Apparently hired a couple not Italians as assistants.

Really waiting for some minority coaches soon. I think BC should have 3 or 4 on the staff. We already let one good one go in Aaron Smith. So far we haven't even had a rumor of a candidate.

Any idea where Aaron ended up? I went to high school with him.

I'm an alum of BC, I love the school, but it's not Stanford. If you mean that we should be trying to recruit good players as part of our business plan...no shit, of course.

It's just a mistake to assume that BC can have the allure of Stanford to a potential recruit. Yes, you get a great education at BC, but it's not a Stanford education. There's not a lot of kids around Massachusetts who are dreaming to go to BC and play football and there won't be for a while unless and until a whole lot changes over there. BC's education quality isn't enough for kids (who aren't alum children) to dream about going there for academics, nor are the non hockey sports programs good enough to be a dream for athletics.

Agree it is NOT Stanford. But there is no reason it should not employ their football ops plan going forward and why they cannot within 3 years be a viable, competitive prgram again. I think they went away from thier core recruiting, marketing plan in the last 4-5 years or so. They should also make as part of their plan that they retain any New England BCS level kid who has the academics to get by admissions. Obviously they won't keep them all but they should have as a reachable goal 85% retention of those kinds of kids.

Also, not for nothin' but given Ga Tech's domination of USC yesterday, is it still unrealistic to think that BC doesn't have a shot next September? The schedule is set up for them to be competitive. They will be in camp on/about August 10th, will have a game under their belt and 2 weeks to get ready. This of course all blows up if the ACC drops a conference game into the mix on September 7th. The reason I am keying this game (besides the fact that it will be 10 miles from my house) is because it is an early test and a key showcase game for the Dazz era. USC will be good no doubt but I truly do not think they are invincible. This game will be a table setter for the season. They win this or play them real tough, an 8-4 record is not out of the question. They get blown out, they could end up 6-6 or 5-7. Happy New Year Fellas.....talk with you down the road.

How many BCS-conference programs are there that have never played in a BCS bowl game? That list has to be getting awfully short at this point, and BC is on it with no exit anywhere in sight.

I was away last week and was thinking the same thing. It will be a good barometer of the teams season.

I've got the family excited for the trip. I just need to be sure to avoid any conflicts that could pop up to interfere with a whirlwind weekend football road trip.

2013 Football schedule announced. The dates have to be firmed up but the teams and locations are a done deal:

Home
Stony Brook
Army
New Mexico State
FSU
Va Tech
Wake
NC State

Away
USC
Clemson
North Carolina
Maryland
Syracuse

Looking at that I see 7-5 and if the dominos drop, maybe 8-4. All in all not a bad slate of games and the home schedule, although not star studded, isn't bad.

I continue to find it absurd that the ACC didn't realign the divisions to maintain the old ACC and old Big East rivalries. BC should be playing Pitt and Miami every year moving forward.

I am hopeful that next year when Louisville Joins they will do something more than simply plugging Louisville in Maryland's place, because that really does shift the balance of power. The schedule becomes really tough for BC if you are suddenly playing FSU, Clemson, VT (rivalry game), and then add in Louisville.

On the other hand, not really sure anyone would want to put the gang back together and have a division with BC, Cuse, Pitt, VT, Miami, Louisville +?? .

I think they may put the old gang back together again and perhaps add FSU to the BE division after next year. That way you would have basically the pre 2000 BE in one division and the pre 2000 ACC in the other. It would make a lot of sense and they could round robin the 2 cross over games so that you play each team at least once in a 4 year cycle. BC for example would have a tough conference schedule but they could even it out with some CUSA/BE teams, Army, UMass and then add ND or on non ND years a national opponent. That would look like a pretty good schedule.

You can't add FSU to that half. Athough I am sure the old school ACC teams would love that. Clemson would be in the ACC title game 3 or 4 years out of every 5, as you'd basically have 4 of the 5 strongest programs in the conference in the BE side.

I figure more likely Wake would be the one shifted over. Keeps the Balance between halves more even, and Wake has always been the red headed step brother to the Carolina schools.

