Looking forward to heading up to Lowell tomorrow for the AE tournament.  Haven't ever been to the Spinners' stadium so I'm excited to see it.  All 4 teams are pretty evenly matched so it should be an unpredictable tournament.  All games are on Americaeast.com and the championship round is on ESPN3.

The start of the Big 12 tournament has been postponed from today until tomorrow in deference to the Moore tornado. They were originally slated to use the standard 8-team, double-elimination format but instead they'll be split into two pools of 4 teams playing 3 games apiece. The winners of each pool will meet for the title on Sunday.

Pool A - #1 Kansas St, #4 Oklahoma, #5 Baylor, #8 Texas Tech
Pool B - #2 Okla St, #3 W. Virginia, #6 Kansas, #7 TCU

The Longhorns (7-17, 27-24) failed to qualify.

A bunch of upsets yesterday but no major shockers. They included a couple of non-tournament road wins with BYU knocking off #16 Arizona St 8-3, and USC upending #23 Cal-Irvine 6-4. The showdown between #8 Oregon and #3 Oregon State in Corvallis was rained out and will not be rescheduled.

SEC (Hoover AL) - Day one losers are eliminated from conference play, so it's highly unlikely we'll be seeing 8-seed Florida (14-16 SEC, 29-28) in the NCAA field of 64 after their 6-3 loss to 9-seed Texas A&M (13-16, 30-25). The other openers were won by 5-seed and #13 Miss St (2-1 over 12-seed Missouri in 17 innings on a Mitch Slauter walk-off RBI single), 6-seed and #21 Ole Miss (4-1 over 11-seed Kentucky) and 7-seed Alabama (6-3 over Auburn). By virtue of its sub-.500 overall record (18-32) Missouri's season is over. But Auburn (13-17, 33-23) and the Wildcats (11-19, 30-25) are eligible for at-large bids, as are the Gators.

Big South (Lynchburg VA) - Top-seed and #24 Campbell (19-5, 47-9) cruised over 8-seed Charleston Southern 4-0, as 6'7" righty Ryan Mattes went the distance. Also advancing in the 8-team double-elimination field were 2-seed Coastal Carolina (6-1 over 7-seed Longwood), 4-seed Radford (6-3 over host and 5-seed Liberty) and 6-seed Gardner-Webb (8-2 over 3-seed High Point).

Missouri Valley (Normal IL) - 6-seed Indiana St (9-11, 25-23) pegged off 3-seed Creighton (13-8, 30-17) by a 4-3 final, as a 2-run 9th-inning rally by the Blue Jays fell short with two runners left on base. Junior Josh Negele was the short-notice starter and winner for the Sycamores after scheduled starter Sean Manaea felt tightness during pre-game warm-ups. 7-seed Southern Illinois (6-15, 25-31) followed that up with another shocker, beating 2-seed Wichita State (15-6, 34-26) 5-1. Senior southpaw Cody Forsythe went the distance for SIU with 7 Ks. The afternoon games went as expected with 4-seed Missouri St (12-9, 31-21) beating 5-seed Evansville 2-1 as the Bears rallied for a pair in a walk-off 9th, and top-seeded host Illinois St (16-5, 37-18) hammering 8-seed Bradley 11-1 as Sr. RH Chris Razo improved to 8-1 on the year with 7 Ks over his 7 innings.

Not a great day for the Seawolves, as Maine shuts out Stony Brook 7-0 on a Tommy Lawrence 2-hitter. The Black Bears got on Frankie Vanderka early with a 4-run first, and Eric White chased him with a one-out 3-run homer in the 5th.

It's a four-team tournament and Binghamton & Albany are in a weather delay. Provided they get the game in, SBU faces the loser in an elimination match at 8 pm tomorrow. Maine would get the winner at 4 pm. Pretty sure a postponed game would be played tomorrow morning.

2013: Finished 21-32, SEC 7-20, last place among 14 teams

The rash of injuries in Athens has been 2010-12 Red Sox-esque, but someone had to take the fall.

