Miguel at @patscap updates Pats cap info:

https://twitter.com/patscap/status/499638751703089153

http://www.nflplayers.com/cap shows @Patriots w/ $6,286,532 in cap space so Hartsock+Maneri appeared to be counting 570K against cap, as expected
The $6,286,532 cap space number is before the impact of yesterday's trades.

Hope this doesn't come to pass.  Drafting two safeties high the last two years and then ending up with Chung back starting at safety would be an unfortunate fly in the ointment for what's shaping up to be a pretty good defense.  Know he might fit in better with what they are doing now given personnel, but would still be disappointing IMO

Michael Giardi ‏@MikeGiardi 4h
Appears Chung has moved ahead of Duron Harmon at the safety spot opp McCourty. Should be noted however there are a lot of moving parts daily

Thank god I don't put much stock in what Giardi thinks/tweets of. I'm taking that tweet with a barrel of salt.

Amendola catches a pass while holding onto 3 other footballs, kicks it, then catches it again at the 1m42s mark: (thanks to @FieldYates):

Yates doing yeoman's work. Recently signed TE Terrence Miller waived:

@FieldYates To consummate the Jerel Worthy trade w/Packers, Patriots needed to clear a roster spot. Per source, they waived/injured TE Terrence Miller.

Having watched Chung start for the Eagles last year and fully come to appreciate the negative views from you guys en mass about him, I'm pretty blown away that him starting is even vaguely plausible without a lot of injuries.

Wondering / hoping that Mayo has some sort of personal thing going on that is forcing him to be gone... or is just getting a rest week. But a whole rest week seems unlikely.

This is probably totally wishcasting, but is it possible that given the other talent in the secondary - Revis, Browner, Ryan, McCourty - that Chung's skills are better put to use than they were back in 2009-2012? If he doesn't have to worry about defending the deep part of the field, maybe that plays to his strengths?

Yeah, I'm a total homer. And I've always wanted Chung to be awesome, from the moment they drafted him.

It could be one of 4 things with Mayo.
1. Personal issue time away from the team
2. Major injury, Mayo is gone for the year
3. Moderate injury, Mayo is out for some time but not headed to IR
4. Minor injury, no reason for a vet to practice in the rain yesterday, or be in the walk thru today if he won't play tomorrow

In the preseason they are generally quick to IR guys that obviously should go to IR.  So it's good news that he is not already there.  If it were a minor injury I would think that we'd see him on the field but no practicing right?  So that leaves #1 and #3.  I said yesterday that as good as the Pats are at keeping things tight to the chest, significant injuries have a way of finding their way to the press, especially within a few days time.  The radio silence on this makes me more opptimistic in a way.

I'm betting on the personal issue side. Unusual to be this quiet regarding a PS injury.

It may be an optimistic view of things, but it also may not be wrong.  I've learned on this board that the Pats like to play a lot of Cover 1 with McCourty and a lot of Cover 3.  Either one of those seems to limit Chung's inability to be a rangey safety.

Christopher Price of WEEI.com told me that there hasn't been any plays during camp in which Mayo got hurt on.  I have to think it is a personal/family matter.  The team would have commented on it by now if it was injury-related.  This point alone leads me to believe it's something personal that Jerod is dealing with.

Plus no corresponding move to counter any injury -- I'd think they'd have announced the injury and instead of bolstering DE depth, they'll bring in LB bodies instead.

At this point, I think it either has to be something personal, or some sort of injury that puts him questionable for week 1. As no reporter seems to have noticed anything, I'm hoping that's a sign that it's a personal issue.

They opened a roster spot by cutting Hartsock.  I am firmly in the, this is likely a personal thing camp, but my confidence will be shook if they fill that roster spot with a linebacker.

They have 10 other LBs on the roster, so they don't need bodies to get through the preseason. DT is a different story - with Siliga and Jones nicked up and Wilfork, Easley, and Kelly returning from injury, they needed a couple more dudes (of course Worthy doesn't help in that respect).

This is why I can't stand preseason and training camp. There's no real payoff as a fan outside of getting excited for real football, and 90% of the news you get throughout the course of it is injury-related. It's like dodging landmines.

IF ONLY REPORTERS AT THE CAMP COULD ASK WHY MAYO ISN'T AVAILABLE

I was at practice on Monday and he was a full participant. At end of practice he and some other players were playing around with their kids. He looked completely fine on Monday.

Sean's answer plus this answer by Reiss from his chat today is reassuring:

Hey mike there were reports recently that white was getting reps with the first teamers, does that mean anything significant? Also do you know what's keeping mayo from practice? Thanks
Mike

Don't know for sure on Mayo, but my educated guess is that it's more of a personal matter than injury.

There's all these CIA-like restrictions on what reporters can report from training camp, so when Reiss says "educated guess" it sure seems like code for "this isn't a guess, I know but can't say."

In this installment of "Dave's Internet Creepiness," I spent 20 minutes looking up Mayo's relatives on various social media. His wife appears to be very pregnant per her Instagram (http://instagram.com/mrsmayo51). So hopefully it's good news.

Nothing serious.  Likely won't play tomorrow, but nothing to be concerned about.

My source is not inside the Pats org specifically, but he knows things.

Stork returning to practice is the best news from this offense the last few weeks. I have high hopes for him.

So basically everyone of significance on the entire roster is at practice and wearing pads.  This pretty much never happens.  Knocking on wood.

BB says there won't be much game planning going into this next game against Carolina.  Given that Carolina played just last night, I don't think we'll see the usual dress rehearsal type of game that the 3rd game usually brings at least from both teams.  Given the short turnaround, Cam Newton should be expected to not get a lot of snaps coming off the surgery he had in the offseason.   Most of their starters will not play as long as the Pats will.  I'm not so sure we can take much out of this Friday even though the starters will play most likely until halftime.

Read Vollmer and Kelly were not spotted at the start of practice.
