Some odds from Bovada.

https://sports.bovada.lv/mobile/#coupon/PGA

Rory 9/2
Scott 11/1
Rose 16/1
Garcia 16/1
Mickelson 20/1
Fowler 20/1
Stenson 25/1
Woods 33/1

Nobody knows if Tiger will grace us with his pressance this week. Tiger is apparently there, Joey was working the course, and Tiger asked for and received an extension to register. Anyways, it's the final major of the year. Rory is going for 3 in a row. Sergio is looking to breakthrough after some getting run over by the Rory train at Hoylake and Firestone. Phil hasn't had a single top 10 all year but shot 62 at Firestone on Sunday and says he's feeling good and has momentum. But Phil always says that. There is also Ryder Cup qualifying storylines to follow. I'm looking forward to the week.

Should be a good week. I'll be following Rory (obviously) to see if he can keep it rolling, but will also be interested in how Sergio performs.  He's openly admitted to disliking Valhalla (I believe his last round there was a thumping in Ryder Cup singles by Rickie Fowler) and could have some lingering doubts after blowing the lead last week.  I'm also looking forward to following Dufner and his 2 bulging discs. It would be quite impressive if he can put up a good showing despite injury.

I hope Tiger doesn't play, he's clearly not right and would be a major distraction. No matter where he is on the leaderboard, he alwyas sucks up 50% of the TV coverage which worsens the viewing experience.

Hoping for an exciting Sunday finish!

Underrated storyline: Adam Scott lost #1 in the OWGR last week to Rory.  I'm expecting to see both those guys there on Sunday, perhaps in the final pairing.

Keegan Bradley might not be a bad non-Rory pick. Missed the cut at the Quicken Loans, but has basically been trending up since the US Open. 3 top 5's in his last 6 starts. Won the event before and he's got a Ryder Cup spot on the line.

Yeah, I don't know if he's registered and playing in the tournament. Just that he showed up today and will play a practice round. That seems to indicate he's at least trying to give it a go.

Edit: I would guess that he plays. Very little risk. His season is pretty much over this week anyway.

Of course that is a risk. It'll depend on what his doctors have advised him to do. If they have told him to shut down, he should listen to them and regroup for 2015. If they give him the green light, then I can see him playing since it will essentially be his last event of the year.

Then there were the point missers. Bubba Watson, who complained about the Long Drive last week, hit an iron off the tee as his name was being announced.

I don't understand what his point actually was. He said he's "there to practice", so in protest he pulls an iron which isn't actually practicing what he's going to do. That's rich.

I think, personally, he loves being known as the long guy on tour and there was a chance he'd get beat, so essentially he didn't even try. He's a giant dildo.

They're showing Tiger's practice round on the Golf Channel. Wild scene, looks like a Sunday gallery following him around.

Bubba is a tool. Tough life you have there, God boy. A few years ago he did that Golf Boys video. That was very serious. I easily find myself rooting for Bubba at all times. Especially when he's screaming at his caddie.

And from the looks of the vine, he punctuates his point by walking down the fairway as his playing partner gets ready to tee off. Such a prick, GFY Bubba.

Seriously. Just humor everyone and hit driver. It takes all of like 10 extra seconds to do so. Nobody would stop him if he wanted to then play a 2nd ball with an iron off the tee in prep for the tournament.

Pretty dumb that the TV coverage doesn't start until 1. TNT can't go all day? Law & Order reruns more important? Or the Golf Channel can't cover the first half of the day?

It is kind of surprising that the coverage is only online until 1pm.

Tough week for the US Ryder Cup. Lose DJ, Tiger's injury in Akron, Kooch injury and WD, and Duff Daddy says he has a bulging disk in his neck.

Oberholser just alluded to this, and I totally agree. If Todd qualifies the Ryder Cup team is going to look like 2006 with such luminaries as Brett Wetterich and Vaughan Taylor.

Even as currently composed and if conventional wisdom holds with respect to the captain's picks, I think the US is going to get absolutely smoked.

Tiger birdied 7 (well, hole 16, but his 7th) and he has a par 5 here to close out the front 9.

+3 finish for Tiger - not sure he can recover from that. He's playing like shit.

I wonder if he's going to can Foley in the offseason. There are built in injury excuses for why he might not do it, but his driver is absolute shit and Foley can't seem to fix it. For the greatest player of our generation (and arguably ever) this is a fucking shame.

You've got to wonder if Tiger is thinking even a tiny bit of ditching the stack and tilt entirely.

Not really - Foley has taken principles from many different swing theories. Stack and Tilt forces you to straighten your right leg on the backswing with a very downward shoulder turn and a reverse C finish. Foley teaches a bent knee on the backswing and more level shoulder turn.

They both teach 'swinging left', but that's really a fad right now in golf instruction.

I actually like what Foley teaches and think Stack and Tilt is garbage. Stack and Tilt is a powerless move that puts a lot of strain on your back (coincidentally). The problem with what Foley teaches is that it's inherently technical and requires a lot of technical thoughts and precision, aka it's not natural. Tiger is, historically, a feel player and has admitted so in the past. A guy like Rose is a technical player, so it works for him.

I've tried incorporating some of Foley's principles and I'm strictly a feel player and it was disastrous. Of course, I'm not the most talented golfer on the planet either. The fact that Tiger has won and been competitive in majors with a swing completely ill-suited for him is remarkable. His talent is really what is shining through the last few years, not the swing.

Would Butch take him back? I can't remember off the top of my head if that split was amicable. Butch has a pretty large group of players he's working with, not sure if he'd be up for it. Tiger had his best years working with Butch though.

Tiger split with Butch Harmon early on when he realized that the swing they had built together would not hold up over the long term.  I can't see him going back to Butch and I don't think it would help him in any case.  (I do think Butch would love to take him back if only to feed his ego.)

The best results Tiger achieved were with Hank Haney.  Of course, hell will freeze over before those two get back together again.
