BC's class ranked #87 in the Rivals ranking.  I don't put a ton of stock in recruiting rankings in general, but by that measure BC had the worst recruiting class of any major conference team.  And got beaten out by the likes of Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas State, Western Kentucky, Bowling Green, and UConn.

Could have been worse.......could have been #120....BC will win 8 games and beat Southern Miss in the Armed Forces Bowl....and Master Bates will give Dazz a 3 year extension in an effort to increase the upward mobility of the program.....yikes, we are a trainwreck aren't we??

Unless I missed it BC got 15 kids but no OL in the class. They grabbed a couple of 3stars it looks like and overall not a horrible class but clearly some deficiencies, especially in the O line. It is a work in progress. I guess we can give Dazz a pass to a degree on this class in that he was dealing with the Spaz after shocks, but I think next year will be a good barometer of just how good of a recruiter he is.

It is a horrible class.   It is a class that is worse today than it was Dec 4th when Daz was hired, and that is almost unthinkable for a coaching change. I do think there will be some good players in the class, but the losses hurt bad.

In terms of OL.  BC did bring in a 6th year player from Florida who was once a highly rated player, but who knows what is left after having a blown ACL, a torn pectoral muscle, and sporadic games missed because of a bad back.  I personally have no expectations from him, but I guess you never now Player is Matt Patchan

counting this new player they have 16 OL under scholarship for next year, and only 3 will be seniors.   So there are a lot of bodies there,  and you need to win or lose with those guys, as for the most part OL take 2 years

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by unthinkable for a coaching change. Classes almost always get worse after them, with some unique exceptions. Just because your boy Spaz brought in a shit class and has destroyed the program for 3 years, shouldnt mean youre mad at the new coach. I'm no huge Addazio fan, but at least he has a chance to be competent unlike Spaz who was a bumbling incompetent. Take it to the bank Addazio will win as many games as Spaz has won in the past 2 years with a weaker roster than last year.

he all but said in the town hall on Sat that he was handicaped by the lack of available scholarships since we are honoring the commits made to the Spaz15

He had a big group in for Jr day 2 weeks ago (when a pipe burst over the weight room at YAC, timing huh?) and was concentrating on class of '14

Yeah, that certainly matches the facts on the ground.  We just had too many awesome recruits for the spots we had available - that's obvious from the guys he beat out Ohio and Buffalo to sign with the spots that got freed up.

Well of the kids they couldn't run off

Given the quality of replacements they brought in. We should be glad for the group who stayed

Mike ... I hear ya but Adazzio was actually decent with Boyle. He didnt run him off. He knew the kid had other chances so told him to look if he thought it best. He didn't do it with kids who didnt have option.

Now ... I understand that is quite telling as to the class. As was the fact that he continually referred to the kids at the dinner as "good kids". I am starting to think he punted this year.

A good coach should never punt.  Ever.  Blaming 'the circumstances' on allowing their top rated QB recruit to walk, while pulling in garbage to replace him is pathetic.
'
BC is small time and will continue to be as long as the administration and the board allows/wants it to be.  This is regardless of whatever the fans want.

The Dazzler is pushing the biggest bunch of bullshit I've seen in a college coach in quite awhile.  Or perhaps I should say he's the most transparent coach about the bullshit he's selling.  Claiming that a fence is going up around New England is laughable and it's part of the reason why BC will never be a consistently quality team: The talent sucks up here and it's pandering to the whalepants.  He's all talk, plain and simple.

Frankly, his offensive philosophy sucks and he hasn't shown the ability to adapt to his players.  He will flame out within 3-4 years and we'll all look back and wonder why Brad Bates even interviewed this joke of a coach.

Fuck Steve Addazio.

By punt I meant wait to see who leaves the program and recruit HIS guys. It's amazing how people seem to underestimate the impact of the quiet period and how epically bad these last two years have been.

I am on the record as being disappointed in the pick. I just refuse to bang my head against the wall before the guys even coached a single game. The self loathing among BC fans is something to behold.

Moose is as diehard as they come and not a guy to be blinded by BS. Most others who went to the open house came away with the same opinion that this is going to be a hardworking staff that seems to get it.

I think the question will be what happens when they fail on a couple of big names and things get challenging. Jags seemed to throw in te towel at this point. Early momentum for the 2014 class will be key. They are already going after some significant kids and are placing a great deal of focus on the Catholic night schools.