Georgia is a mid-tier program that should be an absolute powerhouse. Georgia Tech is a perennial top-15 team and has better tradition and baseball facilities than Georgia, but UGA mostly has all the same advantages as Tech does, and also is the flagship school in the state and has less demanding academics. Sure, Georgia has sort of been the Marlins to GT's Braves - GT consistently gets into the tourney, while UGA has caught lightining in a bottle and made it to Omaha more often - but it's unfathomable why they can't get it together every year. That 2012 season is basically par for the course for Perno in terms of finish, and he's had several years well below .500. Meanwhile Danny Hall has never had a losing season in 20 years at Tech.

Not a lot of upsets today, but those that did occur were big ones.

ACC (Durham NC) - 8 teams qualify, so BC, Maryland, Wake and the host Blue Devils are done for the year. 6-seed Va Tech knocked off 3-seed and #5-ranked Virginia 10-1 as Joe Mantiply scattered 7 H & 4 BB in a Lackey-esque 7 innings. The Hokies settled it with a 6-run 2nd inning. 7-seed GA Tech followed that up with a 4-3 win over 2-seed and #7 Florida St, as the Wreck got back-to-back solo shots from A.J. Murray and Mott Hyde in the top of the 9th after the Noles had taken a 3-2 lead in the last of the 8th. 4-seed and #10 NC State isn't out of the woods yet, as they lead 5-seed and #20 Clemson just 2-1 in the 6th. Top seed UNC plays 8-seed Miami tomorrow.

SEC (Hoover AL) - TAMU wasn't satisfied with beating the Gators yesterday, so they had to shut out the #1 team in the land, blanking top-seed Vanderbilt (26-3, 48-7) 5-0. Parker Ray went 8 IP with 3 H, 3 BB & 3 Ks. Cole Lankford, Hunter Melton & Troy Stein all went yard with solo shots for the Aggies. 2-seed and #2 LSU (23-7, 48-8) beat 7-seed Bama 3-0 behind Cody Glenn's 7 solid innings (5 H, 0 BB, 2 K). Tide starter Charley Sullivan allowed all 3 Tiger runs in the 1st, but held them scoreless over their final 7 innings. 3-seed and #18 Arkansas (18-11, 35-19) needed 10 innings to edge 6-seed and #21 Ole Miss 2-1, as Brian Anderson doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. Barrett Astin went 8 IP with 5 H, 1 BB and 4 Ks. 4-seed and #13 Miss St has a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning over 4-seed and #14 South Carolina (17-12, 39-16).

Big East (Clearwater FL) - 8-seed UConn (9-15, 30-26) is locked in a battle with top seed and #9 Louisville (20-4, 46-10), tied 2-2 in the 12th. But the Huskies just went ahead on a 2-out RBI single up the middle by Billy Ferriter. WIth 2 on and 2 outs, Nick Burdi gets a huge whiff for the Cards to end the inning.

EDIT - UConn holds on for the upset as the Cardinals' 16-game winning streak, which was the longest active streak in the nation, comes to an end. David Mahoney gets the win (2.1 perfect relief innings) and Pat Butler racks the save (retiring both batters faced on grounders). Sophomore RHP Carson Cross was a stud, pitching into the 10th and yielding 7 hits with 3 Ks and no walks. Louisville gets the loser of Rutgers/USF in an elimination game tomorrow at 5 pm. The Huskies will get the winner at 8 pm.

EDIT - D1baseball.com, normally the primary go-to spot for continuous scores & updates, is down. They're having server issues according to their Twitter feed. Lousy timing obviously.

In the ACC, NC State held on for a 6-3 win over Clemson. In the AE, Binghamton shut out Albany 9-0. And in the SEC, Miss St. went on to a 5-3 win over South Carolina.

Atlantic 10 (Charlotte NC) - It's a 7-team field, with top seed St. Louis getting a bye. All high seeds won today: #2 Charlotte over #7 Richmond 6-5, #3 URI over #6 LaSalle 5-2, and #4 Xavier over #5 GW 8-2. The nightcap was a loser's bracket match with Richmond eliminating LaSalle 7-2. Tomorrow's early games pit St. Louis-Xavier and Charlotte-URI. The losers then face Richmond and GW respectively.