I mentioned FSU only because of the old guard ACC. I think honeslty if they flipped one, it would probably be one of the original schools that voted to bring the BE schools in back in the day....and I think that school would be Clemson. I don't think any of the Tobacco Road schools originally voted to expand and if memory serves me Ga Tech was against it too. I think that is why Clemson was placed in the Atlantic in the first place. But hey, they shouldn't complain. As tough as that division might be, it is still easier than the SEC.

2 news items, both are WTFs

1) the game vs the vaunted Aggies of New Mexico State will be ON THE ROAD, granted they wouldn't draw files to Alumni but???

Will Ron Mexico show up?

2) the game vs Army at the New Toilet in the Bronx is rumored to be OFF

I guess BC couldn't top the 12K attendance they expect for the game at NMSU

On the plus side Daz has been on the job for 8 weeks now, and BC has only lost 3 recruits, plus  2 kids who were strong BC leans.  There were 31 HC changes this offseason.  BC, Syracuse, and Georgia State are the only 3 who have failed to receive a verbal to their new recruit.  Of course the Cuse coach has been on the job less than 2 weeks, and the GSU coach has only been on the job 5 days.

Daz breaks the long drought.  Apparently BC has received a QB from a lefty QB from Ohio who was an Ohio recruit James Walsh.

That gives BC 3 QB recruits for the class, so it will be interesting to see if this drives Tim Boyle who is considered BC's top recruit to seek another school

Good call .... Eagle in Atlanta .... "First he landed a dual threat QB and now he has basically told our highest rated recruit Tim Boyle that the system is going to favor dual guys."

EagleAction.com

Tim Boyle is still committed to Boston College but the three-star signal caller is now listening to what other schools have to say.

What a joke.  Boyle goes to the high school that I went to (Xavier, Middletown, CT), and I've seen him play a few times.  He's pretty damn good, but, maybe more importantly, he was actually EXCITED about going to BC.

A point of clarification, is the frustration here with BC pushing a recruit out the door, the timing, or with the [spread] system itself? To me, it makes sense that 'daz would want dual threat QBs to run his system, but obviously the timing of this is less than ideal with just over a week until signing day.

I have no problem with spread-option systems, unlike a lot of posters here. What I do have a problem with is trading down on talent. Taking a MAC level dual threat QB and having a QB who is now getting interest from Oregon to leave is the sign of a horrible coach who cant adjust. You dont recruit for a system - you recruit the best talent you can get. If all things are equal, great; go with your preferred system. Otherwise, adjust and take the better talent.

How did the townhall meeting go today?? Any explanation for heading to Las Cruces, NM in the middle of November to a game that no one will be able to see?? How about future schedules? Upgrades to facilities? Conference realignment?, tailgating/gameday experience??.....Inquiring minds from the Left Coast want to know. Any chance they start playing Pac 12 or MWC teams on a regular basis??

I was at Town hall yesterday, one of the guys on Outsiders put up a great recap:

Thought it was pretty good, format first, then what was asked:

1) Bates welcomed, thanks for coming out spoke to enthusiasm from season ticket holders as both events sold out extremely quickly. Then said Addazio was here and will talk for a little
2) Addazio spoke, thrilled to be HC, talked about the strong roots of BC, went through all the coaches their roles & a little on their recruiting territories. Talked about his philosophy (same thing as his presser) and then opened it up for Q&A for about 30 minutes
3) Bates took questions for about an hour
4) Each table had an AD employee where we discussed other problems.

First, some people love hearing themselves talk and ask stupid questions.

Q's For Addazio:
Asked about mobile QBs:
He's clearly either heard this as a concern or reads the nexus. Said he'll fit his scheme around his players. Talked about how they have a very good QB here and his job is to build off players skills. Then talked about his idea QB having some mobility. Didn't explicitly point to but clearly referenced Boyle's coaches statement, said a mobile QB doesn't necessarily mean 5/10/20 runs but means it's an option. Above all else he wants a QB w "it", and "it" can come from very different types of QBs, Flutie vs. Ryan.

Several recruiting:
Asked about being ranked 13 of 14 in ACC recruiting:
First said don't read too much into the ratings, talked about the Pounceys being 2 stars. But we're looking for elite players who will be at BC for the right reasons (aka not purely a stepping stone to NFL). Said we're honoring all of our commits.