A lot of us made fun of Schiano when he came in and said similar things but from a recruiting aspect he won some key battles and brought in some good local kids.

He didn't want Boyle. He has that right. He brought in another kid who was actually ranked higher and camped with him at Temple. His offers seem week but who knows.

I agree in the sense that the BC admin was not going to let pull offers from guys - its been true in both of the past 2 coaching transitions as well - the higher ups believe its slimy, and well, it is.

But I'm wondering where youre seeing this guy being ranked higher than Boyle, because it really isnt true. He's so good that he camped at Temple, and uhh never got an offer from them. Pretty damning evidence really.

Yeah. Boyle was a 5.7 3 star and Walsh a 5.6. I got confused because they are rated at different positions (dual threat vs. prostyle). Boyle is 25 and Walsh 22.

Yeah, I'm surprised that Walsh is that high - he didn't really have any other offers - including Addazio's Temple program. I didn't mind taking him but losing Boyle for him seems questionable at best.

Steve Addazio and his staff will win the ACC within 5 years...let's see who's right, shall we? I respect your opinion but I totally disagree with what you are saying. He is a football coach and will be successful at BC. ....and they will beat USC next September in LA. I could give a shit about this recruting class. It will be supplemented by future classes and will be coached up over the next 5 years.

As for recuiting, I don't buy into these ratings by Rivals...it is all about coaching up an athlete. If college football was totally about Rivals star rating ND would have had 4-5 titles under their belt in the last 10 years and USC would have been playing Bama for the title this year....neither one occurred. College football is all about coaching. I think Daz is a very good coach. I also think his staff are good coaches who can "coach up" kids...BC will be 8-4 next year. Count on it.

Thanks Stape, and as a professional Bull Shitter, I know one when I see one. the key thing to remember with the Spaz15 is that the Admin wasn't going to let Daz pull any offers, I think from what I read via Boyle's HS coach they were honest with him and gave him the option to still come to BC and compete for the job, despite a change in offence or look elsewhere where he would have a better chance for playing time. With the train wreck that the Yukon QBs have been in the past few years, post Dan O, I think he made a wise choice and for me, I hope he lights it up at Storrs Community College (ok that was cheap, but I couldn't say all nice things about them and Coach Blue)

Daz said that they were hitting the recruiting trail hard for 2014 class, and considering the roster, i think playing time for any top recruit could be guaranteed

BC landed a verbal from 2014 RB Marcus Outlow.

He had offers from Oregon, Alabama, Florida, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, Boston College, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and "a lot more" according to the Hartford Courant.

In December he said his parents didn't want him to decide yet and that Florida was his dream school.

Is this real life?

Edit: he just tweeted out his new highlight video: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2034963/marcus-outlow

I follow Michigan's recruiting pretty closely, and I have never heard of this kid, (I probably would've heard if we had offered). Rivals doesn't even list interest from Michigan, and certainly doesn't list offers from all of those schools mentioned.  247 only has offers from Connecticut and BC. Some kids get offers from schools and don't report it. Some kids get conditional offers. Some kids might misinterpret interest. I'm not sure how good this kid is (because I know nothing about him), but he's unranked early and Michigan has been pretty conservative with its offers. Something just doesn't sit right.

For your sake, though, I hope he's great.

The first run on the highlight video should have been the whole video.  Just loop it for 3 minutes.  Pretty much everything else is a man amongst boys just outrunning everyone all over the place.

“I’ve never been a really big UConn guy, and B.C. came to me first. That was big for me,” he said. “I’m right in UConn’s backyard and seeing them not really (pursue) me, kind of bothered me a little bit.”

UConn didn’t even get into the chase until after the Class LL state championship game at Rentschler Field in December. Prior to that, it appeared Outlow had his heart set on the University of Florida, which also offered him a scholarship.

“They were thinking about me playing possibly in my junior year, and I understand that,” Outlow said. “At Florida or Ohio State, there will be guys ahead of you that you have to compete against.”
Outlow wanted to come in and make “an instant impact.”

“B.C. offered that,” he said. “They said, ‘Here you go, this can be your team, you can be the spearhead of the class and the man (Boston College) rotates the offense around.”

