Skrub is sad that LondonSox didn't start a new thread.

The only question I have about these joint practices is how long it will take Cary Williams to start a fight and get sent home. Again.

With the Eagles coming to town I'm going to engage this thread, so if you guys want to chat or have any questions/ thoughts around Eagles players I'm very happy to discuss etc.

I'll be very interested to see how the newer defensive backs do, Jenkins (has looked great in camp), Corroll (likewise) and Boykin who if you don't know him is the best slot corner in the league for me (and maybe best gunner too).

I'll be interested to see how Matthews does, he's been the talk of camp so far but wasn't so great in pre season game 1.

I'll be interested to see who can generate a rush if anyone (I think Curry is a monster but bad scheme fit and only plays passing downs).

Sanchez (!) has looked good in camp and appears to be locking down the back up QB spot.

Chip and Bill the bromance resumes.
What do you think about reserve G Michael Bamiro?  He's got huge potential IMO.  6'7" and over 360 lbs but can move very well.  Was a practice squad guy last year but got over $250,000 to sign.

I hope the Pats players and coaches do their best to utterly ignore this guy.

Lee Schechter

Aaron Dobson and Dominique Easley are in full pads. Both returned to practice yesterday.

Looking forward to some reports on how they look.

They both put their uniform on correctly and I find the color scheme marvelous.

Unless the no contact jersey only comes out when it's time to scrimmage it looks like Gronk is full go today. Dobson looks fine in early wr drills but doesn't get any reps in the 1 on 1s. Amendola absolutely roasting the eagles in that drill.

A somewhat under reported storyline in camp (at least until recently) has been Amendola's rapport with Brady and performance in practice.

Was the Amendola we saw in 2013 training camp and Week 1 vs. Buffalo just limited by injury?

The Amendola we saw up until the end of the Buffalo game was phenomenal. He was never the same after that - couldn't cut right or run his routes like he wanted to. I think a lot of fans simply decided that "he wasn't that good," which really isn't the case. He could be a bit like the rookies in that assuming he's on the field he'll look a lot better his second year in the system then the first.

Health is the one thing that has held DA back from being a big-time WR.

One news item that hasn't been brought up about today's practice: According to numerous Twitter reports, Jerod Mayo is not practicing.  I really hope this is a maintenance day.

Amendola looked great in camp in 2103. I think Simms reported that he was telling the rookies, "if you don't get it right, I'm just going to throw it to Danny." It was only after his injury that Brady put the rest of the wheels on an Edelman binkywagon.

Seriously, go watch highlights from week 1 vs. Buffalo last year. He was outstanding.

And this may be forgotten, but he was pretty big in the playoff game vs Indy too - only 3 catches but for 77.

Amendola looked to me like a guy who had trouble getting open on quick routes (which Edelman excels at), but who was very good in finding soft spots in the defense 10-15 yards down the field. I recall a lot of completions to him wide open down the middle. Don't know how injuries affected his quickness and release off the line, but that's the impression I got last year.

He was playing with a damaged groin all season which had to affect his ability to change direction which is pretty critical on those quick routes.  I'm curious to see what he would look like in this offense if he was 100%, but if history is any indication the chances of that happening are pretty low.

Few more thoughts:

-Lafell looked pretty good, catching two and drawing a penalty on the last drive of Brady 11 on 11s
-Defense (obviously without Mayo) really struggled against the quick Philly rbs. Maclin beat revis for a long td but I was relatively impressed with the starting secondary, which appears to be Revis-Ryan-Harmon-McCourty-Browner.
-in the "awesome things we're probably not seeing in a game" file, Ryan Allen hit Wendell for a TD on what was either a botched snap or a fake FG

Yeah he was probably the MVP of that Buffalo game.  Absolutely monster catch on 3rd down on the game winning drive and gutted through injury to do it.

Its absolutely fair to wonder if he can ever stay healthy for a full season, but the guy is a major league talent when he's right.

Worthy, a second-round pick in 2012, enters his third season, but after a second year that was essentially a washout. Rehab from a knee injury suffered in Week 17 of 2012 limited Worthy to a pair of cameo appearances last season, and he sat out all of OTAs and minicamp this spring as well. He has catching up to do and rust to knock off.

