Albany up 7-3 on Loyola at half. Hope people are watching this game, since few things are as entertaining as watching the Thompson's operate on the offensive end.

Albany up big now in the 4th quarter.  Color me surprised they could keep Loyola off the board as we all know Albany can score with the best of them.  All of a sudden, the bracket breaks open for them especially if Harvard could upset ND.  The game would be a virtual home game at Hofstra which is only a 3 hour drive from Albany and Albany has a ton of alumni on Long Island.

It's a 13-6 final for the Great Danes.

I tried to tell you guys. Anyone drawing Albany in the first round was going to have one and only one immediate thought as soon as they saw the matchup:

"Oh, fuck..."

Yes, they've had stretches where they've been offensively disjointed, and where opponents have been able to dictate possession and pace of play. But no team in the nation can create such havoc by getting on an unstoppable roll.

The Irish are having their way with Harvard, up 12-4 late. Notre Dame got off to a 7-0 lead before the Crimson countered with 4 straight. Since then, 5 more unanswered by the Irish.

D-II Update:

* Gigantic upset for #8 LIU Post as they head up to Cuse and outscore #3 Le Moyne 6-0 in the 2nd half, including 5 goals in the 3rd quarter, and advance with a 9-3 win. The Pioneers avenged a 9-8 OT loss to the Dolphins in last year's tournament. LIU Post successfully executed 13 of 14 clears, and held Le Moyne to just 3 shots on net in the 3rd frame.

* #4 Tampa got off to a 4-1 lead first-half and held off stubborn #5 Mercyhurst, 11-9. The Spartans saw the Lakers battle back to within 6-5 at halftime, and they tied it 7-7 with 6:07 left in the 3rd. But Matt Bilak scored the 4th of his 5 goals on the day just before the end of the quarter to give Tampa the lead for good. The Spartans dominated on face-offs, winning 17 of 23.

* The other two semifinals are still underway, both in the 2nd quarter and both with the top seed holding a 4-3 lead: #1 Adelphi over #6 Dowling, and #2 Limestone over #10 Queens (NC).

D-III Update:

* All the top seeds have held serve so far. Top seed RIT destroyed #15 Ithaca 20-8. The Bombers scored twice early in the 2nd quarter to get within 6-4, but it was all downhill from there. The Tigers led 11-6 at the half and then poured it on after the break, out-shooting Ithaca 29-13. RIT was a perfect 28 of 28 on clears, won the ground ball battles 47-29, and forced 22 Bomber turnovers.

* #2 Salisbury broke open a tight game after leading #11 York by just a goal at the half, and the Seagulls advanced with a 12-6 win. It was 6-5 at the break, with the Spartans winning 4 of 5 face-offs and controlling possession while out-shooting the hosts 18-17. But Salisbury forced 8 2nd-half turnovers and found the net 6 times to just once for York. Donovan Lange notched a hat trick for Salisbury.

* #6 Tufts never had a lead of more than two goals, and held on for a narrow 10-9 win over #16 Endicott in Medford. The Gulls had the edge in most metrics, out-shooting Tufts 38-37, winning 12 of 22 face-offs, scooping 25 of 43 ground balls, and in turnovers forced 17-15. But Patton Watkins came up big in net for the Jumbos, stopping 16 of 25 shots on net, while Peter Bowers & Chris Schoenhut each notched hat tricks. Harrison Cotter had a three-goal day for Endicott in a losing cause.

* #10 Lynchburg had a chance for the upset and was playing #5 Washington (MD) tough, but an ill-timed penalty cost them in momentum and on the scoreboard. They led 4-3 at the half, but the host Shoremen opened the 3rd quarter with the extra man after Lynchburg's Tommy Kesterman was assessed a 2-minute non-releasable penalty (the equivalent of an ice hockey major) for a check to the head. The Hornets scored twice with the advantage to take a 5-4 lead, but the Hornets countered with two straight to go back in front. Washington took the lead for good on a pair of goals by Stephen Luck 37 seconds apart in the final minute of the 3rd quarter, then outscored the Hornets 3-1 in the final frame. Eight different Shoremen scored goals versus just three for Lynchburg, the latter getting hat tricks from David Alyanakian & Austin Stewart. Washington's Ted DiSalvo stopped 11 shots on net (61%) vs just 7 saves for the Hornets' Andrew Fawkes (41%).