“This commitment is really solid,” Outlow said. “I’ve been talking to my family, they love it and I really love it. I felt that whatever decision I made I had to be comfortable with, because I’m the one who has to live there.”

However, Outlow added he will keep his options open.

“I made the commitment of where I’m going to go and where I think my future will end up,” he said, “and I’m a man of my word.”

Two thoughts/questions:

What happened to Stony Brook? Although I think putting Villanova on the schedule is a smart move. If you are going to play an FCS school why not play an old rival and a catholic school. Makes a lot of sense. If the C7 takes off look for BC to play the Cats every year as the opener. It is good for everyone. Since they can't or won't play Holy Cross this is the next best thing. Also look for BC Villanova in hoops down the road

Second thought. The schedule was set up nicely for BC to play USC. They opened camp in early August play the FCS game Labor Day then have 2 weeks to get ready for SC. But no the ACC has drop Wake into the mix on a short week but gives the Eagles an open date the week after SC. They constantly screw them on the schedule.

Anyway that looks like a bowl eligible schedule to me. I say 8-4 still. I will stick by my USC prediction but I think I may be paying up on that one unfortunately.

For those who don't pay attention to the BC message boards, BC is bringing a flat out ton of highly regarded kids in for visits. We have no way of knowing if the Dazzler can actually pull any of them in, but it's very clear he's trying to. The recruiting effort is totally night and day from the previous regime. Again, not saying this means anything if we don't get any of them to sign, but the right effort is being made.

And he's already closed on two solid 3 stars from New England. The latest being Issac Yiadom, a WR from Worcester, who committed today.

Well ... BC picks up another recruit. Dual threat QB Darius Wade from Delaware. Kid just picked up an offer from Nebraska and was said to be due to receive an offer from Ohio State following his recent visit. Nice start to the class.

It will be interesting to see whether any of these players look elsewhere if bigger offers come along.  That said, Outlaw (RB) and Wade (QB) are legitimate offensive recruits that the staff targeted.  Nice to see them in the fold early.

My only concern is whether this is being done on the up and up.  Addazio's history at Florida terrifies me, not that there's any actual things linking him with trouble that I know of, just the fact that he went through a major powerhouse school at this point to me means that he's been exposed to how recruits actually sign.  At this point, in college athletics, it seems clear nearly everyone is dirty, but I really don't want to see BC get embroiled in some of that mess in the interests of having a better football team.

All of this is speculative unsubstantiated concern.  I guess what I don't know is, are these just above average recruits or are these like holy shit balls how the hell did BC land that kid recruits?  If we start pulling recruits we have no business getting, then I get a bit freaked out.

They arent earth shattering level guys that you wouldnt expect BC to get. Theyre guys that used to be in the top 10 or so in BCs class before the Spaz came and killed the program.

That being said, the QB is a great get and shows that the idea that BC cant get dual threats is just what it is - horseshit.

Yeah ... these are all high 3 star guys who have solid other offers but BC has been on early.  I really think Outlow is the type of player that could jump to a 4 star based on what I have read.   It looks like he was sold on chance to be "the guy" early on in his college career.  He's also a local (CT) kid.

I am no expert but Wade looks like a really good get.  Seems to be a throw first, run second kid who throws a really good ball.  He is a lefty, however, which takes some adjustment.

The other positive energy around the program is that Addazio has had a lot of success in getting many high level kids to visit.  Sure, they may not commit but the number of offers and interest out there has been very encouraging.

I will leave it to all of you as to the caliber of the class but it appears it is back on track and up to the level of former classes that BC would get. Unfortunately, you have to flush the system when you put in new coolant and high octane gas...that will take a year or two. However, I think Addazio will be very successful and still believe that the 2013 schedule presents itself, even with the crap Spaz dropped on the roster, as a 7-5 campaign, or an 8-4 season if things fall right. BC will be competing for the ACCCG again in 2-3 years.

Here is my question....from a pure coaching perspective, where do you rank Dazz in the ACC overall, and particuarly in the ACC Atlantic?  I would say he is #2 or # 3 and overall in the top half of ACC football coaches. His defensive coaching staff is awesome.   Point is, if he gets 3 stars in the program and coaches them up, no reason BC cannot be in the hunt for the ACCCG most years.

BC will beat USC.....I'm drinkin' the Kool Aid.