Not sure what to make of this. Why acquire somebody who isn't healthy when you have so many other question marks? Easley, Siliga, and Jones all have injury issues and Worthy only adds to the list.

Bass, maybe. Worthy already ripped up a knee. Although his hands are reportedly intact, so maybe Siliga gets one?

He was oddly classy today, even complimented the Pats organization no less.

I will bump the Eagles thread I made but it hadn't been getting much traffic.

I'm trying to project the Eagles offense this year and would love to hear your thoughts.

On positive side, they seemed to get better as the year went on last year and they handed the job over to Foles.  However, now all opposing coaches have had an off-season to digest and plan for Kelly's offense, they lost their best receiver in Jackson and there is just no way that Foles can have that TD to INT rate again.  My take is that Kelly is a good coach and will keep the team above average on offense, but I just dont see how they could be a top 5 team in scoring again this year.

Well one thing to remember is a good chunk of the season had Vick, who couldn't handle the offense imo, and Barkley started one game and finished another.
Getting Foles in as the starter and all the reps, and Kelly all the time will make him better, and overall the QB position on the season, barring injury, will be better than 2013. So there's that. It's unlikely he is as lucky re interceptions and passer rating etc as he was last year, where he set records, but overall the hope is he leaves less on the table, even if his td/ int ratio etc falls.

The RBs look BETTER than last year, Sproles is a valuable weapon.

Of course JAckson is a big loss as a WR, but Maclin is back, and Matthews is likely a huge upgrade over the corpse of Avant. There's also Huff and there is an expectation for Ertz to take a big step forward.

The oline is aging and there are question here. But unless Kelly's scheme is countered surprisingly well by the league I don't think they will drop much. They ahve a better QB today than this time last year, and better RB, WR is deeper though lost the star and TE play is potentially better too. I think the O will be top 5-10 depending on injuries etc.

The questions are still on the D side. Ryans is getting older, and the pass rush is a bit of a mess/ question. The secondary is a lot better with Jenkins there, and Carroll is pushing to star, and makes the team better and deeper.

Sanchez.

I know I'm as surprised as you, but by all reports looked good again yesterday, and only Foles and he got snaps, so it sure looks like he's the backup.

I don't see him making the team, and he's questionable to even make the practice squad.
He sounds raw, i mean RAW. I've heard surprisingly little about him given his size etc. The last roster projection didn't even mention him as a maybe.
It's not helped by the Lane Johnson suspension, they need guys who can play immediately.

The back up line got a lot of snaps vs the bears and appears to be the 2nd unit as
Gardner, Tolbin, Molk and Kelly with Babre starting for Johnson to open the season, but first depth in case of injury.
He could make the practice squad for sure.

Finally a question for you guys.
The comments I'm reading suggest that the Eagles look a lot better than last year.
Last year it was men vs boys. Brady just shredding the D - hardly missed a throw.
This year the offense looks a bit better, as more settled, but the def looked at least in the same league if not the same class as the Pats.
Basically the blogs are encouraged that the competition looks better this year vs last.

Agree or disagree?

His next tweet:

Should point out: I am not under the impression that Darrelle Revis is giving anywhere near 100 pct in these drills. Has little to prove.

Oh, and then, after apparently wanting to make a big deal of "toasting" Revis, the football gods responded:

Jeff McLane @Jeff_McLane  ·  4m

Maclin is still off to the side. Standing alone.

Jeff McLane @Jeff_McLane  ·  6m

Maclin is having a confab with trainer Chris Peduzzi.

Jeff McLane @Jeff_McLane  ·  7m

Maclin just took himself out. Cursing to himself on the sideline. Not sure why. Stay tuned.

I wouldn't read too much into Mayo missing two straight days.  It could be something simple that needed a day of rest yesterday and wasn't worth exposing him to a wet field today.  This is one of those where if it was serious I feel like we'd already know more.

Bedard tweeted today at 11:04 AM that week one might be stretch for Gronk based on yesterday...noticeably favoring the knee, limping as he ran.

I haven't seen anything else that specific or negative on Gronk during training camp and hope he's overreacting or misreading the tea leaves.

I would have to believe that if Gronk was limping at all in the pre-camp workouts, he would have been on the PUP to start camp.  That didn't happen, and this is Bedard, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt right now.  Could just be soreness and stiffness.
