart so they may well go on a run

I would like to see Ingram have a good tournament. Sucked that Durant went out so meekly in 2007.

Have to beat Oregon (probably) first, but legit depressed that VCU completely funked up the end of the OK game, they had them. Winner of Duke/Ore would have had winner of a 10/11 game to get to FF.

Ah well, probably all moot when Oregon destroys Duke by 20, but it would have made for a nice week of dreaming. I think OK beats either of those teams.

Above post was before NIU choke. Also was before St Joes tied in 2H with Oregon. I should keep predicting stuff.

ND is going to be an underdog? What about Cuse?

If I had to rank the probabilities of moving on I would say
1) UNC
2) UVA
3) ND
4) Cuse
5) Miami
6) Duke

I could see 4 getting there

Right now the lines are (via 5dimes)
UNC -5.5
Virginia -5
Notre Dame -1
Duke +2
Miami +4.5
Syracuse +4.5

So 3 are favored, but none of those are very big spreads so I wouldn't be surprised by anywhere between 2 and 5 teams making the elite 8.

Surprised that Duke is only 4th on that list. Miami is a very good team playing pretty good ball, and Cuse is also peaking at the right time and facing an 11 seed (albeit a very dangerous one).

That Gonzaga team is so woefully underseeded. Their 7 losses this year came by a total of 29 points, with 9 of that coming in one game. Based on SoS, you can't make a case for them being higher than a 6, but they should have been somewhere in that 6-8 range realistically.

Realistically, this Duke team is fucked. I don't see them being able to stand up to Oregon's ball pressure for the full game, just not enough depth or a strong enough true PG.

Crazy thing about the Yale game was how good the D was for most of the first half. They haven't defended like that since pre-Jefferson injury.

Can only imagine how good this conference would be if Duke weren't dragging it down.

You might want to time that one a little differently than when Duke won it al last year and is gonna next year too

So, it turns out that Coach K lied about what he told Dillon Brooks.

What else has he lied about?!

A lot of folks here in North Carolina were annoyed with the ACC tournament being held in D.C., but this ACC-tournament-at-multiple-sites thing is more cumbersome.

This year is shaping up to be a fascinating parallel to 5 years ago.

In 2009, UNC was coming off its second title in 5 years (2005 / 2009), Duke had just had 3 awful years (2007-2009), Duke wasn't getting many great recruits, and all the talk was that UNC was heads and shoulders above Duke, Hansbrough had never lost in Cameron, etc.

And then Duke comes in out of nowhere and wins the title in 2010 with a bunch of upperclassmen, upsetting the narrative.

--

In 2015, Duke was coming off its second title in 6 years (2010 / 2015), UNC had just had a series of 3 season s in which they lost 10+ games, Duke was getting all the great one and done players, UNC was suffering in recruiting from sanction rumors, and all the talk was that Duke was heads and shoulders above UNC, and the head-to-head records validated this assumption.

And then UNC [might] win the title in 2016 with a bunch of upperclassmen, upsetting the narrative.

--

now, it's not exactly apples to apples, since UNC was preaseason #1 this year (which a lot of people scoffed at), but still. the parallels are pretty neat.

Definitely neat. Would also be the 3rd time that one of the schools has followed up a title by the other school with a title of their own (the 09-10 seasons you mention, as well as 1992-93).

One really interesting aspect to me of this UNC team is that they are totally against the current trend in pro ball based on small ball and shooting the 3. UNC is horrible at shooting the 3 and almost always has 3 guys on the court who are 6'9 +. Shows there are more than one ways to skin a cat.

Could be super crazy if we see Duke-UNC-Duke in 2015-2017.

Crazy? I think it would just be run of the mill for The Conference.

Has there ever been a situation where one team won 2 out of 3 years, with the year in between that team's chief rival winning?

'60-'61 was OSU / Cinci / Cinci, so not exactly.

Maybe '96-'98 - Kentucky / Arizona / Kentucky, with Arizona beating KY in the final.

Yeah 96-98 was the closest I found too. Obviously 91-93 was Duke-Duke-UNC (and Duke lost in the finals in 94 to Arkansas)
