McIlroy shot 63 at The Memorial on Thursday. Today, he is six-over on the back side through six holes. Just doubled 13, 14 and 15.

Bubba starts his day with a 362 yard drive right down the middle. 32 yards longer than everyone else in the field today. He's pretty much unbeatable when he's got the driver going like that.

And of course after I say that he hits a shit wedge shot from 90 yards that doesn't even get on the green.

I am perfectly happy with Matsuyama being part of the conversation as he moved into a tie for 1st. With him, Stricker and Brown in the top 10, Langley in the top 15, and 2 more cuts made, this could finally be my week. I'm not holding my breath though.

Bubba's is a bogey free 2 under through 8, but he did fail to birdie both par 5's on the front and has been scrambling a bit the past few holes. He just drove it right on 9 and will need to scramble to remain tied for the lead.

So Bubba's adventures at 15 put Matsuyama into the drivers seat, and Matsuyama promptly puts his tee shot on 16 into the drink.

There have been some wild finishes this season. Na's actually looking good right now.

I'll be very curious to see what Bubba has to say about his decision to lay up on 15 after blowing his tee ball out of bounds.  Didn't make any sense.  He had already eagled that hole twice this week, and was in a prime spot to hit his fourth shot down by the green and try and get away with a bogey.  Basically guaranteed himself a double with the layup.

It sounded like he accidentally slammed the driver on either the mic or the tee marker. I didn't think it was that forceful a club slam.

Edit: He sticks the approach. Assuming he drains it, now we get to find out the question Faldo was asking...can he replace the driver before the playoff? I would think he cannot.

And assholes from the gallery giving Matsuyama shit for his reaction, which was barely anything.  I think he slammed the club down and hit a microphone that was next to the tee box.  He may not have realized it was there.

I'm wondering with Kevin Na's current position...

What is the earliest clubhouse leader to actually win when following leaders fade

I mean, he was in the clubhouse with the lead LONG ago.

Yeah, I was surprised it broke, based on the force.  Regardless, he'll be fine with a 3 wood

Na's tee ball on 18 goes into a creek. Advantage Matsuyama, though he played his 3 wood and is short and in the right fairway bunker with a difficult approach shot looming. He still in the driver seat since bogey may be good enough to win.

Na sits around for two hours and gets a miracle playoff and on his first shot he splashes. Golf is cruel.

Local Andover guy, and friend of mine, Rob Oppenheim qualified for the US Open today by winning the sectional qualifier in New York.  He shot 64, 73 over the last two days to get an invite.  http://golfweek.com/news/2014/jun/02/us-open-sectional-qualify-ny-2014-pinehurst-renner/

Pretty awesome stuff.  For those that weren't following, Rob has been playing on the WebMD (formerly Nationwide) for a number of years, finishing in the top 45 on the money list from 2010-2012, but he lost his status this season, and recently got it back with a 4th place finish, following a Monday qualifier into an event a few weeks back.  Gonna be a heck of a lot of fun to follow him.

After a lot of therapy I have recovered well and will be supporting my foundation next week at the Quicken Loans National. I've just started to hit full shots but it's time to take the next step. I will be a bit rusty but I want to play myself back into competitive shape. Excited for the challenge ahead.

53 year old 2-time winner Juli Inkster is in third, four off the leaders. She posted the today's low round by a couple shots. Hard not to root for the old folks in these things.

It's also worth noting that Michelle Wie is only 24. She's been around forever but still so young.

Kind of rooting for Wie today so she can shove it in the face of all her naysayers but like usual she will probably crack

Where you there today to see him at all? I know it was a pro am, but not great reviews I've seen so far.

Nah, couldn't get out today.  But he looked good yesterday at the range. Was interested in the torque in his swing, and it looked like typical Tiger.
