There are times when a head first slide can be useful, and it's fairly instinctual as well.  The better plan is this:

Why more guys don't run the bases holding their batting gloves is a mystery to me.  There are very few instances where the extra 3 inches of finger length are going to make the difference between out and safe, but keeping your hands tight to hold the batting gloves keeps all the fingers and the thumb tucked tight and safe(r) from injury.

Atlanta sitting their 2, 4, 5 and 6 hitters tonight against Fernandez. That's Upton CF, Upton LF, Uggla 2B, Johnson 3B. (although BJ Upton is a 2 hitter in name only really).

White flag.

Eh, it's not just Upton who is a 2 hitter in name only. Other than Justin Upton, none of them are hitting at all.

2014 numbers:
CF BJ Upton .579 OPS --> CF Jordan Schafer .623 OPS
2B Dan Uggla .572 OPS --> 2B Tyler Pastornicky .933 OPS (6 PA)
3B Chris Johnson .617 OPS --> 3B Ramiro Pena .786 OPS

BJ Upton, Uggla, and Johnson are all right-handed hitting and have low-.500 OPS figures against RHP. Schafer bats lefty and is better against righties, RHH Pastornicky doesn't have a lot of career data but shows neutral splits if not better against RHP, and Pena is a switch hitter who is way better against RHP.

Justin Upton is 0-7 with 4 K against Fernandez over his career.

We won't know how the regulars would have done, but Pena and Doumit accounted for two of the Braves' three hits tonight. Pastornicky was the only Braves position player to draw a walk. It's not much, but JoFer doesn't give up much.

And the first MLB team to 20 wins is... the Brewers. I wonder what the Vegas line for that was pre-season.

They're already 6.5 games ahead of the Cardinals, who they play this afternoon on MLBN as they go for the sweep (1:45 pm EDT).

They're also 11-1 on the road.

KRod 13 saves (ties March/April record), 0.00 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, 23K/4BB and he wasn't even the team's closer going in to Spring Training.

Yankees-Mariners and Phillies-Mets both rained out. The latter is rescheduled for June 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if Orioles-Pirates also gets postponed.

PPD everywhere. This one storm has obliterated my team today.

Of my 12 position players, only 4 -- FOUR! -- will play their game as scheduled.
I'd say no one cares about your fantasy team but I'm in the same boat.

Mauer owes Dozier a beer. Or a car. Or whatever multimillionaires buy guys who save them from getting and E3.

While we're on the Fernandez subject... so good it's worth re-posting.

edit: and it's time for a May gamethread, no?
