Red Sox selected SS Jonathan Roof from the Phillies in the AAA draft.  The Red Sox originally drafted Roof out of high school, but he did not sign.  He's been passed around a few organizations, is 24 years old, and only has 49 games above high-A ball.

Roster question concerning Almanzar -

If he starts the year on the O's active 25 man roster (and obviously the 40 man roster) and is subsequently returned to the Sox do they have to place him on their own 40 man roster or would he be subject to waivers ?

I have two things to say about this article.

1) The Rangers want to bring in an athlete from another sport to teach their players how to be professional.  Not sure how that will fly, especially with their veterans.

2) This quote:

The Rangers' scouting department believes strongly in acquiring good athletes and isn't hesitant to draft some who play other sports. Texas acquired the rights to Ricky Williams from Montreal after the Expos had taken him in the Rule 5 draft in 1998, even though the Texas running back and Heisman Trophy winner was likely headed for a career in the NFL.

Is ESPN at its finest.

Can anyone give me a scouting report on Thomas Kahnle, the guy the Rocks picked up from mfy?  Have any of our resident Yankee fans seen him?

RAB says:

"Kahnle, 24, was the team’s fifth round pick in the 2010 draft, out of Lynn University in Florida. They gave him $150k to turn pro. Kahnle had a 2.85 ERA (3.85 FIP) with a ton of strikeouts (11.10 K/9 and 28.8 K%) and a ton of walks (6.75 BB/9 and 17.5 BB%) in 60 innings for Double-A Trenton this summer. He throws very hard, regularly running his fastball up to 97-98, but he lacks a good offspeed pitch and his control is shaky at best. The Yankees offered him in trades for Alfonso Soriano and Michael Young before the deadline earlier this year."
