Let's start with the post you first brought up here:

Can you point out where Payrod says that Phil is his favorite for this character trait? I don't believe he says his top 5 is built on guys that exhibit honesty with the media. He says Phil is #1.  He says Reed is now a top five favorite, in this case, because of this trait. There is no insinuation that the two are there for the same reasons. My favorite 5 would probably be Phil, Tiger, Freddie, Dufner and Poulter (in no particular order). There is not necessarily any common trait there that makes me like them. Does there need to be?

How about you butt out of conversations that don't include you?

Sheesh....

Edit:  I mean, I barely care about this as it is.  And you are making me feel as if I've been double-trolled here.  So screw politeness.  I'm done.

Another week, another wild Sunday finish. Bowditch holds a 1-shot lead despite being +4 on the day. Kuchar is the most accomplished player trying to chase him down.

Bowditch on the 18th tee, a par 5, with a 2 shot lead.  Have to believe par wins this thing.  Would be a MASSIVE accomplishment for the 339th ranked player in the world, gets him into the Masters, tons of exemptions and status...I'm rooting for him.

Oh boy, he yanked it left and into the line separating the rough and native area.  Looked like the ball sat down.  Could be a hard second shot even though you are assuming a layup.

He's safely on in 3.  I think he can 4 putt and still win at this point.  Really cool stuff.  Tears are already flowing.

Kuchar shot 30 on the front 9 today, and then made birdie on 10 to get to -7 through 10 holes, and take the lead.  He's currently 1 up on Luke Donald.  Kuchar is going to 16 though, while Donald still has 5 holes left.  Could be an interesting finish.

Pretty impressed with Kuchar this weekend. I have doubted his ability to close in the past, but he showed the ability to go out and win a tournament.

I saw an interview with him after The Masters where he talked about needing to be more aggressive when in contention on the final day - if he can continue to have that mentality, I think he will start winning more. That was a different Matt Kuchar yesterday.

Looks like Tiger is ramping up golfing activities. Only being able to chip and putt for the foreseeable future might be the biggest blessing in disguise for this guy, honestly. His short game has needed a lot of work since he changed swings again. If he can get his short game going, I have no doubt he'll win a lot of tournaments again.

He did win 5 tournaments last year, more than anyone. And he was PGA player of the year. And he is currently ranked #1 on the PGA World Golf Rankings. It's not like he has this humongous mountain to climb to get back to winning tournaments. He just has to stay on the course and out of the hospital.

He just damn near holed out on 16 from the fairway. 2nd hop bounced into the hole, kicks off the flag stick to about 20 feet.

Good mix on the leaderboard for the final round at Quail Hollow. A few young guys looking to break through, a few comeback stories looking for a W, and major champions mixed in.

Furyk chips in for Eagle on 15 to tie Holmes. Jim's -7 on the day, but headed into the Green Mile.

Edit: And we get Ron Rivera talking about football instead of watching golf.

JB is leaking a bit through the Green Mile. Bogey on 16, then a shaky (but dry) tee shot on 17.

I forgot how slow he can be. Dude can bomb it, but he is really meticulous at times.

Edit: Holmes drains a big 8 footer to save par on 17. Heads to 18 with a 2-shot cushion on Furyk and Flores.

What are people's thoughts heading into the Players?

Phil is playing well again, Furyk has put together some impressive showings but I have no idea who is going to step up this weekend. Will Keegan be able to put it together?

Odds I've seen have Rory at 12-1, then Scott at 14-1 and Kuch at 18-1.

Sergio seems to be a popular pick.  It's such a stacked field that almost anything can happen.

I would love to see Sergio in contention again:

That clip just doesn't get old. And how the studio had the splash at fat guy cannonball into a pool levels was just the best.

Golf Channel ran a segment last night on Live from the Players about making The Players a major championship. They presented both sides of the argument, the gist of it was:

Reasons for:
 - It is the best and deepest field of the year
 - It is the most important win outside of the 4 majors
 - The tournament venue is challenging and has the aura of Augusta (though admittedly less)
 - None of the current 4 majors is owned by the PGA Tour (and ultimately the players themselves), this would give the PGA Tour it's own major
 - Brandel made the point that we would then have a major in April (The Masters), May (The Players), June (The US Open), July (The Open Championship), August (The PGA Championship) which would lead nicely into the Fedex Cup.

Reasons against:
 - What would you do historically? Would Jack now have 21 majors? Tiger 16?
 - 4 majors seems like a good number (most players like having just the 4)
 - People don't like change

I honestly think it should be a major and pretty much already is given the field and the importance of the tournament. The only thing missing is the 'major' label.

What does everyone think?

I think it should be too...sports are always going g to be adapting just like the other major sports have increased playoff spots etc. So I don't see a problem with tainting the past

Best field. Great course with a signature hole. Always at the same place.

It's a major in every way but title. I'd give it the title.

It hasn't had the best non-major field every year recently. The Bridgestone has usually been better. Also, not sure why having it at the same place every year makes it major-like. There's only one that does that. But almost every other tour event is at the same place every year.

The main thing is, it's not even an official event on the other tours (unlike the Bridgestone). The PGA tour just declaring it a major wouldn't really make it so.

Well yeah, and the Tour Championship has a great field too.  The Bridgestone is a reduced field no-cut event.  It's totally different animal.

The Tour Championship field is not in the same league as the Bridgestone. It's not a top 10 field. The Bridgestone has had years where it features every player in the Top 50. Yeah, it's a smaller, exclusive field, with players from all over the world. Like the Masters.