* #9 Union, stacked with a baker's dozen seniors playing their final home game, held off #12 Amherst, 17-11. Rob Santangelo had a 4-goal day with 2 assists, while Charlie Ross added a hat trick for the Dutchmen who move on to face top seed RIT. Amherst's propensity for penalties (6 EMOs for Union leading to 2 scores) and ground ball futility (37-26) provided a big boost for Union's possession time. The Lord Jeffs won 19 of 32 face-offs, but the Dutchmen managed to get more shots on net (31-26). Stefan Basile made 15 saves for the victors, while Amherst sophomore Quinn Maroney notched 4 goals & 2 assists in a losing cause.

* #4 Denison (OH) got more than they bargained for from unranked Aurora (IL), but the Big Red remained unbeaten (18-0) and avoided the upset, 11-8, The visitors jumped to a 2-0 lead, and Denison didn't get their first lead until the 2nd quarter (4-3). They held a 6-5 lead at halftime, but the Spartans tied it up a few minutes into the 3rd quarter. The decisive goals came near the end of the 3rd, with Denison going up 8-6 on Max Obriecht's second score of the game and 60th of the season. Aurora got back to within 9-8 and had an EMO late in the 4th but couldn't convert. The Big Red tallied twice more for the final margin. Denison dominated on shots (44-20), won the ground ball battle (31-22) and forced more turnovers (19-13).

* #8 Cortland had to hold off #14 Springfield College in a frantic final quarter but held on to win. The Dragons led 8-3 at halftime and 12-3 after three quarters. The Pride got one back 3 minutes into the 4th before Cortland scored two more to make it 14-4. That's when Springfield went on a tear, scoring 6 unanswered before running out of both time and gas in a 14-10 loss.

* #3 Stevenson (MD) made the best of an unlucky draw against a strong #7-ranked Cabrini (PA) squad. The Mustangs started slowly, as the Cavaliers forged a 2-2 tie early on. But Cabrini would go 22 scoreless minutes while Stevenson racked 7 unanswered goals. The Cavs broke the string with a score midway through the 3rd, only to have Stevenson respond with 3 more to make it 12-3. Cabrini made a late charge in the 4th, but it wasn't enough. It's the end of the line for nine Cavalier seniors. Matt Biegel, JoJo Cooper, Corey Elmer, Mac Feiner, Bill McCabe, Kyle O'Connor, Joey Shallow, Charles Stephens and Matt Ward led Cabrini to 62 wins, including a perfect 25-0 mark in CSAC action, four conference championships and five NCAA Tournament victories, combining for 243 goals and 188 assists during their collective tenure.

An incredible game in College Park. Cornell got off to a 4-0 lead on goals by Connor Buczek, Mike O'Neil, and two unassisted by Matt Donovan. Mike Chanenchuk got the Terps on the board with 6:00 left in the 1st half, but the Big Red answered just 12 seconds before the buzzer as Donovan secured his hat trick.

Jay Carson, Matt Rambo & Connor Cannizzaro all found the net within 90 seconds in the 3rd to get Maryland within 5-4. Cornell's John Hogan scored on the extra man to put the Big Red back up by a pair, and it stayed that way entering the 4th.

A crosscheck on Cornell's Jordan Stevens with 11:44 to play led to another Rambo goal just 8 seconds later, making it 6-5. A Big Red time out a minute later produced another Cornell goal within 24 seconds as Dan Lintner rifled one past Niko Amato, and they again were up by two.

Exactly one minute later, with 9:17 left, Rambo got his hat trick to make it 7-6 Cornell. Then Cannizzaro got his 2nd to tie it up with 8:12 to play.

Fast forward to the final minute, and a Maryland time-out with 53 seconds left. Despite solid pressure, they couldn't work it into the net. Another time-out with 9 seconds to play...

... and Chanenchuk scores with 2 seconds remaining to win it for the Terps, 8-7! Henry West charged straight in down the right side, found his teammate on a quick cross-field pass to the left of the net, and Chanenchuk whipped it in sidearm past a stunned Christian Knight in the Cornell net!! Holy fucking shit!!

EDIT - Here's a Vine of the game-winner. Wow.

