Either Garcia's gone after some heckler in the gallery. Or went for a piss. the BBC jury is out. Strange stuff.

Ahh, it was a call of nature.

I replayed that and turned the volume up. Sounded like a cough. He may have said something in a muffled tone though. Rory heard it.

Hmm, hasn't hit the ESPN broadcast yet.

Yea they were saying that there's been a repeat heckler crying out when he's about to play. The police just ejected someone, then Rory pointed out some other fool. Not usual for golf, to have such hoodrat behaviour.

At this point I'm just pulling for Fowler to beat Sergio.

I am shocked Rory keeps picking the driver, but there are days where that's your most confident swing, been that way for him all week. I'm guessing we see 3 wood on 17, driver on 18.

Edit: And, I'd be wrong. Iron on 17

I don't like the Dustin Johnson beard, it makes me more cognisant of his nose, he has an ungamely nose, i'd never noticed before the beard.

I didn't notice that, but I thought Rickie's facial hair did him more harm than good, given the way he dresses and his younger fanbase.

it's hard to know what to do when you have such a pretty face, but such bushy eyebrows. I think it's gonna take him a few years to work it out. But he has time.

Respect to Sergio and Fowler. Both played well enough to win. But Rory just played that much better. Those two eagles on 16 and 18 yesterday were humongous. The difference.

Pleased for Garcia, he didn't really have a meltdown...this'll give him confidence that he has a major in him.

He certainly has it in him. But I bet it doesn't happen. Those demons would always come back.

Fowler's had as good a major championship season as one could have. Could've won both Open's if not for Kaymer and Rory.

Unless he decides, if he still can't win a major in the next 2 - 3 years that any publicity is better than no publicity and he lets himself have a relapse.

That was a really good final round. The game's in good shape with Rory and Fowler leading the pack of young golfers.
I think it would be a good thing for golf if he wins a Masters soon and completes the career grand slam. Golf fans like to have a couple or three top guns to look forward to watching (not that he isn't already a standout).

Would have loved to have seen Fowler make a little more of a run, one or two more drives in the fairway from him and this could have been an epic showdown, but I'm happy to see Rory win again.  He sure is fun to watch when he is playing well.

Rory does just come across as such a likable kid. We are in the middle of a great era for golf, an yeah it does look like it will get better and better moving forward

He got booed during the trophy presentation because he mentioned he was a Man United fan while trying to thank the Liverpool fans for supporting him. Classic on both sides.

Great week for Rory, and like a bunch of you have said, I like where the game is headed with Rory, Fowler, Spieth, etc. all playing well.  Even guys like the Johnson's, Keegan, Kuchar, etc., there is some serious, serious young talent out there every week.

That said, I'm starting to get more and more depressed by the length these guys have.  I realize it's the British, and there's wind and the ball bounces and rolls like a super ball in some spots, but watching Rory get up there swing after swing, pound a driver 340-360 is beyond humbling and drives me nuts that no matter how much I play, I'll just never "get it."  I was paying really close attention, as I usually do, to club selection and hearing them say "Rory has 220 yards in, and I wouldn't expect him to hit more than an 8 iron" makes me want to take my clubs and throw them in a lake.  They are so fucking long, so precise and then they couple that with the ability to do things with wedges that don't seem scientifically possible and they make like 70% of their putts inside of 10 feet and....Uggh, I'm sad again.

Its a different game.  They don't play golf.

A friend of mine was having lunch with Tom Weiskopf recently. TW was one of the more recognized power hitters back in the 70's,  he said that 265 yards was a long drive for him,  and that was with a tail wind at the British Open. Times have changed.

What is interesting is that despsite the infusion of the younger professional players coming through, the game of golf is far less popular than a decade ago. Millions are leaving the game due to age, health issues etc. However, they are not being replaced with the same numbers at the generational level. Rounds being played are down, record numbers of courses are closing, TV viewership is down, golf advertizing revenue is down. I know quite a few people involved in the industry at various levels and this appears to be the common fear.

Well, yeah. Weiskopf was hitting persimmon, was probably out in a pub until 2 AM the night before and likely never stepped foot in a gym.
Truth, Weiskopf was a notorious drinker.

I've had the opportunity a few times to play with hickory clubs.  My best drives with those go about 190-200 yards, even using modern balls.  Probably 50-60 yards less than a modern driver...and you also have to hit exactly on the sweet spot of the old clubs to get the ball to go anywhere.  Even the persimmon drivers of the 70s and 80s were only about 180-200cc, which is smaller than most 3-woods now.

Modern tour pros are basically playing with super-tuned aluminum bats hitting golf balls that go 20% further than the wound balls of a generation ago.

This reminded me of Jack Nicklaus.  In 1963, when he was 23 and prior to winning his first PGA Championship, he won a long drive competition with a official drive of 341 yards, 17 inches.  This was with a persimmon driver and (I'm assuming) a balata ball.  Imagine what he could have done with today's equipment.