Freshman pitcher got touched up for 6 runs on 10 hits in 4 innings. Big stage, on the road, didn't deliver.  Now that top-8 national seed starts to look a bit shaky for the 'Hoos.

They're rebounding nicely today, up on GT 7-2 in the 6th. They just got a sweet line-out DP as the Jackets continue to be frustrated. LHP Scott Silverstein has held them in check. It's on NESN, FYI.

I guess d1baseball.com's web hosts are being royal pricks. However through the good graces of Kendall Rogers at PerfectGame.org, they were able to set up two temporary pages to get them through the weekend:

Current day's scores

Conference brackets, seeds & results

Their web hosts won't even let them set up redirect pages, so bookmark and spread the word on these links, which should be up through the conclusion of conference tournaments.

SEC (Hoover AL) - 6-seed and #21 Ole Miss lost to 7-seed Bama 7-5 in 10 innings today as Tucker Hawley tossed 3 shutout relief innings to earn the win and Mikey White singled home Ben Moore and Danny Cujcen in the top of the 10th. That eliminates the Rebels. Meanwhile Vandy's walking a thin line right now. tied with SC 3-3 with the Gamecocks batting in the top of the 8th and a man on.

A-10 (Charlotte NC) - 4-seed Xavier beat 1-seed St. Louis 7-6 this morning, and 2-seed Charlotte just beat 3-seed URI 5-2. The Musketeers scored the tying run on a Mark Elwell solo shot to lead off the 8th, and went ahead on an unearned run in the 9th. The 49ers got a complete game from senior southpaw John Hamilton (9 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 5 Ks). That sets up the evening elimination games with St. Louis facing 7-seed Richmond at 5 pm and URI playing 5-seed GW at 8 pm. Xavier & Charlotte meet in the winner's bracket tomorrow at noon.

Big East (Clearwater FL) - 7-seed Notre Dame just knocked off 3-seed and #29 Pitt 5-3. Earlier 2-seed Seton Hall eliminated 6-seed St. John's 7-2. Coming up: Top seed Louisville and 5-seed Rutgers in an elimination game at 5 pm, and 8-seed UConn vs 4-seed USF at 8 pm.

Big Ten (Minneapolis MN) - The started play yesterday at Target Field after the Sox left town, with the host & 4-seed Gophers beating 5-seed Illinois  3-2 and 3-seed Nebraska beating 6-seed Michigan 11-2. In a loser's bracket game, the Illini just eliminated the Wolverines 3-2. The Huskers and 2-seed Ohio State get underway shortly, followed by the Gophers and top seed Indiana.

Vandy & the Gamecocks are heading to the bottom of the 9th, still tied 3-3 with the Commodores coming up.

Big South (Lynchburg VA) - 3-seed High Point and 8-seed Charleston Southern were eliminated yesterday. 7-seed Longwood leads 6-seed Gardner-Webb in an elimination game, 6-3 in the 6th. Later on either host & 5-seed Liberty or 4-seed Radford will be eliminated. 1-seed Campbell and 2-seed Coastal Carolina, both 2-0 in tournament play, await the winners tomorrow.

CAA (Harrisonburg VA) - 4-seed Towson edged 5-seed Northeastern 9-8 yesterday. 3-seed Delaware began play today with 9-6 loss to host and 6-seed James Madison. The NU Huskies then eliminated the Blue Hens with a 7-6 win this afternoon. 1-seed NC-Wilmington leads Towson 7-5 in the 5th right now. Next it's JMU vs 2-seed Richmond. The 5th and final match of the day pits Northeastern against the lower-seed among the losers of the two preceding games.

C-USA (Houston TX) - It's a pool set-up with 4 teams apiece. After all the favorites won yesterday (1 Rice, 2 S. Miss and 4 Memphis) over 5 UCF, 7 Tulane and 8 UAB, we get our first upset today as the host and 6-seed Houston Cougars beat 3-seed East Carolina 9-4. Memphis leads UAB 4-0 in the 3rd, while Rice & UCF play later tonight.

