Those Lake Travis teams were special. I actually played against him when he was coaching at Eustace.

He'll be there a few years and take over A&M when they fire Sumlin.

Buffalo hired UW-Whitewater coach Lance Leipold.

106-6 in 8 seasons, with 5 D-III national titles, 6 title-game appearances, and a 7th playoff appearance this year. 4 unbeaten seasons (5 if you include this season so far). Previous experience at Nebraska.

I don't think Miami will fire Al Golden. Most of my friends who follow the program recognize its current limitations and the fact that Al had to clean up a mess. The Freshman QB looked good, so I think he will get next year to prove whether he should stay or not.

I think that's a good hire. He was OC/QB coach at Alabama for four years and won two NTs, and did well at CSU which had been in the doldrums.

He knows the SEC well enough and the SEC East is ripe for the picking.

What a terrible hire by Nebraska. Guy is 61 already. His last 5 years at Oregon State are 29-33.

Did Not see that one coming. Holy shit. I don't think age is an issue but he's an icon at Oregon St.

On the plus side he recruits California and Texas very well

On the negative side he has never taken Oregon State to a New Year's Day bowl. He is pretty average coach and if I were a Nebraska fan, alumni or booster I would be livid with this hire. He doesn't inspire a lot of confidence if you ask me.

On the other other hand, it's Oregon State...the clear second fiddle in the state to Oregon and a program that was in the absolute wilderness for 30 plus years.

I think Riley is a decent coach but this doesn't feel like the result of an especially exhaustive search.

Colorado St. did well to extract this much out of Florida. Original buyout was $7.5m, they got $5m plus a $2m guarantee game

In finalizing the deal, the University Athletic Association and Colorado State have agreed to a payment of $3 million over six years. Florida and Colorado State will also play a game in Gainesville between 2017-20 with a $2 million guarantee. McElwain has agreed to a $2 million payment over time to Colorado State

Would Nebraska fans have rather had Bielema?

No, after having thought about it, I like Riley.  He's won at a place that is very difficult to win at; he's recruited to Corvallis from across the country, he's a nice/upstanding person (the opposite of the former coach), and he's developed quarterbacks, something severely lacking in Lincoln (QB coach was a grad assistant).  It's not a splashy hire but it's got potential to succeed, especially if he brings in some solid assistants.

That Riley hire is kind of a head-scratcher. Kind of feels like Nebraska's ceiling is getting lower and lower for Osborne not to run a deep national search then out of the blue pluck a 61-year old with a middling record out of an average program.

Perfect fit. He was a great high school coach in Texas.

Just saw this hire as well. He fits them perfectly. He should be able to get some Texas talent to come to SMU and rebuild them.

Columbia head coach(and former Patriots assistant) Pete Mangurian has resigned amid allegations that he made players play through concussions.

Three years into football head coach Pete Mangurian’s tenure, it looks like some of his players have had enough.
In a letter to University President Lee Bollinger, Board of Trustees Chair Jonathan Schiller, and former Board of Trustees Chair Bill Campbell, 25 players laid out a series of allegations against Mangurian. The grievances ranged from criticism of the way Mangurian handled the relationships between younger players and upperclassmen to claims that he pressured players to play with concussions.
“Pete Mangurian has consistently denied the diagnoses of concussions,” the letter stated. “There are several players who will speak to the fact that Mangurian told them to return to practice, that they are faking their concussions, and that they are being soft if they sit out for their concussion injury.”

Was it cash offered by OSU or was he feeling some heat after the lopsided loss in the B1G title game.
Might be that he was just a west coast guy. His entire coaching resume was in the west.

It was mentioned that he wasn't happy with the admission standards at UW.  He couldnt get any of the degenerate JC transfers he wanted in.  Oregon State will have no trouble getting them in.

Lots of talk about how Wisconsin's search will coincide with Michigan's but I doubt there are many overlapping candidates. Really shocked by Andersen's departure and I'll be interested to see who they get.

Another thing about Wisconsin, Andersen ran a different offense at Utah St, but when he went to Wisconsin, Barry Alvarez made it clear they were still going to keep Wisconsin's traditional heavy run first offense. At Utah St they had a spread-ier offense, often with a mobile QB. They weren't always pass-first but they threw the ball more.

Makes sense for Andersen to leave then. If Barry Alvarez can't keep himself away from the coaching aspect of the program no need to be there. Seems like he was a puppet for Alvarez if he couldn't install his own offense.

I wouldn't say he couldn't install his own offense, Andersen is a defensive coach and probably didn't have an offense to install. But when picking what kind of offense to run, Alvarez had more say than other ADs, and really, in Wisconsin, given the kinds of recruits you can get there, it makes sense. But that style might not have been Andersen's cup of tea, or maybe he wanted to do his own thing and have more control.

Meh. I suspect he'll bolt in 2 years for the first HC position he gets offered. It'd be nice to have some continuity at the DC position, but a shot at periodic excellence is probably better than consistent mediocrity or worse. Anybody who can actually recruit some LBs and DBs is good enough for me.