You have to stop with the USC stuff.  USC is going to put it on the Eagles by 20+ points.  They are completely stacked with talent, and have improved their coaching staff significantly.

I am convinced it will still be a game in the 4th quarter. Next year will be key for BC to keep recruiting momentum. If they can win 7+ games they will have a great class with some late surprises.

As for game coaching the real unknown is Day. Chip Kelley thinks highly of him and there has always been a positive buzz. If Day is the real deal then Addazzio can let him call the offense while dictating tempo, 4th down calls, etc.

Just saw that Harold Landry DL commit was just offered by South Carolina. Landry reiterated his commitment to BC. Clemson has also offered. Looks like this will be a theme and the reason why I think on field success will be important this year.

So ... I feel like I can get back to it. Addazio continues to impress by picking up two more recruits despite the Spring Game being cancelled, Jon Baker, a local 3 Star online man and Cohee, a local LB with some nice offers.

So here we are in April and BC already has 7 recruits with impressive offer lists and 3 star averages. One of their unrated kids (Landry) has picked up offers from Clemson, South Carolina and NC State after his commitment. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Outlow at 4 stars before all is said an done.

The feeling around the program right now is amazing and the recruiting continues.

Hopefully these kids actually sign.  There is a long way to go until February and no matter how good Addazio is, this is going to be a rough year because of what he inherited.

Absolutely. I've said it over and over. They need to win 6-7 games this year to hold the class. Players like Outlow, Landry and the QB are going to have lots of solid offers. They need to show the ship has been righted.

I am actually confident the team will have a decent year this year. Chase looks good and the OL had a real coach.

Next year will be tough.

What Daz is doing is impressive and I can't say anything except great things about it. BC hasn't recruited like this in my lifetime as a fan. This class is stronger than anything TOB ever brought in, and Daz clearly has a blueprint to put talent on the field.

The only thing I've heard I haven't liked is the idea of run 1st down, run second down, pass third down (which to be fair he has said himself in interviews to a degree and Chase has also said) that implies a real rigidity to his offensive system (which I have no idea why this is the case) but they win games, I don't care how they do it, even if I think his idea of balance is to run a hell of a lot more than I'd prefer.

That's not what they've said about this year. They've said that they need to run more to establish the pass. As bad as Spaz was they still ran the ball too much. The issue wasn't the ratio it was the play selection. Also, when you read the interviews with players like Amidon you get the sense that we will see more screens, short routes, etc. Day is the X factor here. I don't think you can look to Addazzios past and assume anything.

Not to mention the running game on his past teams were arguably the strongest areas of the team, what with Tebow and his inability to throw a 10 yard pass, the Pierce guy playing for the Ravens and, of course, Montel last year.

DS -- I watched his 10 minute interview after the spring practice plus a couple with Chase - they're all saying there is going to be a lot more running. Again, I'm not going to critique something I haven't seen at all, I just don't think BC from a talent level is going to be able to win with the power run game for at least 3 seasons. Maybe after a couple recruiting classes they can. But your overall point holds, Day is going to be making these decisions. I just think there's a pretty rigid philosophy in place regardless of what Daz has said about being flexible. I hope Im wrong.

So you have a senior QB who has started since his freshman season and you're not going to throw the ball?

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

SA: What I know right now is work ethic. What I know
right now is attitude. I still don’t know that I know who’s capable of
what on the football field, so you’ve got to get the pads on. No matter
what we do, where we head, the starting point is going to be a two-back,
one-back, zone-power counter concept, a real strong pro-style running
game, play-action pass, nakeds. That’s going to be a starting point, no
matter what direction we ultimately head.

They are going to run, no doubt about it.  However, from reading the summaries of the scrimmages and the response from Amidon below, I think it's going to be a more balanced attack and not "3 yards and a cloud of dust".  One recurring theme from the spring scrimmages is that they are installing a quick package "designed to tire out the opposing defense".  This is more like the Oregon model as opposed to Wisconsin.

Here's the Q&A involving Amidon from last week.

Does that concern you at all, that it’s going to be more geared towards the run game?

AA: No, not at all. It’s not like we’re not going
to pass, it’s just, I would say if anything, us having the run game is
going to help the pass game. I would definitely love to run the ball
more than 20 times. Last year we were averaging around 20 carries a
game, and if we could get to like 30 or something, that would help the
pass game out a lot, in my opinion.
