The Slums of Shaolin
Here are the rules:

1) This, of course, will be serpentine style. If anyone is unfamiliar with that, it means in the even numbered rounds we go reverse order. So in round one we go 1-20, round two we go 20-1, round three is 1-20 and so forth.

2) I will post the draft order in the next post. What I did was have The Four Peterse-mail me a random order of the participants while I ran 1-20 in a random sequence generator, then assigned the numbers to each name.

3) We’ll give each person 24 hours to make their pick. **Little change this year**  As best I can, I will notify someone when they are on the clock via PM, e-mail or text.  I encourage everyone to PM me their preferred method of contact.  If after 12 hours nobody has made their pick, I’ll send them another PM/Text. If after 24 hours they miss their pick, we will give them the highest available ranked golfer according to the World Golf Rankings (http://www.officialw...ps?region=world ).

4) Please BOLD AND CAPS your pick. This is going to be fun, and thought process on the pick, people busting balls, etc… is all very encouraged. So there is no confusion, BOLD AND CAPS your pick so we know.  I've asked BigMike and The Four Peters to help me out with this.  If you're mobile and can't BOLD
your selection, mention it in the post and we'll fix it.

5) I’ll do my best to update the team lists in the post #3. This is another thing I'll get help from BM and T$P with.  Before you make your pick, please check out who everyone has. Double check by going through the thread. It will start off easy, but get very difficult once we get to round 3 or 4. Sometimes, I won’t be available to update the teams as quick as the picks are coming in. If you pick someone that has already been picked, it is up to you to change your pick . Once you BOLD AND CAPS your pick, that gives the next person permission to pick their player. You will change your pick at any time, but we won’t wait to keep the draft going so you’d be only screwing yourself.

6) Again, after the Memorial we will have the opportunity to drop one player and add one player. This will be done by going off total points for the season, from last to first.

The points go as follows:

Winner 15
Playoff Loser 12
2nd (plus ties) 10
3rd-5th (plus ties) 7
6th-10th (plus ties) 5
11th-25th (plus ties) 3
25th-cut line 1

For the match play, even though its once a year, points will be:

2nd round losers 1
Sweet 16 losers 3
Elite 8 losers 5
Final 4 losers 7
Runner Up 10 (12 points for extra holes)
Winner 15

**THE DRAFT IS STARTING ON JANUARY 16TH AT 00:01 AM. YOU CAN MAKE PICKS BEFORE THAT BUT NOBODY WILL BE HELD TO THE TIME LIMIT BEFORE THEN**

20th pick. A blessing or a curse? In the right hands, it's a blessing. In my hands? It's a curse. Then again, the first pick is the only pick that wouldn't be a curse for me. Let's do this!

I got very lucky and won two weeks but other than that my season was gruesome, so it probably doesn't matter much in the end.

I'm honestly up in the air on who I'll be taking with the second pick.  Does it matter if we just start drafting whenever we're ready, but the official rules on timeframe won't start until the 16th?  Let's get this show on the road.

I was wondering if someone could do something interesting and take the standings from last year, and figure out the ranking of each player based on how they scored under our system?  I can't open Excel at home, or I'd try and figure out a way to do it (if I knew how to use excel), but I figure there is a way for someone to do it rather easily based on the final spreadsheet.

I thought about that, and honestly don't care if people want to start picking...but I figured people would want to get as much info as they could first.  For example to see how tonight's tourny plays out.  Not that it will matter much, but for some they'll want to wait I'm sure.

Works for me.  If BMHH wants to make his pick at some point during the week, I'll make mine.  If someone doesn't, I suppose it'll just end there until the 16th.

and while you guys can start picking whenever you want, I'm not going to bust anybody's balls about being on the clock until Thursday.  Fair?

I'm just not a Tiger fan, so I can't root for him.  So I've got it down to Kuchar and Snedeker.  I'll flip and coin and post my pick soon to get this thing started.
I will trade you my 1st and 3rd round pick for your first.

Bastard.  I didn't think you were messing around.  I'm seriously between about 5 guys.  Be right back.

Probably going to surprise a lot of folks, but I'm looking for guys that play a lot of tournaments, can win at any time and aren't guys that I just don't like and don't want to root for.  I may not be the biggest fan of this guy, but nobody on Earth is hotter than him right now, having won 2 straight events, and 4 of his last 7.  Going back further, he's finished in the top 10 in 11 of his last 14 events, including 7 top 5's.  He's not a huge reach, as he's currently ranked like 7th in the world, but most of the guys ahead of him are playing semi-limited schedules and I want more than just Major victories.

My guy is ZACH JOHNSON.

Zomp, you may want to update the thread title and say "DRAFT STARTED" or something along those lines so folks don't pass by it thinking we're just shooting the shit or whatever.

Sorry for the hold up, and wow, way too many choices this season picking 3rd as opposed to last. There is definitely a little risk in taking the young guy this early in the draft, but I'm going with JORDAN SPIETH

Can't say I was expecting ZJ and Spieth to go that high. Spieth is a top 10 machine though. Plays a ton of events as well.

Not getting the love for the ZJ pick - the guy has only won multiple times on tour once in his career (2 wins). He already blew his load this season, the chances of him winning again are slim and he has very limited upside in the Majors.

If he was picked at 10-15 I'd say good pick, but at #2? Yikes.

Woah that Jordan Spieth pick really surprises me. Just yesterday my boss asked me where I thought Jordan would go as I told him the draft started.  I guessed top 25 based on his second half of the year.

There were 3 guys I was comfortable taking, and all 3 are on the board. Hmmm. I can't really go wrong with any of them...but I am going with the high risk, high reward pick.

RORY MCILROY

Hard to find another player with as much talent and upside than him. He's 24 and has enough game to win major championships by 8 strokes. He can win any event he plays, and he recently beat out Adam Scott for the Australian Open, so the Nike monkey is off his back.

Though I think its a little high, I do think he's a top 10 pick and would have gladly snatched him up at #12

Spieth is a great player, but a lot will depend on what type of schedule he plays this year. He doesn't have a whole lot of exposure to elite fields. 4 majors, where he is 2/4 in cuts made and high finish of T21 (as an amateur at Olympic in 2012). He hasn't played in any WGC events yet, but this season I believe he's got his ticket punched for all of those plus all 4 majors. Who knows how he will far against those fields. Where Spieth has a lot of value is if he continues playing a heavy schedule. He could wrack up a ton of points and a win or two if he continues playing the Wyndham, John Deere, etc. and all those other smaller events that Tiger, Phil, etc. skip.

Still a TON of choices on the board right now, can go a lot of different ways with this. I honestly don't think I can go wrong between the players I am thinking about, but want to take someone who won twice last year, had 8 top 10s, is potentially poised to take another step forward, and would be another first time major winner to potentially add to continued trend of first time major winners from last year (Scott, Rose, Dufner). He's also slated to finish the year with 9 straight events (assuming he moves forward in the Fedex events). The only risk is really injuries, which he's battled recently.

The first round is glamorous, but this thing is won or lost with the depth of the team.
Well just ask johnmd or Zomp, you can lose it in the first round too.

He played in the WGC event in China in early November, which counts toward the beginning of this wrap around season.  He finished 17th.

UGH, really would have hoped a couple in front of me would have fallen.

Funny how different the draft is this year than a year ago.  Could be a great year to be in the bottom of the draft

Gonna take a chance on a guy who is still young enough that he is going to play every week, and should stay healthy. He hasn't quite broken out yet, but even if he just repeats the past couple of years he'll give me a chance  of scoring some points
