Water! Didn't get to as close to .500 that I wanted, but to sweep the last 3 games, very entertaining games, is great! Listening to Eck all the last series as well! Will miss him!

Officially finish 8 games behind the Rays for the 3rd WC in a season where Crawford, Winckowski, and Seabold gave them 41 largely terrible appearances because of injuries.

That last shot with OB and Eck embracing and then Eck reaches for the box of tissues as the camera slowly fades to black… was a beautiful thing.

I've always loved Green Fields of the Mind, but have generally focused on the opening and closing grafs. But this line in the 2nd graf is especially resonant to me this year:

"There comes a time when every summer will have something of autumn about it."

Fuck.

The end of baseball season is always a sad time… even in the championship years. For me it’s the line about “you rely on it and when you need it most, it disappears.”

It’s going to be a long, dark, cold winter.

Hope to see you all on the other side (of winter). Whether the Red Sox are good or bad, the SoSH game threads always have a winning season.

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart.

This was a long, hard season that I struggled to get into. Leaving aside 2020, this was the least I've followed the Sox and baseball as a whole since, I dunno, 1992. It was some combination of the rough start for the season, the grueling slog to the end, and 2 kids that kept that dominated my time during games. I saw one game in person this year, which were the first 3 innings of the game where Chris Sale got knocked around *and* broke his hand. They pretty much sums up the year for me.

But, this season is done and next season is beyond the horizon. Today's was the first game I watched in full in a long time and, sad though it was, it was enough to remind that I love to follow this team.

I'm ready for the hot stove. See you all next season.

Did Dave just say Martinez is finishing up his Red Sox career?

edit. I get that it’s 99% likely and I hope that’s true but still.
Based on his swings today (just going by the 8 minute YT highlights) maybe he wants to stay.

The couldn't churn out some bobbleheads to get some more fans in there?
They got to get rid of October regular season games inFenway. None next year at least.
And 2 Yom Kippur games this year was ridiculous. Assuming the Sunday White Sox game isn’t on SNB/ESPN, we’ll have none next year.
And they need to hire someone who is the opposite of a rain dance summoner

Honestly if NESN was smart they should let ECK do the games from CA like espn does with the Manningcast
They need to make a trade with San Diego. A few rain clouds in exchange or Don O. And then move DOB to the radio. Then WEEI and Disney/ESPN/ABC/ACCN can do a platoon with Seanie M for both baseball and CFB

As was mentioned last time you brought this up, this was not the original schedule for 2022.

This is the first year after having MLB TV, I didn't watch a single Red Sox game on it. I did watch two games in person in Atlanta, but I don't know why this team never grabbed my attention otherwise. Hoping for a better 2023, with whatever offseason decisions are made.
