Bayern 1-0 CSKA Moscow in front of a completely empty stadium thanks to a UEFA sanction on CSKA fans due to racist behavior. Made for very creepy TV audio.

Winners of the day?

In Group F, PSG parked the bus and barely held on at home against Barcelona, 3–2. Good result for them without Zlatan. After drawing against Ajax, they're now ready for two matches against APOEL. The Camp Nou match on 12/10 will likely determine the group winner.

In Group G, Schalke have to be a bit disappointed with a draw against Maribor, but the latter have looked the spoiler in their two matches so far. Other than Chelsea, hard to predict who'll come out of that group.

As WBV mentioned, in Group H Porto shocked Shaktar to gain a draw going away. Horrible result for the Ukraine side, but that group seems wide open. Bilbao's league struggles are continuing at the continental level.

Man City needs to beat up on CSKA on match days 3 and 4.

Two non-Giroud-esque goals for Welbeck.

Also, I love how criticizing Ozil is a national pastime for English announcers.  There's certainly plenty to criticize, but that goes for almost all players, not just Ozil.

Ozil just left the third on a plate for Welbz who grounded tamely to the keeper. I dont think Danny's left foot is all that strong but I'm not complaining.

#1 priority right now is to avoid any more injuries.  Except for Flamini, I almost wouldn't mind if he got hurt.  Almost.

Is there really any doubt that Ozil should be working somewhere in the middle?  Him and Sanchez passing in combo with Welbeck's runs…very nice.  Can this happen with Ramsey and Wilshire playing where they normally play?

Galatasaray are too poor an away side to draw many conclusions, but it's nice to see two fast wingers + fast striker + central Ozil working well.  Then again, Arsenal already look way better than they did home against Besiktas, a team of similar quality and from the same league.

Yup, its good to see but Galatasary has largely played into our hands by playing deep and passive when not in possession. Chelsea will be another beast entirely, especially at the Bridge.

That's a red card by the book, but the rule is just ridiculous.  There are tons of alternatives where the punishment fits the crime far better.  Yellow+penalty, red+no penalty, penalty+loss of substitution, etc.

Red + penalty is the equivalent of giving up 1.5 equivalent goals or something like that, depending on how much time is left when the foul was committed.  No foul is worth that, especially one where the foul is essentially a save attempt, not a tackle.

I'd like a rule where the attacking team has the choice.  Red Card + free kick from edge of area, or Yellow Card + penalty.

Yup, I've made this argument on the board before. Its not "denial of a goal scoring opportunity" if there is a penalty kick given.

Definite red by the book though. As was the Melo tackle, which was actually very dangerous.

Is Sczerny off for Chelsea or Anderlecht?

Pretty sure cards in CL only apply to CL.  Cards in England apply to any English competition (league, league cup, FA cup).

No injuries (assuming Alexis is okay), dominant performance until the red card, losing Szczney for Anderlecht probably isn't that big of a deal, good day for Arsenal.

This doesn't even take into account that the player is suspended for the next match as well.  How many teams carry more than two or three keepers?  It seems awfully harsh considering how big an impact a goaltender can have… an almost guaranteed goal, a portion of a game played down a man..and one less sub since you had to sub for the keeper, and another game with your second keeper.  What's even more ridiculous is when the team has to play a field player in net because they're out of subs…seems like there should be another way of doing that.
