Following the chunk, Tiger pushed his drive right, failed to punch out of the woods, then made bogey.

Next hole, a par 3, knocks it in the bunker, SHANKS it out of the bunker.

He can't pick Tiger.

With DJ out as of right now Patrick Reed slides into the last automatic qualifying spot.  Phil/Mahan/Todd/Bradley on the outside looking in.  Would guess Watson takes Phil and Bradley.

They US would be big underdogs even with a healthy and in good form Tiger Woods. Europe is freaking stacked. Hell, at Firestone right now 5 members of the European team are in the top 10.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but unfortunately I think Europe is going to win going away.

Just hope for some good play and see how it shakes out. Right now, Europe is heavily favored but things can get crazy. Tiger has absolutely no chance to be on the team and I also have absolutely NO interest in rooting for Patrick Reed.

Yeah.  Here's the current US roster:

Bubba Watson
Jim Furyk
Jimmy Walker
Rickie Fowler
Matt Kuchar
Jordan Speith
Jason Dufner
Zach Johnson
Patrick Reed

Here's the current European Roster:

Rory
Victor Dubuisson
Jamie Donaldson
Henrik Stenson
Sergio
Justin Rose
Martin Kaymer
Thomas Bjorn
Luke Donald

Looking at potential Captain's picks of Westwood, McDowell, Molinari, or of course, Miguel Angel Jimenez.

Crikey.

Europe just has more talent. I have no real problem with the Jim Furyk, Jimmy Walker, Matt Kuchar and Zach Johnson's of the world, but they have limitations and their ceilings aren't very high. I would take Europe's Captains picks (IMO, McDowell, Poulter and Molinari) over about half of the USA qualifiers.

Today's final round should be a good one. All sorts of good players trying to chase down Sergio. Lot's of birdies out there given all the rain they've gotten.

McIlroy just played the 502 yard par 4 with driver, 9 iron, following a 349 yard drive.  Yep, I'm depressed again.

And then they have basically the same putt for birdie from about 5 feet on 11, and Rory makes, Sergio misses, back to Rory 1 up.  Short par 3 12th coming up where guys have been firing darts all day.

Leishman and Bradley are still lurking, but feels like this has settled into match play between Rory and Sergio. Especially with the make/miss exchange on 11 to give Rory the solo lead again.

Rory closes it out. Back to World #1 with Scott stumbling down the back.

Can he make it 3 in a row next week at Valhalla?

Where it rains. No, seriously.
Played today with the dude who represented Nike in Rory's contract negotiation. He was taping the round and staying off the phone until another guy rolled up and told him Rory was on fire.

He was pissed. Plus I thumped him.

Just not a fan. But I also remember him from his days when he used to act like a giant fucking douche on the course. He's calmed down a lot, but I just don't like his on course behavior and hate watching him play.

I don't hate Furyk, I just can't stand watching him play.

Yeah, I know he's had temper tantrums and been an asshole blaming Teddy when things haven't gone his way. I don't know, most guys lose their shit from time to time and start swearing, throwing and slamming clubs on the course. He's not my favorite player, but that stuff never really bothered me much and I enjoy watching him play when he is on.

Anyway, 5 spots locked up for the Ryder Cup. Bubba, Furyk, Fowler, Walker and Kuchar are in. 6-9 headed into the final qualifying event at the PGA are Spieth, Reed, Dufner and Zach Johnson. Phil and Keegan are 10-11. Yeesh. Captains picks are dicey too. Tiger is too risky to pick, IMO. I would think Phil and Keegan get picked if they don't end up qualifying. Slim pickings after that. Maybe Snedeker has moved back into consideration.

This. Fuck him. And I'm tired of him playing the "I have emotional issues but I don't want to be diagnosed" card.

Agreed on the Bubba hate. He is a jerk. And he's such a "god boy" too. You would think a man who believe so strongly in God wouldn't be such a jerk. Turn the other cheek, Bubba.

Moore is just so bleh. I guess he is just solid and steady but his track record in majors isn't great. Watson doesn't have much to choose from however.

In reading some of the quotes from Watson's press conference this morning, it seems like Tiger's got a spot if he wants it.

Is Phil really going to play this from the hospitality booth?

Edit: Wow, he did. Flew the green into the bunker but pretty cool. Got offered at least 3 beers from the spectators.

Phil chunked one earlier today too. I can certainly sympathize.

I really like the PGA's Fedex Cup standings page.

It is simple and gives a good snapshot of what is going on.  For instance, I learned that some dude named Troy Merritt bogeyed 18 and missed out on the Deutsche Bank by 2 points.  That's pretty rough.

It got worse for him.  Brendon Todd, who had an awful day, made a 15 foot par putt on 18.  If he missed the putt, Merritt would have gotten the final spot by 1/2 point.

Woods just dumped Foley...

“I’d like to thank Sean for his help as my coach and for his friendship,” Woods said on his website. “Sean is one of the outstanding coaches in golf today, and I know he will continue to be successful with the players working with him. With my next tournament not until my World Challenge event at Isleworth in Orlando, this is the right time to end our professional relationship.”

There have been some rumblings about a reunion with Butch recently, but Butch said he wasn't interested after the PGA. Curious to see if that has changed.

I had a feeling Foley would be dumped sooner than later. There have been rumors that Tiger's camp reached out to the Harmons - I don't think Tiger goes back to Butch. I think there is too much pride on both sides and with Butch having Phil in his camp, it'll be tough to cater to both of those ego's.

If Tiger goes to a Harmon, I think it's more likely that Tiger goes to Claude III, Butch's son.
