Its not for everyone, but the thing I always liked about my clubfitter was he never told me what I was hitting or let me look at the back of the club.  When you do go get fitted, if they don't do this, ask them to not tell you what club your hitting.  Just place it down and hit the ball.  You may be surprised which ones catch your eye.

Anyone have some recommendations for golf in the Sebago Lakes region.  I will be spending next week on Crescent Lake and am looking to play 3-4 places.

It wasnt amazing but naples country club ran a golfnow deal for 20 bucks for 18 w a cart for the 7am time slot. It was hilly w some challenging holes and the back 9 was in good shape. Front 9 gets a lot more play

Fwiw me and my friend were the first two out at 645 and were having a beer back at the cottage by 10am

What are your guys thoughts in general on the game of golf? Im very much into it, as obv anyone posting here would be, am 30, yet most of my friends either dont play or play 2-3x a year.

Do you see the downward trend continuing or is this something my generation will pick up as they get a little more set in thier careers?

a little way up 302 from Sebago, but Bridgton Highlands wasn't a bad track when I last played there

I agree. I have a group of about 5-8 friends who all play, most of us at least once a week. I have extended groups of friends/acquaintances that all play too, plus family members as well. About 6 years ago only me my dad and my brother played regularly, now having a big group of friends all playing makes it so much more enjoyable.

I can see it definitely trending down overall, but I've never played more in my life.

I, for one, am rather enjoying the slight decline in the game's popularity. I can basically get a tee time at any time i want on just about any course i choose. The "I play once a year, drunk a-hole" ratio is way down, so rounds play quicker and are more enjoyable, which is nice. Courses have also resorted to groupons, etc. so you can get some deep discounts on rounds.

To me that head looks like it was powder coated. You won't get that finish with a torch. At best you will get "burnt iron" color which can be pretty but is definitely not that color. Also, blueing the metal with a torch ( in gunsmithing circles it is referred as " heat bluing") will not give you a uniform color. For that you need a special furnace with a precise temperature control. Another option would be "cold bluing" which is a form of chemical etching. It's a technique that is popular with amateur gunsmiths and is pretty easy to do but it will give you a dark blue finish. A fourth option is to paint the head with a baking lacquer paint ( also popular with gun owners) which will also give you a very durable finish but colors are limited. Anyway, just a few more options for you.

I tried 4 courses today to get out as a single in the greater Denver area and not a single one had a slot between 10:30 and 2:00 PM.  I sure hope this popularity decline hits Denver soon.

I am Boston area, and going to take the advice above about re-working my swing completely and taking lessons.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good pro at basically starting over with someone? I don't need tweaks, I need to tear the building down and re-build with someone who can help me break bad habits. I am willing to do the work afterwards to try and beat the new habits in...

I had a bit of a break through tonight. I had been hitting my irons pretty good the last couple months, but I was never hitting my driver well enough to take advantage. Played 9 tonight; tripled the first, sliced my driver into the wrong fairway on 2 but managed to save par.

Over the next 7 holes I hit all 5 fairways and all 5 greens that were not par 3s. My putter was a joke, with 3 three putts (after the triple), but I finished with a 43.

I hit rock bottom on Saturday, maxing out at about 215 with my driver according to my GPS, with a giant banana slice that went the width of the fairway. Today I was between 255-280 with the same gps system, and in the fairway all day. So pumped to get back out.

Have played this twice since Sunday. The back 9 is night and day compared to the front. I have completely lost my game in the past 5 rounds so golf currently isn't enjoyable at the moment.  I appreciate the recommendation, and hopefully will play Point Sebago Resort tomorrow or Thursday.
