I haven't but I got my dad tickets for Father's Day a couple years ago and he said he had a blast and it was well worth it. Weather is looking gorgeous too.

I've been the past 2 years and it was absolutely worth it.  Last year vs. 2011 was a big change since Tiger was there last year. Galleries following him are huge compared to just about everyone else.  We only bothered to see him tee off on 1 hole but we got there about 8 groups before him so we were able to be right up against the ropes. His group may be extra swollen on Friday and Saturday since he'll be playing with Lefty and Adam Scott.

I'm not a big fan of golf as a spectator sport, but the DB is as good as any.  It's a first rate group of golfers, that's for sure, and there are plenty of good viewing areas.  The logistics are not a nightmare as long as you remember where you parked your car.

It can get boring at times, but I think it's a great spectator sport if you take it for what it is - enjoying a beautiful day, getting some exercise, having some drinks and watching action every 10 mins.

I've been many times, and for me, it just really depends on who you are with.  Like Flawless said, if you take it for what it is, a day to get out, have a few drinks and just enjoy watching some golf here and there, it can be really fun.  If you have a good group, and you can find a comfortable spot, it's an enjoyable day.

But, if you are going out to really pay close attention to the action, trying to follow the leaders, etc., you might be disappointed.  It doesn't really lend itself to that.  You can't just find a group and walk along with them, especially on the weekend.  There are too many people camped in the best spots to watch the action closely and follow along.  That's what the television is for, but if you are into getting out and having a nice day with good weather, go for it.

For me, I enjoy going to the practice rounds and particularly, the driving range to watch the guys do their thing.  That's where you really get to see just how damn good they are.  In order to see that important putt or hole, you just kind of need to get lucky and be in the right place at the right time, so if you're going and expecting to watch it like you would a baseball or football game, get that out of your head.

It's fun. I recommend picking a non-leader group and following them for a bit and then planting yourself on one of the last few holes and watching other groups play through. 17 was my favorite spot to sit around and watch. It's a short par 4 with some trouble and a forced lay-up. Also, the last part of the back nine is generally where the most is going on (so you can bounce around a bit). A lot of the rest of the course is spread out of a huge area. Edit: And yes, go with people you don't mind chatting with. There's a lot of down time when you're actually on the golf course with the players. I had a great time because it was just a long day out in the sun with some buddies and having some drinks. I could see it not being for other people.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of just thinking of roaming around the course for a bit and watching the guys play. I realize trying to follow Tiger (if he plays) would be a shit show, as well as the leaders. I don't mind watching some of lesser known guys play. My other idea was to try and find a spot around the driveable par 4 (4th hole?) and watch the field play it, but I assume that's a place people rush too and getting a decent spot would require getting there early and not moving.

It really depends what day you go - I've never been to the Deutsche, but I go to the Memorial every year and going Thurs/Fri it's pretty awesome (and occassionally on Saturday morning). You can get around the course easily without too many crowds and pick your spots. Also, getting to the course at 11AM (or sooner if you'd like) makes a big difference. Most people start showing up to the course after lunch, so getting in the morning is key (usually nicer weather too).

I say this all without ever being to TPC Boston, Muirfield was built specifically to host tournament golf, so my experience may be different than other venues.

No you're correct.  The TPC is a wonderful place to see a tournament.

I'll be going all 4 days this year.  Usually I camp out at the first tee for a few hours, then 2 fairway (reachable par 5 over water), then go to 16 (par 3) and finally 18 green.

There's also something to be said for going to one of these playoff events just for the quality of the field alone. You're going to get to see basically all the best players in the world at the same time. And actually being out there on the course, seeing elevations and so on, is a much different experience I think than watching on TV. If you're a golf fan and have never been before, I'd definitely recommend doing it.

These guys are making this course look like a pitch and putt place. A par feels like bogey. -25 the winning score?

I was going to guess something like that. Depends on the weather tomorrow but a few players could end the day between -18 to -20.

Can anyone explain what they are doing with the people who played a few holes this morning?  Jason Kokrak was on the 4th and now appears to be starting on the 10th? He was greenside on the 4th, I am real confused.