MAC (Avon OH) - 3-seed Northern Illinois was eliminated after losses to 6-seed Bowling Green (6-4) and 2-seed Buffalo (13-0). In a loser's bracket game, 5-seed Miami OH and 8-seed Central Michigan are in a rain delay knotted at 5 in the 6th. Also scheduled today are a pair of winner's bracket games: top seed Kent vs 4-seed Ball State, and BGU vs 7-seed Toledo.

Vandy with the top of the order in the last of the 10th, and they get a single from 2B Tony Kemp to lead things off. Still a 3-3 tie with SC.

Missouri Valley (Normal IL) - Four teams are out (3 Creighton, 4 Missouri St, 7 Southern IL and 8 Bradley), leaving two teams with a loss (2 Wichita St and 5 Evansville, both winners today in elimination games) and two unbeatens (1 Illinois St and 6 Indiana St). The Shockers & Hoosiers are just underway, and the Aces & Redbirds play later tonight.

Mountain West (Fresno CA) - Six teams qualify for the tourney, and 6-seed Air Force is already done after losses to 3-seed San Diego St (15-6) and the 4-seed hosts Fresno St (6-4). Fresno previously lost to 5-seed Nevada yesterday 4-3. Coming up: 2-seed UNLV vs the Aztecs, and top seed New Mexico vs the Wolfpack.

Northeast (Lakewood NJ) - Like the America East, just 4 teams in this round-robin setup. Top seed Bryant opened things today with a 7-2 loss to 4-seed Long Island. 2-seed Monmouth leads 3-seed Sacred Heart 1-0 in the 2nd.

SC brought in reliever Pat Sullivan, who gave up another hit to Xavier Turner, a GB single to RF that sent Kemp to 3rd. After another pitching change to Tyler Webb, Turner took second on defensive indifference. Webb managed to get Yaz Jr. (Carl's grandson Mike) on a K, and then intentionally walked Vandy's cleanup hitter Connor Harrell to load the bases. That set the stage for Conrad Gregor's walk-off RBI single to right.

#1 Vandy survives and advances. The #14 Gamecocks are eliminated and await their NCAA seeding.

On the heels of their upset extra-innings loss to UConn last night, Big East top seed and #9 Louisville is in major trouble right now, trailing 5-seed Rutgers 6-0 with the Knights batting in the last of the 5th.

EDIT - Make it 8-0, as Rutgers RHP Charlie Law has 9 Ks through 7 innings. He's fanned 5 of the last 6 Cardinal batters.

EDIT - It's a 9-1 final for the Knights, who improve to 27-29. The 46-12 Cardinals await the NCAAs, and this two-game performance may well drop them to a 4-seed in the regionals.

The 3-seed and #18 Razorbacks knock off 2-seed and #2 LSU, 4-1. They get the winning run in the top of the 8th on an RBI bunt single by Tyler Spoon, then score 2 more in the 9th. Ryne Stanek worked 8 solid innings (6 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K), and Colby Suggs tossed a perfect 9th for the save.

5-seed and #13 Miss St has a 1-0 lead on 9-seed Texas A&M in the 1st.

Big Ten (Minneapolis MN) - All the seeds have held so far. 2-Ohio St got a bases-loaded walk in the last of the 9th to beat 3-Nebraska by a 3-2 final. Big 12 (Oklahoma City OK) - 4-seed and #25 Oklahoma beat 5-seed Baylor 2-0 on an absolute gem by Jonathan Gray (9 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 12 Ks). WAC (Grand Prairie TX) - It's an 8-team two-pool setup. 4-seed TX-San Antonio & top seed Cal-Bakersfield are both 2-0 after yesterday's games, while 8-seed San Jose St & 5-seed Sacramento St dropped to 0-2. 3-seed Texas St and 2-seed TX-Arlington can both move to 2-0 with wins today vs 7-seed Dallas Baptist and 6-seed New Mexico St respectively. Bakersfield & UTSA also square off.