Denver is dominating the Tar Heels so far. They drew first blood (Dallas Bridle on the man-up from Jack Bobzien) before UNC's Steve Pontrello answered. After that, four straight by Pioneers (Erik Adamson from Bobzien, Sean Cannizzaro from Bobzien, Adamson from Zach Miller, and Wesley Berg unassisted) and it's 5-1 at the half.

DU with a 22-12 margin on shots.

Carolina gets two back early in the 3rd, as the Pioneers switched goaltenders to start the half with Jamie Faus replacing Ryan Laplante (the two have split net duties this season). Chad Tutton and Joey Sankey score for the Heels to make it 5-3.

6:00 left in the 3rd, Denver on possession and UNC's dropped into zone defense.

EDIT - Zach Miller puts on a ridiculous fake and then rifles one in unassisted with his patented lefty shot from the right side through a screen. 6-3 Pioneers.

EDIT - Miller with another one, this time into the upper-left corner of the net, and it's 7-3 as Denver goes back up by 4.

EDIT - Heading to the 4th quarter. The Pioneers with a 30-21 shots advantage.

UNC & UD trade a pair of goals in the 4th. Noble unassisted and then Bobzien from Noble for Denver, and Tutton & Sankey each scoring for the Heels.

And it goes final as the Pioneers take it, 9-5.

Both favorites prevailed. Adelphi escaped with an 8-7 win as Aidan Bennardo made a huge save, his career-high 14th of the day, with 1:14 left in a 7-7 game. That stop set up a final possession for the Panthers in which Sal Tuttle scored the decisive goal with just 6.3 seconds to play. Adelphi improves to 17-1, while the Golden Lions of Dowling finish the year at 12-5.

Limestone turned on the jets, going on a 13-3 tear to eliminate Queens, 17-6.

The D-II Semifinals for Sunday 5/18:

#8 LIU Post (NY) at #1 Adelphi (NY)
#4 Tampa (FL) at #2 Limestone (SC)

Hopkins up 4-2 after the first quarter. Virginia was dominating up 2-0 and Hopkins had 4 sloppy turnovers. Then UVA's goalie turned the ball over on a clear leading to an empty netter for Hopkins which woke them up. Hopkins is dominating the face offs so far, but Virginia is taking an interesting approach and leaving Kennedy alone after the face offs and he is having a hard time getting the offense set up.

Two keys for Hopkins will be to limit turnovers and get some production out of the second midfield line (already one goal which is huge).

Wow, Van Arsdale whips one in for UVA just seconds after the Cavs were put on the timer. He casually jogged a couple of steps out from the right goal-line extended (to Schneider's left), then abruptly turned and fired. Hopkins caught off guard there.

9-6 Jays with 10:00 left in the 3rd.

Make it 9-7 as Zed Williams nails an overhand bouncer from 30 feet out, using his defender as a screen. Possession set up by a failed Hopkins clear.

Now another turnover on a missed shot by Hopkins, and here come the Cavs again.

Tyler German with his 12th of the season and UVA is within a goal. Their 4th unanswered going back to the 1st half when it was 9-4 JHU.

The Cavs pulled off the comeback win in March over Hopkins. Might be deja vu in the works. They're out-shooting JHU 12-1 this quarter.

Pretty goal, set up by some great perimeter ball movement. Benn essentially playing basketball center, taking the feed with his back to the net, then turning and firing with the low equivalent of a Kareem sky hook.

Matt Barrett has made some ungodly saves for UVA. Even with the Cav's scoring run earlier, this game could have been a Hopkins blowout.

And now it's 12-8 JHU after a Holden Cattoni score on an underhanded whipper from the right after maneuvering across the field from the left. Great move.

Stanwick gets his 4th and it's 13-8 Hopkins with 5:41 left, running in from the left sideline, then stepping out from the defenders and jumping up to fire it over their sticks. Happened in a split second. Amazing how polished these guys' maneuvers are at this level of the sport.

Make it 5 for Stanwick and a 14-8 Jays lead with 3:18 left, splitting the double team for the score.

EDIT - No comeback today for the Cavs. This one's over. It's also Dave Pietramala's 158th career win for JHU, tying him atop the all-time D-I coaching list with another Hopkins legend, Robert H. "Bob" Scott (1954-74).

Just over 2:00 left in the half, and Drexel will be a man up following an unreleasable penalty on Penn.

Jules Raucci gets Drexel back within a goal with a nice move from the left doorstep up top. Penn goalie Brian Feeney can't do anything with it.

