Do rivalries mean nothing now?

4-2. The one extra loss will mean nothing come spring time.
Who you've beaten, and how, will mean a lot more than some rivalry that was last a real rivalry over a decade ago.

I'd much rather have left GSW and LAC and their fans thinking "damn, Boston is legit, they didn't even have two starters, I dunno how we beat those guys in the spring", and let a few Laker fans be happy for the night. Because Lebron will be playing golf in May and June, and what we've done, and can do, against those other teams, might matter quite a bit.

Looks like I missed a helluva 4th qtr. Damn west coast games. I went to bed semi-annoyed they were letting the Flakers hang around. I may have to watch the 4Q for a shot of schadenfeude later today.
However crazy you think that 4Q was, I promise you it was twice as surreal. Watch the whole thing rather than highlights if you want to experience the full range of sporting emotions.

I fell asleep with the C's up 14 in the 3rd. Woke up at some point and looked at the score and was like, good, C's won, but let the Lakers back in it at the end, and fell back asleep. Not till morning did I get the full story, and then watched the rest of the game with a cup of coffee, and it really was a sight to behold. As is frequent, Marcus both giveth and taketh away (and makes sense he has been sick). Great end to a tough road trip.

Went to bed at halftime, screwed around on my phone before I went to sleep, last checked saw they were up by 20 with like 7:30 to go in the third and assumed it was going to be an easy win. Somehow woke up at about 12:30, checked the score in disbelief, and watched the last three minutes plus OT before falling back asleep. God bless all of you that stayed up to witness the whole thing.

I went to bed around halftime, and while sleeping had multiple dreams that I woke up and checked my phone with different dreams showing different results. By the time I woke up in earnest I was really confused and ready for anything, so OT win did not surprise me, nor did discovering the wild in-game swings that led up to it.

Without diving in any further I assume they got up big and saw the light at the end of the road trip tunnel. Nice to salvage a stressful win.

Best record in the NBA and they’ve played more road games than any team in the top 10 in either conference except Denver (which also has played 16 road games)
I believe the Celts have the easiest schedule left in the NBA. It's been crazy hard so far.

This is the truth - basically the most down on the Cs I've been all year, followed by maybe the most high (that Suns game was very, very high — but so was I).

I almost turned the game off with four minutes left and the Celtics desperately behind. Almost. Then I remembered the resiliency that this core has shown over the past half dozen years and I stuck with it and was rewarded by one of the most amazing comebacks that I can remember in my 40+ years of following the Celtics

How sweet was it that Tatum went to a patented Kobe baseline mid range fadeaway in LA over LeBron James to tie that game and make sure that amazing comeback effort wasn’t for naught?

EDIT. It isn’t ten key play videos because the cameramen missed the sneaky Marcus Smart steal that started the Lakers late decline after the GW three cut the lead to 10

Fantastic 4th quarter rally. Coming back to win after being down by 13 with under 4 minutes to go is impressive. Would not have guessed that Davis, who is shooting free throws at 82% for the season, would miss two freebies with 28 seconds in regulation that would have likely put the game away.

I went to bed at halftime. Watching the highlights this morning I was half expecting Lebron to drain the three for the win with time expiring in the 4th even though I knew the outcome of the game.

A 4-2 roadtrip is a decent outcome. Losing to the Warriors by 16 followed by losing to the Clippers by 20 may help keep this team humble/hungry.

Yes, Tankathon confirms: https://www.tankathon.com/remaining_schedule_strength

Blowing a 20 point lead is bad but staying with it and winning is better. Twitter has a lot to say about AD missing FTs but Smart's steal of LeBron's inbounds was huge. And LeBron's hero ball 3 at the end never had a chance. Beating LA is good. I do hope Joe has a bit of a re-think of the never call TO policy. He needs to be more flexible than he is right now.

Yeah, I mean, it wasn't 2008 NBA Finals Game 4, or 2002 ECF Game 3 (Pierce's 26-pt comeback vs the Nets), but for regular-season resiliency it's right up there. And like, comebacks where you get in a big hole in the first half and fight your way out of it in the 2nd half happen. And we've seen this team over the last few years take their defense to 5th gear and just plain shut teams down, giving themselves the window to come back. But it's a very different thing to have a 20-point lead, blow it so spectacularly you wonder if you're even playing 5-on-5, feel like the floor is tilted against you... and then right the ship and execute a 13-point comeback in the final 4 minutes before blowing them away in OT. The game wasn't a turnaround story, it was a roller coaster.

Man did that suck to watch in the second half though.

They didn't, though! Not entirely. The main overhead camera missed it, but watching live, they showed a replay that had a sideline camera that caught it. I dunno if it was before or after the timeout but they showed it. There is definitely footage out there of Marcus doing Marcus Things.

And LeBron's hero ball 3 at the end never had a chance. Beating LA is good.
They were so visibly exhausted at that end of the game, even conditioning freaks like Lebron had absolutely nothing left in the tank. That's like the hidden secret of most pro sports, conditioning and stamina. It's no secret in tennis or soccer, and it's no factor in baseball, but except when it becomes painfully obvious that a guy is totally gassed and has no remaining ability to move, you just don't see much mention of it in basketball (or football for that matter). Lebron pulled up for a 3 because he probably couldn't make himself drive, even if the odds of him getting a foul and some FTs was like 80%. If that's Steph Curry in that spot, the 3 goes in, not just because he's Steph but because Steph is a conditioning monster and the 3 is what he's looking for there. That's not the core of Lebron's game, that's not his bread-and-butter, he settled for it. Because he had nothing else.

Also, speaking of conditioning, while Marcus Smart seemed to have his tank on "E" vs the Clippers, he held up really well and was still making good defensive plays and rotations well into overtime. I wonder if he just got enough sleep or something.

Yup, totally agreed.

where I was last at
Watching the 4Q now and the Celts whizzing in their pants is painful. Yet I'm strangely sanguine. Last night I might have been tempted to commit a flagrant foul against Sam Sung.

Did the last 2 minute report say if the foul on Kornet on the lob to Davis was the correct call?

What about Westbrook’s reach in foul on Tatum in Overtime when the Lakers were up 4?

https://official.nba.com/last-two-minute-report/?gameNo=0022200413&eventNum=2148

Kornet (BOS) initiates contact with Davis's (LAL) arm, which affects his alley-hoop attempt./
The Westbrook foul is not in the report (it was outside the last 2 minutes of the overtime period). The only incorrect call or non-call was Lebron's uncalled trip of Jaylen Brown near the end of overtime (but Troy Brown committed a take foul right after that anyway).
