Pelini is from Youngstown so the allure of going home must have won out.  He had interest from the NFL as an assistant and also FBS schools wanted him as a head coach.

As best as I can tell he must have taken around 25 million from Nebraska in salary, and what they payed him to go away.

He can do whatever he wants to do with the rest of his life, and life extremely well.

He goes home, does what he loves, and doesn't have to deal with 99% of the BS.   Sounds like he is living the dream

I've listened to a number of interviews with Luck on CFB podcasts, he's a real forward thinker, and sees the big picture very clearly. At the same time he seems personable.

He's done a pretty good job at WVU, I wonder who will replace him.

The newly created position allows Luck to oversee the day-to-day operations as he brings academic and membership affairs, the eligibility center and enforcement under one umbrella.

Luck's son, Andrew, is the Indianapolis Colts' quarterback and the NCAA offices are based in Indianapolis.

He got them in the Big12 after correctly identifying the ACC and Big10, while more geographically fitting, wanted nothing to do with them. And he pushed for and succeeded in getting beer sales inside the stadium. Which has been a win/win. Revenue is up, alcohol incidents are down at Mountaineer Field. Got Marshall off the schedule.

That's not a bad legacy.

@MBVEGA: Boston College expected to announce contract extension for head football coach Steve Addazio this afternoon.

I think that means Michigan was probably snooping around for Addazio as a backup plan to Harbaugh.

So is Michigan going to wait for Harbaugh and the NFL season to end? Or are they going to hire a new AD first? Things in Ann Arbor seem very unsettled at the moment. If they get this hire wrong Urban is going to bury that program for a while.

I'm guaranteeing that Michigan will not get Harbaugh. IMO, this is a negotiating ploy to get a better deal in the NFL.

From who, Ross? I mean, if it's money, it's Miami and there was no need to drag the U of M into it at all.

Well it's interesting since Ross is essentially the T Boone Pickens of Michigan, academically and athletically, as well as the owner of the Dolphins, so there's a bit of competing priorities. Never connected that until just now, so apologies if I'm a little slow on the uptake.

Guaranteeing anything in either direction is a fool's errand. There's a lot of misinformation out there, and I'd be surprised if Harbaugh's even made a decision (I think he will notify UM before xmas one way or another). I also don't think that any UM offer will set the floor if he stays in the NFL. JH is one of the best football coaches and if he tells his agent he wants to stay in the NFL, teams that fire their coaches will pretty much unanimously make him the #1 priority. Then it becomes an issue of combining personnel control and money, and NFL teams will start a bidding war that will surpass the UM offer.

Your last sentence is why I don't think there's a chance he goes to Michigan.  NFL owners tend to have deeper pockets than donors to a school.  If Mark Davis wants him, he's going to tell Harbaugh that he'll beat any offer out there.

I almost included this in the last post, but coaching at the NCAA and NFL levels are very different. Recruiting an 18 year-old kid versus wooing a free agent couldn't be more different. I don't know if there's anything similar in the NCAA to deciding to cut bait with an NFL player who's becoming a free agent. Deciding where to spend your cap resources in the NFL has little similarity to how you hand out scholarships. In college, Jim could keep his maniacally-driven personality, and because his players would typically be less jaded, be knowingly signing-up for the JH experience, and be with him for a max period of 5 years, it would be less of a problem. That second point is key for me - Jim could surround himself with players who know what they're getting with him and share his attitude. NFL players typically don't have as much input as to where they play and they are also grown men who expect to be treated like professionals. Obviously, tactics and technique at the NFL level are much more complex.

Jim may like the challenges of the NFL, or he may enjoy the challenges of NCAA ball. We just don't know what his preference is. On top of all this, I have no doubt that Jim appreciates how badly UM needs to get back on track as a former UM QB. Now that UM is offering comparable salary to the NFL, he could justify it to himself to come back, even if just for a few years.

Second tier is rather generous.

The coaching hire will definitely happen first regardless of whether it's Harbaugh or not. Michigan would not have stayed this long in the Harbaugh sweepstakes if they didn't feel strongly about their chances to get him. I'm sure there are back up plans out there as feelers to even lower tier guys like Addazio and Cutcliffe would not have been made.

Keep in mind, that we're in a dead period for recruiting.

Ross is supposedly one of the guys funding a potential Harbaugh deal.

To provide some context, Ross has given $313 million to the University over the years. The business school is named after him as is the athletic academic center. While we do have other big shot alums that have given a lot (Charlie Munger gave $115 million recently), Ross is definitely the biggest benefactor.

Anyway, Pat Narduzzi is headed to Pittsburgh, it appears.

His old man Fred was the basketball coach and athletic director at West Virginia. So I imagine he has a lot of support.

Yep, and during his tenure at Ohio he hired John Groce and Jim Christian who were poached by Illinois and BC respectively.

Jerry Adair's home state
Bob Stoops is getting nervous, earlier he fired Jay Norvell, and now he's fired his other offensive coordinator, Josh Heupel, whose sister is married to OU President David Boren's son. Guess no one's family members are safe except for his own, and Mike Stoops is interviewing at LSU, so he might not be safe either.