EDIT - And right after the face-off, Nick Saputo gets his 2nd of the game pulling up and firing for the tying score. Two goals in 5.4 seconds.

EDIT - HOLY SHIT!! The exact same thing again off the face off!! Saputo again sprints down on the right, stops and fires overhand!!. Nothing but net! Three goals in 11.3 seconds. Never EVER seen anything like this at any level of LAX. What a way to get the hat trick, especially for a kid who came into the game with three goals ALL SEASON. Stunning end to the half as the Dragons lead 7-6.

Jared Boudreau opens the 2nd half with his 17th of the season and Drexel's up 8-6 with 11:40 left in the 3rd. That's 4 straight for the Dragons.

Saputo just won his 6th straight face-off.

EDIT - And Raucci gets his 2nd of the day to make it 9-6 Drexel. Beautiful move from left to right as he goes vertical and fires it in overhand at the top of his leap.

EDIT - And now Boudreau gets his 2nd of the game and it's 10-6 off the feed from Raucci. That's 6 straight goals in the last 4:44 for the Dragons, and the Quakers are reeling big time. They switch goalies, putting junior John Lopes in net.

EDIT - Oh my. Even a goalie change can't help the Quakers. It's 11-6 on 7 straight goals.

What a display by the Dragons. Two more quick scores early in the 4th, Ben McIntosh with the latest goal, and it's 13-7. That's his 2nd of the day and 45th of the year, and he's now in a 4-way tie for the all-time Drexel record.

EDIT - Ryan Belka gets his 2nd of the game, 25th of the year, and Drexel doubles up the Quakers 14-7 with 11:15 left. He crept in from the left, circling toward the net, going around several defenders who failed to put sticks on him, and shoveled it in up top.

EDIT - Mike Crampton responds for the Falcons, grabbing a loose ball and taking it straight to the net. 16-6.

EDIT - What a goal by Jordan Wolf. Insane quickness as he sprints from behind the net to the goalie's left, and makes one of the fastest turn-and-fire moves you'll see. 17-6, Devils.

EDIT - Matheis with the hat trick, and Jones with another assist (8 points today) as he dishes off while triple-teamed. 18-6 Duke.

EDIT - Crampton nets his 2nd for Air Force on a low-to-high riser from the right side. 18-7.

EDIT - Two more for the Falcons, the second from Crampton for the hat trick, and it's 18-9. Three straight for Air Force, and those last two came while a man down.

EDIT - Wolf with another one. He's scored in 19 straight games (with 62 goals over that stretch), and he's gone 58 straight games with at least one point. 19-9 Blue Devils with 3:20 to play.

EDIT - Following a garbage time goal by Seamus Connelly, it's a 20-9 final, Duke's reward is a date with Johns Hopkins.

Cuse & Bryant about to get underway. It's a rematch of last year's NCAA opener for both teams, and while the Bulldogs put a scare into the Orange, Cuse prevailed by 5 goals. That was a relatively young 8-10 Bryant squad. This year they're 15-4 with experience in the bank. We'll see if the Bulldogs' zone D frustrates the Cuse attack.

Bryant came to play. 3-1 Bulldogs after one quarter at the Carrier Dome, and Syracuse has looked flustered.

Colin Dunster, Tucker James & J.K. Poirier score for the visitors. Hackem Leckey with the lone goal for the Orange.

EDIT - Nicky Galasso cuts strong down the middle, takes a feed from the left, and scores for Cuse to cut the deficit to 3-2.

EDIT - James off a turnover about 20 yards in front of the Cuse net gets it right back for Bryant as he rifles it in from the left point.

EDIT - Harry Schoonmaker responds for the Orange, and they trail 4-3.

EDIT - Wow. Alex Zomerfelt rifles one in for Bryant from 20 feet out on the step down. This after the Bulldogs grabbed a critical ground ball next to their own net, drove it down field against immense Syracuse pressure, and went into a stall to eat some clock. With a stall warning in effect and winding down, they get the shot off just in time and make it count for a 5-3 lead.

EDIT - Dylan Donahue cuts the deficit to one for the Orange. Bryant's Kevin Massa is dominating Cuse's Chris Daddio on face-offs so far, winning 8 of 11. Time out Bulldogs with 3:00 left in the half.

