So, uh, that Laker locker room is a dumpster fire huh?
Is there no thread about this? I admit to being an NBA looky-loo, but I really want @Blacken thoughts about this whole bizarre situation. I mean....WTF is going on?

Plus, it involves Nick Young and a pop star?

I don't even like hoops, but I'm in on this story.

The Laker story is almost unreal. It's as if they asked how could the make this season any more of an embarrassment?

I just read about this story and don't understand what Russell was thinking. The whole team is a dumpster fire, but do the Lakers make Russell available?

I wouldn't be surprised if they made him available. Cheating goes on all the time in the NBA but you don't air your teammate's dirty laundry. None of those guys can trust him now.

Supposedly it was part of an escalating prank war and someone got hold of it and leaked it. (Though conspiracy theorists say it is promo for her new album which I don't believe.)

Two thoughts:
1 hilarious that both snitching controversies in the NBA have involved the best player on the Lakers at the time.

2 if they trade him they are really stupid. However this is a franchise discussing bringing back Byron Scott.

Kobe Bryant isn't providing strong veteran leadership in that locker room. He's a bad role model.

Or...something. I don't know, this whole story is bizarre and dumb and that franchise thinks Byron Scott is an NBA head coach.

Worth the wait. The minute I heard Nick Young was involved, I knew the whole thing would be clusterfuck of epic proportions.

I agree with this. Teams never do stuff like this, but if I were Hinkie, I'd be sniffing around about an Okafor-Russell trade.

I'd be more surprised if adults like us DID understand what a 20-year old multi-millionaire was thinking.
Adults?

I'm pretty sure children of all ages understand that if you do what Russell allegedly did, you're gonna have no friends.

I heard some blowhard today opining that Scott has told Russell that he needed to mature and was "acting like a 14 year old" at times this season. However, I would wager than the vast majority of 14 year olds know that what Russell did is ... frowned upon. socially, and would make you a pariah.

These were prank challenges designed to one up the other and got out of hand by a bad decision. I don't know many children who have been pampered their entire lives then handed multi-millions of dollars and fame at age 19 so no I doubt any would understand this state of mind.

Don't dance with the champs, Utah. You've got to knock them out. 13-29 FT...?
Dubs win in OT after taking the court 12 hours after getting off the bus. Second night on B-to-B, this one on the road.

That was absolutely the ballsiest win of the Warriors season and had Utah had a little more firepower or hit an acceptable rate of their FTs, they would have beaten the Warriors fairly easily in regulation.

And as regards Russell, I bet he will get traded, especially if Scott returns. While its a hard pill to swallow, based on what I've read, he is pretty screwed in the eyes of any of his returning teammates. I know its unpopular to say here on SoSH (and I mostly agree with it) but imho, chemistry matters in basketball and especially in the Association.

I was working in a high school recently and I had a kid say one of the reasons he hates school is because he refuses (can't) go #2 at school.
I didn't think that was that strange. It wasn't the nicest school, so I figured the bathrooms could be gross, it's not uncommon for people to not want to use public restrooms. That assumption was wrong.
The reason he wouldn't use the bathroom stalls is because if you do, someone will record you. Either trying to spy through the cracks or apparently they will straight up bust through the stall or go over it to live broadcast you going to the bathroom....or at least that's what he told me.

Seeing the Russell story made me think of that conversation.
If you're under 20 (or so) it really is an entirely different world. And at least from my experiences, the adults have no handle on it, in large part because these are situations that are difficult to comprehend because you wouldn't have even imagined them being an issue..

Yeah the Lakers and the Sixers probably both might wish they had reversed selections. I could absolutely see that trade. I think Okafor is better than some think, but for the Sixers they clearly need a creative guard more than a scoring big man and the Lakers have other guard options. I would imagine though the thought of Randle and Okafor together isn't easy to put together either.
Makes a lot of sense for the Sixers (and I think they could even throw in something) but not sure from the Lakers side.

However, I'm unclear what better offer than Okafor is coming for him. He wasn't very good this season bar a short stretch and of course well this whole thing.

I wonder how different the whole Sixers season would have been if the Lakers had taken Okafor as many expected (which of course does mean if they were ever serious about that they thought he could work). The whole Noel vs Okafor mess and spacing disaster goes away. Their play early when they had literally no point guards is likely better. I still think they probably have the worst record in the league, but not by quite so far. But also they look much more like a team with a plan. Simmons or Ingram would fit with a Russell/ Noel but Ingram probably better with Saric.
Russell, Covington/ Stauskas, Ingram, Saric, Noel and Embiid off the bench, that's a pretty fun looking lineup. Not great defensively, esp at the guard spots which is an issue.

If the Sixers get ingram the russell Okafor trade makes plenty of sense for them, and throwing in the thunder or Heat pick maybe if needed. If they get Simmons I'm less clear, still ok but you might prefer a 3 and D kind of guard versus a distributor.

Tronna is on the road at Atlanta, clawing their way back from a big deficit. DeMarre Carroll is finally back at playing strength, so the Raptors are getting better.

The Spurs starters will all be in tonight as they try to defend their home turf against the Warriors. The playoffs start here.

The Wizards squash the Hornets, who now slot into the 6th playoff slot.

Ramon Sessions is standing at Armageddon and battling for our draft probabilities. Wiz 116-108 with 3:16 to go.

Celtics magic number for the 3 slot is now 1. Can't finish worse than a tie. Let's go Suns!

Russell Westbrook had a triple-double by halftime tonight, first one to do that in any game since Kevin Johnson in 1997. That was Westbrook's 18th of the season, tying Magic's highest total as the most anyone's had in a year since Chamberlain in 67/68.

Kobe was asked in his post-game presser if he'd even seen a player with a triple-double in a half, "Oh yeah, plenty of times plenty of times. I've never seen anyone with as many as Russell though."

Oh Kobe

So Rockets, win and they are in
Have to wonder what the organization is rooting for. Win and they lose their pick and get swept by the Warriors. Lose and they get to keep their late lotto pick while they attempt to lure one of the big names in FA.

You also have to wonder what the players really want as well. Are a couple days per diem and maybe $10k playoff share worth being run over 4 straight games and having to be around each other for 10 more days?

Reminds me of this:

http://deadspin.com/5595044/the-john-salley-story-corner-a-new-feature

He says: "It has to be, because this is some bullshit. You guys play an extra two months."

And I was like, holy shit. I didn't even realize it. I was playing an extra two-and-a-half months, for free.

Yup. Would be perfect opponent for Golden State. Could rest and get ready for the real playoffs to start against the Clippers and Spurs.

I love Paul Pierce but watching him play for the Clippers is maybe the most painful experience of my NBA watching life.

What an absolute amazing night of NBA hoops from the C's comeback (that third quarter! ) to the Warriors to Kobe scoring 60 and leading his team to victory for the last time. The NBA, it really is fantastic.