West Coast (Stockton CA) - Just 4 teams involved. 4-seed San Francisco upset top seed Gonzaga 8-5, with Dons' starter Haden Hinkle improving to 9-1 on the year. 2-seed San Diego edged 3-seed BYU 9-8 on an Austin Bailey walk-off RBI single in the 10th, but the big hero for the Torreros was Dillon Haupt who clubbed a pinch-hit grand slam in the 6th.

Sun Belt (Lafayette LA) - Downpours limited yesterday's action to a pair of elimination games. 8-seed Arkansas St ousted 5-seed W. Kentucky 10-4 behind a 12-hit offense and 3 Hilltopper errors. Junior RH Bradley Wallace got the win for the Red Wolves, whiffing 7 while allowing 1 ER over the first 6 innings before getting into trouble in the 7th. 6-seed Florida International sent 7-seed AR-Little Rock packing 4-3 behind a pair of 2-run jacks by freshman Edwin Rios. The Panthers survived a bi-polar outing by junior Tyler Alexander, who whiffed 10 and limited the Trojans to just 2 hits over 5.2 innings -- but also issued 9 (nine) walks while throwing just 60 of 122 pitches for strikes.

Summit (Rochester MI) - In a 4-team setup, top seed S. Dakota St fell to 4-seed W. Illinois 4-2. Aaron Michel got the win (8 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 1 K), and the Leathernecks plated a pair of unearned runs in the 7th to break a 2-2 tie. 3-seed N. Dakota St and 2-seed Oakland square off at noon, and the Jackrabbits will play the loser at 3:30 pm in an elimination game.

Southland (Sugar Land TX) - 7-seed C. Arkansas eliminated 6-seed Stephen F. Austin 7-3, and 5-seed Lamar did the same to 8-seed McNeese St 10-3. The top two seeds lost yesterday. 3-seed Oral Roberts beat 2-seed TxA&M-Corpus Christi 6-1, as righty Drew Bowen took a no-hitter into the 7th and whiffed 8. Later, 4-seed SE Louisiana knocked off 1-seed Sam Houston St 5-3, as Jameson Fisher and Sam Roberson each drove in a pair in a 5-run 3rd inning for the Lions. ORU and SELA have won both their games, and await the winners of today's elimination matches.

Southern (Greenville SC) - Tough day for 2-seed College of Charleston at Fluor Field (home of the Drive). They spent the morning losing 2-0 to 7-seed GA Southern. 3-seed Elon (who lost 10-1 to 6-seed Furman) then eliminated the Chanticleers with an 18-8 afternoon thrashing. 8-seed Samford was also ousted, 2-1 by 5-seed App St. despite a complete game effort from C.K. Irby (2 unearned runs on 5 H, 0 BB and 5 Ks). Game of the day there was 4-seed Citadel knocking off top seed Western Carolina 12-11. The Catamounts lead the nation in HRs and clubbed three yesterday, including a grand slam by SoCon player of the year Tyler White -- and still lost. The Bulldogs got a 3-run shot from Tyler Griffin, his 4th in 6 games since returning from a broken foot that cost him 18 games. Two WCU errors proved costly, and only 4 of the 8 runs charged to starter Jordan Smith in his 4.2 innings were earned.

Absolutely insane game. Combined, the teams made only one error and hit just two home runs. They tied the Division I record for most hit batters in a game at 13.

Holy shit. Would love to see tape of that one.

And then JMU had to run right back out there and play Northeastern. It didn't end well for the Dukes after a 5-run 5th for the Huskies broke open a 4-3 ballgame. JMU pitching allows 23 baserunners (14 H, 7 BB, 2 HB). They join Delaware in the elimination pile.

A-10 (Charlotte NC) - 5-seed GW eliminates 3-seed URI 5-4. The Rams had taken a 2-1 lead in the 6th, but GW answered with a Derek Brown 2-run HR in the 7th. URI went back up 4-3 in the top of the 9th on a walk and 4 singles, the last of which resulted in Pat Quinn getting thrown out at home by GW right fielder Tyler McCarthy as he tried to score from second. The Colonials' rally in the bottom half started with Matt Murakami reaching on an error by Rhody freshman SS Tim Caputo. Then came an SB, a walk, and a pinch-single by Nolan Lodden to load the bases with 1 out. Bobby Dean walked in the tying run, prompting Jim Foster to call for soph RHRP Brendan Doonan. But Xavier Parkmond grounded one deep to the shortstop hole for an infield hit that scored the game-winner.

