Congrats to all UConn fans and alumni. When Calhoun stepped down, I was all but certain the Huskies would spend the next decade somewhere between mediocrity and the doldrums. Man, did Kevin Ollie ever prove me wrong.

They've come a long, long way from the days of Dom Perno and a front line of Corny/McKay/Aleksinas.

Never any doubt.

Napier and Boatright are so f'n tough, mentally and physically.

I really enjoyed Emmert having to give them the trophy. F him. He had a personal vendetta against the school that fired him. He is a douche

Just great game to watch. Couple scrappy mid majors put on a show. Hope to see one of them get a chance to win a first round NCAA tourney game against a big time team - it's what March is all about.
Quoted for posterity.

Duke basketball
4 national championships

UConn basketball
4 national championships

"I'm planning to come back here in April and raise a banner," Ollie told the UConn student section on Senior Night.

I thought he was nuts.

I was nuts for doubting him.

His team would be a 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It didn't matter a lick.

"The only way you're going to have a blessing is if you believe and have faith," Ollie said after that Senior Night game against Rutgers. "I believe we're going to be back here. I'm going to say it. I believe we are going to win the national championship, and that's the only way I believe. I got faith in my team."

I got the chills

Congrats to the Uconn Huskies. They played to the best of their ability last 5 games, got great execution and foul shooting in the CG, they were coached great, as their fundementals showed. Oh and Napier is money.

Happy for Ollie that he was able to cap off this season in his hometown. And he was the best "NCAA tourney freshman" on or near the court tonight.

For the next few days I'm just going to forget the conference stuff and just enjoy this

I'd rather play in the AAC and win national championships than play in the ACC.

I mean, sure I'd like to handpick my conference, but ultimately winning national titles time and time again is better.

And hopefully we can eventually get a B1G invite so we can give one final FU to the ACC

Congratulations. You have won 2 more Championships than anyone else of late (4 to 2) and you win all the finals you appear in. Which means the preeminent basketball program in the country resides in Connecticut, blue bloods be damned.

You're the best. Well done.

I just hope they adjust the curriculum for the public speaking class at UConn to include a day where they go over "audience". For instance, when they hand you a mic on the podium of the MVP presentation in front of millions of people, you don't have to ask for their "attention".

Having said that congrats to UConn and Shebazz, just a fun team to watch. ACC just continues to suck, so regional viewing for me just lacks any thump.

Congrats to UConn on an incredible season.  Ollie is very easy to root for - and I say this as a Syracuse alum.

I wouldn't mind at all if the Celtics drafted Napier, by the way.

Some of the most improbable things from an amazing run:

1. The first game was the hardest. It took a 3-point play from Amida Brimah to get them to overtime.

As UConn's run continued, guys on St. Joe's, must have been saying, "We HAD 'em!"

2. Kentucky NEVER led in that game. It was 2-2 and 6-6, but otherwise UConn was ahead the entire time. How often are there NO lead changes in a game that's not a mismatch?

3. Kentucky missed 11 free throws last night. UConn missed 14 in the tournament -- 101-115.

4. It was so great, even Clears Cleaver was happy.  ;)

Graduated in 99 (UCONN's first championship) and got married in 04 (Something happened with the Sox I think) ... Good things happen when I'm going through a life event!  :)

Extremely pumped.  College basketball capital of the world!  Wish I was on-campus last night.

Much respect to Kevin Ollie.  What a tough situation he was put into and he has exceeded all expectations.  At first an in-term coach, convincing the guards to stay, a 20 win first season with no hope for the tournament, a national title ... all this after following a coaching legend in Jim Calhoun.  Impressive.

Well, here we are again. Another victorious college, another burning college. The kids in Storrs have gone crazy after UConn beat Kentucky Monday night and they've ripped down a lamp post and thrown it through a school building's window. There are fires, flipped cars, and people climbing things they shouldn't be climbing.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that this is a stupid thing to do.

OK, maybe not then.  Jeesh what assholes.  Why can't people just have fun?  Why does it always have to turn into destruction at some point?

Though the bon-fire might have been OK.  I remember coming out of Gampel in 99 (after watching the game there), and school officials (I think) had started a bon-fire and had wood pallets and other things ready to go.  That way people could get all crazy and burn things and it was in a controlled environment.

It's ridiculous. Winning or losing a sporting event does not give you license to destroy property or commit crimes.

CONGRATS BOYS!! Nice job. I can't see Cal lose enough.... 4 titles in the last 15 years. You are an elite hoops program, no doubt. Hope you can keep it up and the football doldrums and mid major status  of the pigskin department doesn't drag down hoops long term.

Yeah, yeah, no one cares about women's basketball, but damn, if you can't appreciate greatness ...

This UCONN team, wait program, has just won nine championships in twenty years. They just dominated a team that was 39-0. They have five perfect seasons. They just went 40-0 themselves. The best player is a sophmore. Geno is a God!

I guess you have to live in a state where the women's team is really good, to pay attention, but damn, nine championships. College basketball capital of the world!!!

All Dukies don't suck. jay Bilas:

"The question isn't whether UConn belongs with the Elites. But over the past 20 years, whether the Elites belong with UConn. Storrs Connecticut is now the unquestioned capital city of college basketball."

I want to keep the Uconn pride going, and as there's really no other appropriate place to post this for that purpose:

Uconn baseball star George Springer is making his MLB debut tonight with Houston.

Would have loved to see him come back selfishly and see if he could get himself into the lottery next year but I'll trade in DD leaving for a championship.

Boatright has to stay or we are going to be really young and raw next year.
