Beal's decent TS% the last couple years has been driven to a decent extent by his improved free throw rate. His free throw rate is way down so far this year.

I heard somewhere today that Harden rarely scores 2pt baskets with all the rule changes

0-4 tonight

I hope the Nets sign him to a big/long extension

is it really an odd time to give up? What’s the win probability in that situation?
Teams rarely give up down 13 with more than 5 minutes left. Nash literally just took a timeout because the Celtics were on a run. I'm sure the win prob was tiny, but it was still weird.

FWIW, I dont think Ime really game up, they were trapping and they didn't throw in all the scrubs or anything. But it was odd and atypical time to have your 2 best players out coming back from that TO.

I hear ya, I think those guys were pretty wiped after cutting the lead from 29 though
Yeah could be.

I definitely dont think it was a big deal, they were almost surely going to still lose. We're game threading and just thought it was strange.

More importantly....the Jays were both bad and this version of the Cs are never going to beat a half decent team that way.

Nice run, but you can't get down 29 points. I realize the Nets have one of the 3 best players in the game, but overall an embarrassing effort for a team that's supposed to contend and has Jaylen back.

He is what he is. Very good scorer who can get his. Good shooter. Poor defender. Won’t make anyone around him better.

I think a Jaylen trade is the eventual big move.
Wasn't he supposed to have been a good defender as a younger player? I don't get it. Just poor effort. Maybe distracted with off-field stuff?

Or putting too much focus on the offensive end.
This would be my guess. Hard to make All-Star games and get near max contracts as a wing when you’re not scoring 23-25ppg. His offense scoring progression shows that he works on his game. I doubt he works his defense very much. It certainly doesn’t show up in games.

I don’t think he is distracted, I think he works hard on his game. He is a tremendous athlete that doesn’t seem like a natural basketball player; he more seems like a guy that could have played many sports. About his defense, I guess he can man up ok but he gets lost a lot (I don’t know the scheme for sure but he seems like he fucks up a lot). You can contrast this with GWilliams who really knowns what he is supposed to do but is not nearly as good of an athlete or TimeLord who is also a freak athlete but reads the floor, at least on offense, like he is Bill Walton.

Nevermind just zero assists the last two games, he has zero potential assists as well. That’s almost hard to do, had to double take when I saw.

I’m about to replicate that today at the dinner table…

But jokes aside, it demonstrates the challenge with Jaylen. He looks to score. He doesn’t look to do much else. Some serious tunnel vision going on with him.

From the looks of his videos, JB has spent a lot of time by himself working on his body and his game, which is great. However, that's not really conducive to the improving the other parts of basketball - like court awareness and defense.

I love JB and really root for him but the most disappointing part of his game to me is how much he's declined on defense from when he got into the league.

There is a wine called “Josh”? LMAO
Just because it's way more interesting to talk about wine than basketball, I was in a store the other day that had a Josh wine tasting. It was okay. I didn't buy a bottle. But I did see someone put several boxes of Josh into his car on the way in. FWIW.

Agreed. He has the size, athleticism, and general tenacity to be a really good defender. It just hasn’t developed, for whatever reason. My theory is his basketball priorities shifted to getting buckets to the detriment of the rest of his game.

That turned out to be a very good business decision for him. It’s like the infamous Jabari Parker quite 3-4 years ago, “They don’t pay players in this league to play defense.” You get paid with numbers.