I doubt the jubilant Colonials are still savoring that victory, as they're now getting clobbered by top seed St. Louis 9-1 with GW batting in the top of the 3rd. In between those games, 2-seed Charlotte handed 4-seed Xavier its first tournament loss, 12-3. The Musketeers will face the GW-StL winner tonight at 7 pm.

America East (Lowell MA) - Binghamton won the suspended game over Maine, 10-2. The Black Bears and Stony Brook are now scoreless in the 4th. Whoever wins will have to beat Binghamton tonight and tomorrow night.

Apologies if I missed the update:

USM and Millsaps went 10, with Southern Maine scoring in the top of the 10th and holding on for the 2-1 win.  If my understanding is right, the final eight are a double-elimination format so Millsaps is still alive.

You missed no updates, and you're correct on the D-III championship being double-elimination. USM will play Linfield (OR), 8-6 winners over Ithaca (NY), tomorrow at 5:30 pm EDT. Millsaps & Ithaca play at 11 am. Manchester (IN) & WI-Stevens Point are just underway, and Kean (NJ) & Webster (MO) play at 9:15 pm.

Missouri Valley (Normal IL) - Top seed Illinois St eliminated Evansville 5-3, and 2-seed Wichita St handed 6-seed Indiana St its first loss 5-0 behind Kris Gardner's complete game shutout (7 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks). It's just his 3rd win in 9 decisions. They played a loser's bracket rematch this afternoon, and the Shockers prevailed again 5-4 with all their runs coming in the bottom of the 6th. The Sycamores left 12 runners on base. Wichita moves on to face the unbeaten Redbirds for the championship tomorrow at 8 pm.

MAC (Avon OH) - A lot of catching up after yesterday's rain. 5-seed Miami OH edged 8-seed Central Michigan 6-5 in 10 innings, eliminating the Chippewas. Following a Chad Sedio lead-off single and stolen base, a bunt moved him to 3rd before a Nate Bowles pinch-hit single drove him in with the winner. 4-seed Ball St beat top seed Kent St 3-1 with T.J. Weir going the distance (9 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 7 Ks). And 6-seed Bowling Green remained unbeaten, knocking off 7-seed Toledo 4-3. Mike Frank tossed a complete game (9 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 Ks), and the Falcons scored the unearned winning run on an error by Rockets SS Nate Langhals with 2 out in the bottom of the 8th. Kent & Miami are now in a loser's bracket match with the Golden Flashes up 7-0 in the 6th. Later on it's Buffalo & Toledo in another elimination game.

Mountain West (Fresno CA) - Fresno eliminated 5-seed Air Force, leaving just the top 4 seeds in play. The 4-seed Bulldogs are underway again vs 3-seed San Diego St, and later it'll be top seed New Mexico vs 2-seed UNLV.

Ohio Valley (Jackson TN) - 6-seed SE Missouri bounced 3-seed Belmont from the brackets today, 2-1. The Bruins averted a shutout with a run in the 9th, but their rally fell short as they stranded the tying & lead runners on. The Redhawks were later eliminated themselves, dropping a 12-9 slugfest to 5-seed Eastern Kentucky. Each side tallied 18 hits, but SEMSU stranded 13 to the Colonels' 6. EKU had a 9-0 lead through 4 innings. The Redhawks & Bruins join 4-seed Jacksonville (AL) State on the sidelines, leaving EKU, 1-seed Tennessee Tech, and 2-seed & #26-ranked Austin Peay to contend for the crown. The unbeaten Golden Eagles and Governors square off tonight at 8 pm.

