Jeff Samardzija is going to single-handedly should but won't get all the remaining yahoos who think wins mean something to admit defeat.  He's now got a 1.46 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, is averaging just under 7 IP per game over 10 starts, and is 0-4.

Edited to be more realistic.

What do you think the over/under is for exploded heads amongst the media when Samardzija starts the All Star game with zero wins?  Got to be triple digits, right?

Michael Wacha with six shutout innings tonight, then he got hit in his pitching arm by a line drive while sitting in the dugout and had to leave the game. Crazy.

Matt Cain is probably headed to the DL after leaving the game against the Rockies.

Geez, what happened to Cain? That is not good at all for the Giants.

Now that I live out in SF and am 3 blocks away from AT&T, I'm paying a lot more attention to them. Had the game on tonight and one of their better relief pitchers came up to bat in the top of the 9th, Giants are up 5-1. He works the count to 3-2, takes a big swing, puts it in play, runs it out, and fucks up his hamstring. Unbelievable. Completely meaningless at-bat. This is what I will show to my wife, who watched NL ball growing up and thinks the DH is a joke, to try and convince her otherwise.

She'll just say it is part of the game...

And Balfour limps out of it....leaving the bases loaded but somehow only giving up one for the tie. 1-1 into bottom 9.

The Rays are going to be hard to displace from the cellar. The battle for the bottom in Tampa this weekend should be epic.

Rays give up the lead in the top of 11th, then Sean Rodriguez hits a walk off 3run homer in bottom of 11. Rays win 5-2. Only 1 ahead of sox for kings of suck now.

Orioles blow the save on a chopper to 3rd in the 9th. Brewers then win it on a walkoff blast in the 10th to pinch hitter Yovani Gallardo.

Yes, Yovani Gallardo the pitcher.

EDIT: scratch that - just a walkoff double to the wall in centre. Yahoo thinks otherwise - but hard to argue with the video.

Ben Revere went 1565 PAs before his first career HR. The next active player with most PAs/0 HR who isn't a pitcher? Brock Holt with 211.

Kazmir (8.0 IP, 5H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) and Sanchez (8.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7K) in a fantastic pitchers' duel. Only run came on a Torii Hunter home run. Does this count as a developing rivalry yet?

Kazmir ended up going 9 IP (6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K), needing just 103 pitches.

Sanchez is out there in the bottom of the 9th trying to go the distance as well. He just gave up a 1-out double (3rd hit allowed) to Coco Crisp as the potential tying run.

Edit: Sanchez's night is over (8.1 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K). Nathan is coming in to try and get the save.

Great game. Happy for Kazmir: only his 2nd career complete game, the other one in 2006 with the Devil Rays.

I went down to Tampa for that game (they played Miami and TB back-to-back which makes for a nice little vacation) and Kazmir was just untouchable that night.  2 H and 2 BB over 9 innings.  Blew Manny away with the bases loaded to end the only threat of the game.

Joe Nathan is trying his best to blow another one to Oakland. 2 runs in in the ninth, 5 - 4 and 3 - 0 to Punto.

Walked Punto. Lowrie up. First and second, two out.

Nathan gets Lowrie.

So, Tigers have shaky closer situation again, it appears.

Josh Collmenter has allowed 3 hits, but he has still only faced the minimum number of batters through 7 IP (72 pitches). No walks, three double plays.

The kinda-not-perfect perfect game.

I was watching the MLB Network when the game ended.  They flashed a graphic saying that he was only the 2nd Diamondback to face the minimum amount of hitters in a game (RJ's perfect game being the other).  I wish I knew which analyst it was, but he acted like this was the most astounding thing he'd ever heard.  He couldn't believe that "with all the great pitchers in Diamondback history" that this had only happened once before.

I've got to be honest, that had me scratching my head.  In 140+ years of major league baseball, there have been 23 perfect games total.  That's one every 6+ seasons in all of baseball, not per team.  I can't imagine games where each and every baserunner allowed is immediately wiped out by a double play or pickoff are all that common either.  The fact that Arizona has had 2 of them in 16 years of existance should be more surprising than "only" having two of them.

Marcus Stroman did very well in his first career start. The news just gets better for the Jays

Oscar Taveras homers in his second career AB. It was a pretty impressive one too.

Yep, a bomb. The follow through on his swing has a bit of flourish...

Edit: Actually, it brought the rain; tarps came out before the next batter.

Old friends dept.: Mike Aviles just took Franklin Morales deep with a 3 run shot.

Ruben Tejada just hit a HR as well; he was the next longest active streak of PA with no HR (560ish I believe they said on the broadcast)
