Sorry, I should've clarified. I meant it more the other way around. The match play loses players who just decide to skip it to focus on The Players. Maybe I'm wrong. It's still a WGC event with a hefty purse on it's own.Freddy Linn said:We do a similar match play round-robin and the next tiebreaker is total holes won.
With an eight-figure purse at the Players I don't think the Honda parallel would repeat itself.

Aside from the FedEx Cup race, the Ryder Cup points race is also nearing it's conclusion and the teams are taking shape. Qualifying ends after the PGA. The tweak this year for Team USA qualifying is that Tom Watson dropped a captain's pick, so there are 9 automatic qualifiers and 3 captain's picks. Right now the 9 players on the team would be (in order):
Bunba Watson, Jimmy Walker, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk (damn it), Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson.
10,11 and 12 are Patrick Reed, Phil Mickelson and Brendan Todd. Chris Kirk is 14, followed by 2012 team members Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley. Those guys are in the mix and could qualify with good starts at the PGA. Tiger is...well I do to know where he is, I didn't scroll that far down.

I think I saw on PTI that Tiger is 214th on the points list. Tom Watson is 210th.
Ok thanks. It was on without sound across the room at the local thirst-quenching establishment, and I just briefly caught the numbers flash upon the screen.WayBackVazquez said:
That's the FedEx Cup points list.

http://espn.go.com/golf/story/_/id/11292372/dustin-johnson-takes-leave-absence-golfDustin Johnson, one of the top American players, is taking a leave of absence to "seek professional help for personal challenges I have faced" and will not play in the Ryder Cup.
Johnson, 30, an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour who tied for 12th two weeks ago at the Open Championship, released a statement through his management company after having withdrawn from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational earlier this week.
"I am taking a leave of absence from professional golf, effective immediately," Johnson said. "I will use this time to seek professional help for personal challenges I have faced. By committing the time and resources necessary to improve my mental health, physical well-being and emotional foundation, I am confident that I will be better equipped to fulfill my potential and become a consistent champion."

Apparently he's been in rehab for the booger sugar before. There was a rumor a while back that when he was out with his back injury he was really either suspended by the PGA or in rehab.Comfortably Lomb said:A lot of buzz that the Tour has a huge coke problem.

He's obviously going to rehab. What's unknown is if he's actually suspended by the PGA or not.

Given the timing you are basically dealing with one of two scenarios
1) PGA suspension
2) Really bad incident this week that lead to a desperate need for him to take action immediately
So the drug suspension is probably the better case scenario

Drug suspension seems more likely, only because 6 months is way longer than one would need for rehab.
Where ever you have a bunch of dudes making 7 figures.... you're going to have a coke problem.FL4WL3SS said:Apparently he's been in rehab for the booger sugar before. There was a rumor a while back that when he was out with his back injury he was really either suspended by the PGA or in rehab.

Oh boy.Johnson’s conduct has long been a topic of conversation among close observers of the Tour. He is often seen in bars near his home in Jupiter, Fla., and is also known to have had a sexual indiscretion with at least one wife of a PGA Tour player.
Same here. I'm basically garbage when I have a minor buzz.FL4WL3SS said:Also, it really pisses me off that this guy can go out partying and snorting coke and still be ranked the 16th player in the world. That's a lot of wasted talent.
I've got a hard enough time drinking a beer or two on the course.

cshea said:In some ways though the speculation resulting from the non-disclosure of the suspensions is worse for them. Instead of just coming out and saying "Dustin Johnson has been suspended for 6 months for violating the Tour's drug policy" we get vague statements from the parties involved, which leads to rampant speculation on what the hell is going on.
I mean, do the other leagues take that big of an image hit when players get suspended for PED's or other violations?

"With regard to media reports that Dustin Johnson has been been suspended by the PGA TOUR, this is to clarify that Mr. Johnson has taken a voluntary leave of absence and is not under a suspension from the PGA TOUR," the statement read. The TOUR issued the statement in response to media reports that characterized Johnson's absence from the TOUR as a suspension.