Number of scholarships:
Very fluid, has numbers in mind but after Spring Practice, as with any coaching change, some might realize it isn't for them

Recruiting PA & big OL:
Odd on the PA discussion but bled into philosophy on OL. Bigger doesn't mean better with OL. With speed rushers in ACC need athletic tackles. Now our guys won't be 270 but they might come in that way and grow.

Ultimately said his first job is to recruit, recruit, recruit

Asked about pass rush:
Said we will not be a bend/don't break D which made me chuckle. Pass rush can come from scheme or skill (simply lining up & beating your man). Says it will also means you're little more exposed on the back end (cover 1 versus cover 2).

Bates was more absorbing info than answering Qs:
On tailgating:
Almost impossible to get on campus, set up tailgate, tailgate, pack up and get into stadium on time. Funny, talked about how tailgating was main reason to go to BC games last couple of years
Ridiculous shea rules that make no sense: no reentry, waiting 30 minutes, no bringing drinks on/off
One
said, "something I'm more concerned with is more hours = more drunks"
and referred to 30s as suitcases

Gameday:
Inaccessibility to campus was huge. How does a family get to BC if they can't take public transportation?

In stadium:
Bathrooms in upper deck
filling in corners (Bates talked about demand versus building)
someone wants to make the whalepants area more exclusive with ushers, concession people (wanted to yell DOWN IN FRONT!)

Overall:
6 home games will not happen again
Thought of trying to avoid Labor Day weekend games
Community outreach, sidewalk alums -was asked by NU alum (could've been nospace)

Dumb Qs:
longer tailgating hours = more drunks
bc doesn't admit all legacy -wtf
"fireworks that don't go boom" (that is a quote, apparently there was no accompanying sound with the fireworks and it was due to a noise issue)
apparently the band songs suck and the band geeks don't like playing them
when are we allowing visiting bands in?

here is my addition:Daz is the Anti-Spaz, 100%, the only thing he and Coach
Sadface have in common is vowel at end of name. Charismatic, passionate, driven.. trying to get what they can for this years recruits since we're handicaped with the Spaz 15, but really working on next years class. guy beside me was the one who asked about recruiting rankings (Daz basicly said the stars don't mean shit, Pouncy bros at UF were 2* now all pros) and Stadium expansion (BB:not until there is a waiting list and a deep one) Many good questions of both.. and like it was said, some people just wanted to hear them selves talk (
 from West Rox)

Staffer sitting next to me was O'Neil from Ticket office, Good Guy! I wasn't able to ask my question to Bates, but brought up in round table about Game dday parking for $40/50 on St Johns, kicking back $10 to Brighton charity, no reason why we are held hostage by people who move here when the school has been here for 100 years. He said that everything about the game day experience in up for discussion including Beer and Wine in Stands

as I told one of the boys who wasn't at meeting after the hoop game, I felt 100% better about the direction of the program at 3:30 yesterday then I did at 9:30

Xavier-Middletown quarterback Tim Boyle committed to the UConn football program on Sunday, deciding against playing for Boston College in the fall.

"I have nothing but respect for the new coaching staff [at Boston College]," Boyle said Sunday shortly after arriving home from UConn. "They did a great job recruiting me. But as we all know the circumstances there don't really fit me. I wanted to keep my options open and UConn was always in my top three. I've always loved UConn. They've always been great to me. Coach (Paul) Pasqualoni has done a great job recruiting me and (quarterbacks coach Shane) Day visiting me, being honest and staying true to me — and UConn gave me the best opportunity."

C.W. Baker High School running back Tyler Rouse will commit to the Boston College football program tomorrow, according to his high school. The Baldwinsville, New York native will sign a National Letter of Intent during a ceremony tomorrow at 2:30 PM Eastern.

Rouse, the New York State Gatorade Player of the Year, was being recruited by both Boston College and another ACC school according to his HS head coach Carl Sanfilippo. He reportedly had interest from Buffalo, Connecticut, Syracuse and Temple. If BC hadn't offered, Rouse was prepared to attend prep school for a year over accepting a scholarship at an FCS school.
"He isn't an imposing figure. He stands just 5 feet, 8 inches and is about 205 pounds. Under long sleeve clothing it's impossible to tell that he overpowers defenders on the field."

"He does his damage on the second level. While his speed is exceptional - he ran a 4.46 40-yard dash - he takes most of his carries between the tackles, rarely settling for edges. After he bursts through the defensive line, he can either overpower linebackers and defensive backs, or pull off devastating cuts to get around opposing defenders."