EDIT - They'll head to the halftime break with Bryant leading 5-4. Syracuse is 3-3 this year when trailing at the half.

Zomerfeld with his 2nd of the game for Bryant. It comes 4:30 into the 2nd half, and the Bulldogs are up 6-4.

EDIT - Kevin Rice does about 30 seconds worth of juking back & forth behind the net, then steps up on a dodge from the goal line extended, turns to his left and fires it in for the Orange. Cuse still trails 6-5 with 7:38 left in the 3rd.

EDIT - Dunster gets his 2nd of the night for Bryant, and they're back up by two with 5:00 to play in the 3rd. Massa wins yet another face-off for the Bulldogs, his 12th of the game. Can't overstate how huge that's been.

EDIT - Amazing. Bryant held possession for 3:30 straight. Then when Cuse finally took over, the Bulldog zone really stiffened up and frustrated the shit out of them, same as they've done for most of the game. Only two Orange shots came close in the final 1:30 of the quarter, but Gunnar Waldt knocked them both away with no trouble whatsoever. They'll head to the final period with Bryant leading 7-5. Syracuse is 1-4 this year when trailing after three quarters.

Cuse is clearly getting frantic and feeling the pressure. They take possession, but their passes aren't crisp and neither are their shots. The zone continues to frustrate them, but only after a 20-second flurry over a loose ball near the crease are the Orange finally able to find the net. It took them 3:30 to do it, but it's a 7-6 game.

EDIT - Daddio wins his first face-off in forever for the Orange. Could be a huge momentum swing if they can tie it.

EDIT - And there it is. Randy Staats attacks, penetrates, and goes to work like a power forward in the paint to find a hole and put it in. All even at 7-7 with 10:31 left.

EDIT - A Bryant shot hits Wardwell in the head. He never saw it. Really close to another Bulldogs lead. 8:00 to play, still in Bryant's possession.

EDIT - James gets the hat trick! His 5th of the year, and Bryant goes back on top 8-7 with 7:52 to play. He had missed the bulk of the previous two quarters with a leg injury, but returns when they need him most. The upcoming face-off might be the most important of the game.

EDIT - Massa jumps early, and it's automatically Syracuse ball.

EDIT - Staats goes down awkwardly near the Bryant crease, and he can't get up. Trainers out there, can't tell if they're working on his calves (cramps) or his knees (2 ACL surgeries). He comes off the field under his own power, but does so gingerly and with a pronounced limp, then lies down near the bench.

EDIT - Save Waldt! Bryant grabs the loose ball and they're on the attack with 6:15 left.

EDIT - Harris tracks down James and it seemed to me he knocked him down, but there's no call and Cuse takes over and charges down field.

EDIT - Another gigantic save by Waldt from point blank! HUGE!

EDIT - James scores his 4th of the night!! Bulldogs by 2 with 4:52 left!

Here we go, under 5:00 to play, and another critical face-off coming. Gigantic upset brewing. This is only the 2nd year of NCAA D-I postseason eligibility for Bryant after moving up fro D-II.

Daddio wins the face-off. Staats back in the game.

EDIT - Rice scores again, firing it in from the goal line extended to Waldt's right about 30 feet away. Back to a 1-goal game.

EDIT - Daddio jumps on the face-off, Bryant ball with 3:15 left.

EDIT - Holy Crap!! Bryant goal by Shane Morrell on the right-to-left whip-around after running around the Cuse net! 10-8 Bulldogs.

EDIT - SAVE WALDT with 2:40 left!

EDIT - A huge penalty call on an illegal hit against Cuse. Bryant goes a man-up for 1:00.

EDIT - Cuse gets a turnover with 1:45 to play. Wow.

EDIT - Still 5 seconds on the Bryant EMO, and Cuse calls their final time-out in regulation with 1:31 left in the game.

EDIT - Another big save by Waldt. 50 secs left. Still Cuse ball.

EDIT - OH MY! Biggest save of the night by Waldt on a fireball by Schoonmaker! Bryant takes over.

EDIT - Cuse gets it back, and scores with :07 left. It's down to a 1-goal lead for Bryant. Rice's shot came from the side of the net and somehow just squeezed in between Waldt's right leg and the left post.

EDIT - Massa vs Daddio for all the marbles coming

Frigging 2-3 zone just totally ineffective yesterday, and SU couldn't make a single outside shot.
