Didn't Murphy bring in Rakim Sanders and Josh Southern. Both guys flamed out but were 4 star recruits out of HS. If you're going to go cheap on the HC, you have to bring in a quality staff and Bates has done that.
Murphy wasn't able to recruit as Director of Basketball Ops but was said to have a good relationship with Sanders and was Southerns cousin. Dudley has tweeted some really positive things about his hiring and Murphy was the lead recruiter for the top 100 kid that URI recently brought in.

As an aside, how in hell was Josh Southern a four star recruit? Plodding is too kind a word for him.

He had an offer from Kentucky.  Not sure but had a ton of offers and a pretty blue chip recruit.

BC adding Preston Murphy from URI do its staff. Really building a nice staff around Christian. Murphy was DBO under Skinner and was just promoted to 2nd assistant at URI.

I think Murphy is a great hire for BC.

As a URI fan, losing Murphy sucks. He was a tireless recruiter who got great results considering where the program's been the last 5 years. He was very instrumental in us getting E.C. Matthews who was this year's A-10 co-rookie of the year among others. He recruited all over but developing a Michigan pipeline for us might have been his biggest impact. Getting a QB that you guys forgot was on your team in exchange for Preston is a crap trade for us.

Michigan State recruited him too. Southern was actually decent his frosh season but he ate himself into DT shape and clearly did not seem to like playing basketball very much.
The lackadaisical version of Southern is crowding out any memory of him playing well.  My fault, or more likely, my ignorance.

Looks like BC is in the final two for Jared Terrell, former OSU commit and 64th rated player in current class. URI is also in the mix. Would be a huge get for the new staff and Preston Murphy probably has a lot to so with this.

It's not overboard. BC completely overestimated the demand for last year.
Based on the number of calls I got from the ticket office from September through late February trying to get me to buy season tickets, four game packs and single game tickets, they were desperate to create demand where there was none.  I think they knew how bad things were and were trying to stop the bleeding as much as they could.

So no word on Terrell or Diallo yet but Top 100 2015 recruit Jeremy Miller (F) just de-committed.  No word on why but can you blame him?

The results for Terrell/Diallo are going to tell us a lot about this staff.  Not much competition for either of them.

Edit: Diallo just committed, maybe why Miller de-committed.

I'll let an actual BC fan start the thread for next year, but there is some news today:

http://hamptonroads.com/2014/05/odu-report-batten-lands-boston-college

Guard Dimitri Batten, Old Dominion's second-leading scorer last season, has found a new home at Boston College.
Batten confirmed via text message Tuesday that he will play for the Eagles as a graduate student next season. He played three seasons at ODU and will be eligible immediately at B.C. per an NCAA rule that allows players who graduate with eligibility remaining to transfer and play right away.
The 6-foot-3 Batten averaged 11.0 points and 4.2 rebounds and started 35 of 36 games last season, frequently as a small forward for the undersized Monarchs. He shot 38 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range.

Wildly inconsistent, but plays hard and with attitude. Two seasons ago, he led a very bad ODU team to a win over Virginia. On the other side of the ledger, he went 3-21 against Missouri St. last season.
