Oubre is tonight's "turns into Steph Curry against the Celtics" candidate. Didn't he miss like 30 shots in a row for Golden State last year? What the hell? I know their 3-point defense isn't great, but still ...

I'm happy to see Tatum taking those heaves. In the past he wouldn't to preserve his 3pFG%. It probably makes little difference in terms of game outcomes, but it does speak to a slight change in mindset.

3point defense. Other than opponent shooting skill, what are the most important traits for a team to excel at this ?

Is it scheme, athleticism, effort, luck, personnel, having a Gobert-type defending in the lane? Something else?

To my eye they are just a bit uncomfortable in rotations and 2nd guessing a bit. Hopefully as they play together it will get better. Kinda think they want to limit paint drives, and are willing to live with few threes

prediction:
Charlotte 56% from 3 in the first half get lazy and settle for 3s in the 2nd half, leads to long rebounds and run-outs by the C's

118 - 110 Celtics

They've got to get Marcus driving to the basket more. I don't think he can manage that without a screen to help him get downhill. He can't beat his guy off the dribble like Schroder can.

TL is lollygagging up and down the court. He's a little bit winded after providing the Celtics with their only interior defense.

Not specific to today, but smart has a lot in common with Christian Vasquez. Both are known more for their defense. Both are considered tough and gritty, both seem prone to lapses in concentration and poor situational awareness, and both have more confidence on offense than they should.

I would love to see MS knock some solid singles into right field and play solid D.

First time I've watched Marcus play defense and thought "there's the Marcus Smart I know and love."

This ball movement stuff may be taking. If it is, I'm definitely excited. That would be a big improvement over last year.