Southland (Sugar Land TX) - An eyebrow-raising start to the day as the top two seeds get sent home while both are held to a single run. 7 -seed Central Arkansas blew out 2-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 8-1. It was scoreless until the top of the 7th, when the Bears scored all 8 of their runs, knocking out starter Matt Danton and cycling through 3 relievers. They sent 11 men to the plate, with the big blow a grand slam by 5'8" OF Jonathan Davis. Bryce Biggerstaff went the distance for the win (9 IP, 0 ER, 9 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks). In the next game, 5-seed Lamar dispatched top seed Sam Houston State, 3-1. This one was all about Jonathan Dziedzic, as he spun a 1-hitter marred by an unearned run (9 IP, 2 BB, 5 Ks). The Cardinals also benefited from 4 SHSU errors.

UCA is back in action against 3-seed Oral Roberts. The Titans had a 4-0 lead until the bottom of the 5th when the Bears put up a 3-spot. They added single runs in the 6th & 7th to take a 5-4 lead, but ORU just tied it in the top of the 8th on a Joey Migliaccio RBI single. Later on Lamar will also play its second game of the day, taking on 4-seed SE Louisiana at ~8:30 pm.

Atlantic Sun (DeLand FL) - 6-seed Lipscomb eliminated 2-seed FGCU 3-2, hanging on for the win after the game was suspended yesterday with a 3-0 lead in the 2nd. In fact, the Eagles plated their pair in the bottom half, and the teams played scoreless baseball the rest of the way. Next, 4-seed East Tennessee took top seed and #23 Mercer into extra innings tied at 4, and a 3-run 10th earned the Bucs the upset. It took a walk, 3 singles, a wild pitch and an error to drop the Bears into the loser's bracket, where they'll play 8-seed SC Upstate later tonight. But they'll have to wait until 3-seed North Florida and 7-seed Kennesaw St finish playing. They're in the 12th inning right now, tied 7-7.

ACC (Durham NC) - 6-seed VA Tech knocks off 7-seed GA Tech 3-2 to clinch a spot in the title game with a 3-0 tourney record while the Jackets drop to 1-2. The Hokies broke a 2-2 tie in the last of the 7th on a single, bunt, single & sac fly. Earlier 4-seed NC State handled 8-seed Miami 7-1, dropping the Canes to 0-3. The Wolfpack improve to 2-0 in their pool, and they'll face top seed UNC tomorrow at 7 pm. The Heels are trailing 5-seed Clemson 5-2 right now in the bottom of the 7th.

Big Ten (Minneapolis MN) - Eat or be eaten is a repeating theme of these tournaments. The host 4-seed Gophers eliminated 5-seed Illinois 3-1. Then 3-seed Nebraska eliminated the Gophers, 7-4. That leaves the top 3 seeds in contention, and top seed Indiana is playing 2-seed Ohio St right now. The Buckeyes just took a 3-2 lead on a Troy Kuhn 2-run double to left in the top of the 5th.

Big 12 (Oklahoma City OK) - 4-seed and #25 Oklahoma shut out 8-seed Texas Tech 8-0, as Dillon Overton (5 IP), Ralph Garza Jr. (3 IP) and Kindle Ladd (1 IP) combined for the 4-hit shutout. The Sooners, now 2-0, scored 7 of their runs in the final 2 innings. Yet 12 of their 13 hits were singles. The Raiders drop to 0-2 and they're out of the title hunt. Meanwhile, 5-seed had a 9-8 lead over top seed and #17 Kansas St heading to the 9th. But the Wildcats rallied big time, putting up a 5-spot to beat the Bears 13-9. The crushing loss drops Baylor to 0-2 and they have no shot at the championship game. They'll meet TTU tomorrow at 9 am local time in a game neither team will really want to wake up for.

In an afternoon tilt, 7-seed TCU had a disastrous game in the field on the way to a 10-3 loss to 3-seed West Virginia. The Frogs tied a school record with 9 (nine) errors. I mean, holy fuck. In order to have a shot at the title, they'll need 2-seed and #12 Oklahoma St to beat the Mountaineers tomorrow, and then beat 6-seed Kansas themselves. Speaking of the Cowboys & Jayhawks, they've played 3 innings and KU has a 1-0 lead.

