All teasing aside, you're right. There were several teams that played very good footy in the Championship this season. I mean, I saw Bristol City play scintillating football at times. Norwich was fun as hell to watch 2 years ago.

It's a remarkably underrated league, especially in the top half. I hope I get the opportunity to miss it.

Exactly. There are so many teams and so many games and really cool storylines in the Championship. The football is good, particularly at the top of that table, and I want to see more of it. When Norwich were in the Championship 2 years ago it was insane enough following their run via BBC and Youtube highlights. I'd love to see more of the league live.

If I remember correctly, didn't you adopt Villa as your Premier League team to follow the last time the Canaries were down?

Ouch...

Just watched the first 60 minutes of the Hull/Derby game- was out and about.

@tulse_luper wtf was Bruce doing? That game screamed for some casual, normal footy, not a prevent 4-5-1 with little to no pressure. I presume that's not what you usually see?
They just shat it. Caught between two (exceptionally faecal) stools. For a while I thought I might experience a shadow of what it was like to be a Yankee fan in 2004. Thank Odin I did not.

I have no idea what will happen in the final, but make the good guys slight favourites.

In 2008 I vomited in my elderly mother's car on the way back home, which cost me about a week's wages for a valet and was one of the more embarrassing moments of my adult life. I would settle for a similar outcome this go round.

Allan McGregor most likely out for the final. Bruce says everyone else good to go. Wednesday is as healthy as a squad can be this time of year.

I'm fascinated to watch this match- Bruce is generally a great game planner, and he's got the more physical side (and the faster side I think). Carvalhal is also quite good at the tactical game (one of the best I've seen at HT adjustments) and I think he has the more skilled side. Set pieces and corners are going to be huge for Hull, they should be a threat on every one.

It's a great move.

Leicester doesn't do what they did this year without the work Pearson put into the club over the previous 7ish seasons. If Derby can hang onto most of their players (and invest the loot they get from a guy like Hughes), I like them a lot to go up.

1. Hire Nigel Pearson
2. Get promoted
3. Take a tour of Thailand, fire Nigel Pearson
4. ...
5. Win the league

It's all so simple if you can just figure out #4!

Hutchinson in for Lopez. I'd expect stouter D in the middle and an attack that comes from the wings and overlapping FBs

Wednesday a bit lucky not to have a penalty and even maybe a man off for DOGSO. Hull on the front foot now, though.

Sean Dyche doing pitch side punditry for Sky. I swear the guy eats sandpaper for breakfast. He has the most gravelly voice in football, and he's barely 40.

Hull with a great counter-attack featuring the two fullbacks, Robertson gets teed up with a great cross...and he skies it over the goal.

This has the feel of a game where Wednesday end up scoring the winner off a crazy double-deflection, leaving Hull to rue all of their missed opportunities.

What a shot from Diame for the breakthrough.

Westwood actually got a fingertip to it, but the pace and placement was too much to keep out.

Hull look really well organised. Wednesday look a bit flat and out of ideas. They need some inspiration. Hull look like they're more comfortable with the occasion. Or maybe just a bad day at the office for a few of the Wednesday players.

Wednesday's lines have looked all wrong all day. The need to poach a set piece quick or it's 17 years on the trot.

Sorry that Wednesday couldn't break through. Silver lining: we're gonna to have a hell of a Championship thread next season.

Plymouth looked much better than AFC Wimbledon during the semifinals, and the first 10 minute haven't changed my opinion, Plymouth looks much more threatening. Plymouth also have a 2:1 advantage in the stands. edit- read earlier in the week Plymouth sold 33,000 tix and AFCW sold 16,000

Also, AFCW announced they aren't offering Akinfenwa a new contract, so he's leaving on a free. A few years back he said he'd be interested in MLS but I don't think he's good enough. I could see an NASL club checking him out though

Wimbledon looks like they have better technique on winning the ball, but their offense seems to consist of route 1 balls up to an outnumbered forward. It's almost worked once or twice, but probably not the best strategy.

Plymouth hasn't really impressed me, other than Wylde. Nobody's getting much of a possession together to build anything up.

Well, if you've ever wondered what would happen if a normal-sized human went full-steam at an NFL defensive lineman, just take a look at that shitty charge by Sawyer(?) on Akinfenwa. Throws himself over AA going for a ball, and he ends up on the ground for 5 minutes and almost carted off the field. AA is totally unaffected.

I'd pay to see him in MLS, that's for sure.

That was a fun match, AFC Wimbeldon is the shit, and Akinfenwa might be my favorite soccer player.

the previous four seasons AFC Wimbledon finished 16th, 20th, 20th, and 15th. Sneaked into the playoffs in 7th place after a great second half, and then won it first try. 6 promotions in 14 seasons.

Announcer said Plymouth had over 40,000 fans there. Their manager said the whole team is out of contract. They were almost desolved a few years ago so it's big for them. They have massive support.

I don't know the in's and out of every player in every league. Is Lyle Taylor considered a future BPL talent? because he seemed to be head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch today.

Never seem him play, but his resume indicates that he's a 26 year old journeyman who had his best season this year -- 22 goals in League Two. Last year he wasn't particularly successful in League One with Scunthorpe or in the SPL on loan with Partick Thistle.

This talk should go in the 22 Layer Pyramid thread, but since the game discussion ended up here, I'll post it here.

AFC Wimbledon are currently in a playoff spot in League Two. It would be hilarious if MK Dons were relegated to League One the same season Wimbledon were promoted into it.
I made that post a month and a half ago, and now it's happened.

14 years ago today, some guys met in a pub to discuss starting a club to replace Wimbledon FC, which had announced they would be relocating to Milton Keynes. On that day Wimbledon FC were in the second division and had been in the Premier League 2 years earlier. The new AFC Wimbledon would hold tryouts soon after and began play in the 9th level of the pyramid. A few months from now, those 2 clubs will be competing against each other in the same league. What a story.

MK Dons gave up their claim to Wimbledon FC's history in 2007, but they really need to drop the Dons portion of the team name. There is only one Dons, and it's not them.

MK and AFC Wimbledon have played 3 times in cups, with all 3 games taking place at stadium mk (what a perfectly stupid name for a ground, but I guess it fits them). MK won the first two matches 2-1 and 3-1, but the most recent one went to AFC Wimbledon 3-2.

Congrats to @tulse_luper and any other Hull fans or Wednesday haters. That was a huge game and Hull showed they were clearly the better team on the field. After the first 1/2 hour or so, Wednesday had no answers for the Hull back line and midfield and barely threatened. Absolutely world class strike from Diabe, and a well deserved victory for City.

Disappointing end to a very enjoyable season. You just hate to see 7-8 no shows in a game of that magnitude. Keiron Westwood was man of the match for me- Martin O'Neill is an idiot if Westy isn't Ireland's starter in the Euros...he's been leaving him off though.

Amazing support from Wednesday fans- there's enough video and pictures going around to showcase it. This isn't to shit on Hull fans (who have some Wembley Fatigue as well as ownership fatigue), but the crowd difference was stark.

Felt we could have sold almost the whole thing. Wednesday fans were in full voice long after the game, singing and cheering for the squad. As sad as I was, it was another reminder that even though I fucked up when I picked my club, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Next year is huge, but that's for another thread. I'll start it up at some point soon. Hopefully we get some more action this season now that more people are invested and the ways to stay caught up are some much more numerous.

And I specifically said to Keep Your Other Crappy Leagues Out Of Here. ;)