“Syracuse called and said they couldn’t get over my size and they probably couldn’t really keep recruiting me,” Rouse said. “So, therefore, I didn’t end up going to the camp because I felt that I was unwanted and there was no need to go.”

Despite totaling nearly 3,000 yards on the ground and 45 touchdowns during his senior season, Rouse had virtually no offers until last week. His Scout.com page is barren, his Rivals.com and ESPNU pages nonexisten. In a new age of recruiting, fueled by the Internet and television, there’s almost no evidence of the running back who rewrote the Central New York record books and put up unmatched numbers this season.

With two days remaining until National Signing Day, Rouse, New York’s Gatorade Player of the Year, remains undecided on his college future. Despite being one of the best to ever play in Central New York, Syracuse hasn’t made an offer. He had almost no interest from major conference schools until the past two weekends, when he traveled to a pair of undisclosed schools, including one in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Guys get missed for many reasons. I do wonder how a guy who put up the numbers he did in large NY league, doenst have more info out on him. On the whole though, if the reason others schools arent touching him because he's too short, then I'd consider that to be a mistake. Running backs are getting smaller and short and thick backs have been very successful in the NFL recently.

I follow Syracuse recruiting very closely and Rouse, given where he is from, was always a topic of conversation.  It isn't so much an issue of Rouse being overlooked than it is that he doesn't project well as a FBS level running back, given his size and physical running style.  There is also some concern about his high school usage.  He had upwards of 600 carries the last 3 years, played on defense and even served as the school's punter.  The kid never left the field and has sustained at least 1 big concussion in his high school career.

Syracuse and Buffalo both took looks at him and passed. Clearly Addazio saw something in him and wants him.  That's the cool thing about recruiting - it only takes one coach to see something in you and give you a chance.  I wish him the best and am glad he'll get a shot to prove what he can do.

Well what Addazio saw was a body.   I doubt the BC staff is jumping up and down and thinking they somehow stole someone.  Rather they know the offense he wants to run is going to require bodes, and BC doesn't have enough bodies at RB.  This kid while almost certainly nothing special might be able to function as one of those bodies.  Last year they ended up having to play Dave Dudek at RB, and he was a kid who didn't even play the position in HS, but they simply didn't have enough bodies to go around, and that was with a team that rarely ran the ball.   Next year they want to run a lot.

There is a reason why they tried to offer everyone with a pulse in the state of Florida before working their way down to him, so they know what they are getting.

Reminds me of the Stacey Bedell situation last year.  Kid from NY  State, put up silly numbers in HS, but no one wanted him.   BC evaluated him late , and decided not to bother. I guess he finally ended up at UMass.   Funny thing is a month later they had to pull George Craan in because they were desperate for a body at the position

He very well many not project well - I've never seen him play; my only point is that the idea that hes some how too small is a pretty poor reason to pass. Generally, my main point is that the idea that RBs should be 5'11 or 6' seems completely silly to me - there are a lot of advantages to being shorter and thick. A very similar thing happened to Ray Rice out of high school 7-8 years ago. I can certainly understand the high school usage point - a lot of touches early on generally does not bode well for future health.

Rice had offers from Syracuse and Penn St. so he wasn't completely overlooked/  the pSU offer may have gone away at some point

I don't expect much out of Rouse,  but maybe BC gets lucky.

Face it, BC is going to need a lot of luck to get out of the mess they have dug themselves (and this class hurts a lot)..  They are going to need 8-12 kids in this class to really pan out with maybe 3 of them being huge surprises who develop into all conference (not first team but recognition) types of players.

He might not amount to anything; but for a guy they get a day or two before LOI day, its a pretty nice get - hell see the field well before George Craan will. Other than that I agree - after the 2013 season, they have a serious talent deficiency that will take a few years to come back from. Gene and Spaz tanked the program for 3-4 years; something that back in 2008 was unthinkable.

Unless I missed it BC got 15 kids but no OL in the class. They grabbed a couple of 3stars it looks like and overall not a horrible class but clearly some deficiencies, especially in the O line. It is a work in progress. I guess we can give Dazz a pass to a degree on this class in that he was dealing with the Spaz after shocks, but I think next year will be a good barometer of just how good of a recruiter he is.
