Not that it specifically burned them today, but why the hell would you write out the 2-5 spots in your lineup as R-R-L-L instead of flipping Gonzo and Hanley to alternate handedness? That's just asking to be abused by specialist relievers.

The crowd cheering in PNC when Cutch got his base hit is amazing. Super infectious, I'm so happy baseball is back.

Things starting to fall apart for Verlander in the 4th. Three walks so far in the inning, including walking in a run, plus a double by Sal Perez. Currently has based loaded and Hosmer up.

Edit: Gets Hosmer to pop up to escape the jam.

It looks like having your first major league start on opening day is not such a great idea.  Texas has to be so worried about its starting staff.

Is ESPN really going to keep that hot zone graphic up during the pitches?

Where did Strasburg's fastball go? He's sitting at like 92 MPH.

That one pitch to Brown looks like it will haunt Strasburg's start. Otherwise, he's been good. 6 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 ER (3 runs on that 2 out HR), and 10 K. He retired his final 10 battes in a row and went 12 outs without allowing a hit to finish up.

Mets relievers throw 8 straight balls and it's 4-4 between the Mets-Nats. Gee is no longer eligible for the win, and could be on the hook for the loss. Strasburg is either getting a no decision or win.

Top 9: Desmond with a leadoff single, then Espinosa works a great walk with 2 outs. Span with an RBI hit to tie the game, 5-5 between the Nats and Mets now.

Edit: Going bottom 9, Aaron Barrett making his MLB debut on the mound for Washington.

Haters assemble: Alex Gonzalez went 2-4 with a game-tying RBI triple in the 7th and walk-off RBI single to win it for the Tigers.

Nats-Mets going extras.

Nats challenge a close tag play at first. It was upheld and looks like the right call, but it was close. I love replay.

He is the only player on the team left that Natstown! stuff happens to.

Since the end of the 2011 season, Ramos hasn't gotten a single break, except for the one in his hand today.

Pre-2012 season: Kidnapped by gunmen in Venezuela
Early 2012: Torn ACL
Early 2013: Multiple hamstring issues
Opening Day 2014: Broken hand

It looked bad at the time, and now it looks like Dickey for Syndergaard and D'Arnaud could be a historically bad trade for the Blue Jays.

It looked bad at the time? I know people were saying the Jays overpaid by a bit but I think you're rewriting history here. It wasn't in the same league of mocking that the Myers/Shields trade was.

Jose Fernandez is so much fun to watch.  What an adjustment in the middle of the first after the first three batters swing early, he starts going out of the zone getting them to chase, and works himself out of a 1st & 2nd, one out jam, getting Tulo to K, and Morneau reaching and pulling a grounder to second.

That, and his unbelievable stuff make me really excited for the rest of this kid's career.

Holy shit, and his second inning was just pure filth.

Through three innings, he has thrown five balls (35 strikes) and has six Ks. That is insane.

And he smiles the whole damn time.  CarGo crushes a home run and does a pretty sweet bat flip, and Jose just smiles the whole time....then mows down the next two hitters.

Um, it has been a while since I dropped acid.  Can someone convince me that the mascot race that just took place at Marlins Park isn't a flashback?

seems they have been doing it for a few years (MIA tweeted this in 2012)
