Agreed... but $18m for Kaepernick is nuts.

 
I've been saying this for a while but the contract negotiations for the various young QBs picked after the first round (primarily Dalton, CK and Wilson but it could impact guys like Smith and Glennon down the road) are going to be interesting.  They're all on four year deals, you really don't want to tag them at $15-17 million, you really don't want to start over so the QB's agents know that you will very likely tag them to avoid losing them in free agency (and thus sets a pretty high floor to start negotiations) so teams are going to be stuck with making a hard choice between signing a fairly young QB to pretty huge deals after year three or losing them.
 
Somebody's going to win big and somebody's going to lose big extending a QB after year 3.