Big East (Clearwater FL) - Just 2 games today, as the 7 and 8 seeds (N. Dame & UConn) have confounded the experts and earned a day off as the lone unbeatens. 3-seed Pitt rallied from a 5-1 deficit against 2-seed Seton Hall to send the game to extras tied 6-6. The Panthers then won it on a Ron Sucre walk-off RBI double in the 12th. The loss eliminates the Pirates. Later, 5-seed Rutgers edged 4-seed South Florida 2-1 to oust the Bulls from the tournament. Tyler Gebler pitched a solid 8.1 innings (1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K), and Nate Roe retired the last 2 USF batters to earn the save. This sets up Pitt-Notre Dame at 10 am and Rutgers-UConn at 1 pm tomorrow. Should Pitt win, they'll play the Irish again at 5 pm. If Rutgers wins, they'll play the Huskies again at 8 pm.

Big South (Lynchburg VA) - Top seed and #24 Campbell took out 7-seed Longwood 8-6, eliminating the Lancers. 5-seed and host Liberty survives against 2-seed Coastal Carolina, but they nearly blew the 9-0 lead they carried into the last of the 6th. The Chanticleers scored a pair in that frame and 6 more in the 7th, but they'd get no closer as the Flames held on. That forced a 7-inning rematch, and this time there was no Liberty letdown once they got their 8-0 lead. Blake Fulghum somehow worked around 7 hits and 5 walks without allowing a run as the Flames advanced to tomorrow's championship game against the Camels (4 pm on ESPN3).

It's really amazing that two teams can play an incredible game like that, and then both lose later in the same day. As noted earlier, JMU spit the bit against Northeastern. Well, W&M did the same against 4-seed Towson. And they even pulled the "live by the sword, die by the sword" thing, allowing 20 runs to the Tigers after scoring 20 vs the Dukes. The final was 20-13, with Towson racking 23 hits (the Tribe had 17). The first basemen were the offensive studs. Ryan Lindermuth went 4-for-5 with a 3-run HR, 3 doubles, HBP, 3 R and 6 RBI for W&M. Brendan Butler went 3-for-5 with a 3-run HR, 2 triples, a walk, 5 R and 6 RBI. Insane.

Unlike JMU, W&M is still alive. Tomorrow at 1 pm they'll play the winner of Northeastern and NC-Wilmington, who are tied 4-4 in the 11th right now. And the winner of the W&M vs NU/NCW game will then need to beat Towson twice for the CAA title and the NCAA auto-bid.

UPDATE - Pete Castoldi singles home Mike Foster with an unearned run in the bottom of the 13th and Northeastern walks off with a 5-4 win that eliminates the Seahawks.

SEC (Hoover AL) - Top seed and national #1 Vanderbilt got a strong 7.1 innings from Tyler Beede (0 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 8 K) and 1.2 innings of perfect relief from Brian Miller (2 Ks) to eliminate 9-seed Texas A&M, 3-0. Earlier, 2-seed and national #2 LSU rallied for a pair in the top of the 9th to eliminate 7-seed Alabama, 3-2. Tigers starter Ryan Eades worked 7 solid (2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks) and Chris Cotton and Nate Fury each pitched a perfect relief inning while striking out 5 of 6 batters.

Tomorrow's semifinals pit LSU against 3-seed Arkansas at 1 pm, and Vandy vs 5-seed Miss St at 4:30 pm.

One of the wild things about college baseball is that even at the D-1 tournament level, >95% of these pitchers will never play as pros, so the coaches couldn't care less if they go all Dusty Baker on their arms. This is their moment.

I'm not saying Lawrence won't be drafted and/or signed, but there's definitely a dearth of concern over the vast majority of UCLs, rotator cuffs and flexor tendons when it gets around to late May/early June.

Speaking of college pitcher abuse, tonight's Clemson game was the longest tournament game for the Tigers since they went 14 innings against Wake Forest in 1986. In that game, Craig Gourley threw every single pitch for Clemson -- all 221 of them.

The Braves drafted him a year later. Yeah, that worked out well...