They scrapped the early morning play and re-started the round entirely for all players.  Think they did it so they could implement lift, clean, and replace.

Thats what it appeared, but I just had never seen that implemented.  I figured someone like Zach Johnson (can't remember if it was him) that was -2 through 4 or 5 holes would be pretty upset by that.

I would imagine that the prospect of 18 holes playing a clean ball on every shot trumps finishing the original round having to play mudballs, even with the hot start he had before the delay.

Makes sense, I wasn't really thinking that you can't change the rules to incorporate lift and clean midway through after a delay.

I played there a few years back a week before the players came in, so it was playing under the conditions that they get.  We played from about 700 yards in front of where their tees are, and the greens were running at like a 13, the rough was absurd.  One of the hardest rounds of golf I've ever played.  I shot a 77 today, and I literally have no problem saying that these guys, on average, are 25-30 shots better than I am.  It's fucking crazy.  They just play a different game than the rest of us on Earth.

My instructor mentioned he played with a couple of 8 handicaps there a week ago.  They didn't play from the deep championship tees, but most of the way back, and none of them could break 100

Yup, I'm playing at a 9 right now, and I don't think I could carry it to the fairway on at least 2-3 holes.  Almost every par 4 would play as a 3 shot hole, and the par 3's would eat me up.

And that's just when talking about length.  Now, add in the greens running faster than any of us amateurs are typically used to, and the rough being absurdly long, and there is no chance I break 100.  And these guys are throwing 65's around like their hanging out at their local Muni.  It's awesome and scary and really makes me feel bad about myself all at the same time.

Well, the course has a lot of waste areas and places you don't want to be. I could see an 8 handicapper being destroyed but a lot of the trouble is stuff that pros generally know how to and can avoid. The greens and fairways are incredibly generous and the green complexes aren't anything special if they miss. So far as courses the pros play it's kind of a joke. I know it's wet and playing soft and slow this year but it's not a course these guys ever really struggle with.

Anyone else going today? 90 minute delay so far.  Yesterday my dad and I got there at 930 only to wait until 1215 for them to tee off.  Not happening today, as my fiance and I are waiting at home until the weather looks better.  Unfortunately, it looks like a start and stop all day so hopefully they get it in.

The first two days, particularly the first day, was the best.  No one there, beautiful weather.  We camp'd out on 13 fairway on the right side and were almost hit by a few balls.

The finish should be live, play is resuming at 4 and the broadcast is all caught up.

Perhaps with the forecast today, NBC tape delayed the early play specifically to be able to minimize the dead time caused by the weather holds.  Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit.

Today was the last day to qualify for the President's Cup. Fred Couples and Nick Price each have 2 captains picks.

US: TIger Woods, Brandt Snedeker, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Bill Haas, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson.

The World: Adam Scott, Jason Day, Charl Schwartzel, Ernie Els, Louis Oosthuizen, Brenden Grace, Richard Sterne, Hideki Matsuyama, Graham DaLaet, Angel Cabrera

Captain's picks announced sometime this week. I would think the US decision is 2 of Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Billy Horschel and Webb Simpson.

Would anyone have believed a couple months ago that Stricker would actually make the team as an automatic qualifier.   Good lord he is amazing

11 starts,  never out of the top 40.
9 in the top 20
8 in the top 13
4 top 5 including 3 seconds

Freddie goes with Jordan Spieth and Webb Simpson. Nick Price selects Brendon de Jonge and Marc Leishman.

I feel like Simpson's been pretty shitty since winning the US Open last year. I guess the alternatives of Dustin Johnson and Jim Furyk haven't been great shakes either though.

No Furyk = A-OK in my book. I think I would have liked to see DJ over Simpson but I don't have a problem with either of those two picks.

He's three feet away for his birdie.  Looks pretty likely at this point.

Most amazing thing is he's got a bogey on the card.  Unreal round.

I wonder where this ranks among the 59's   It's not a brutally difficult course, but at the same time, this is the playoffs, and it seems like the course was playing pretty fair to par today.  He was I think more than 12 stroked below course average today,  and 6 strokes clear of the second best round out there
