Alphonso Davies goes down in the first minute with an ankle injury. Didn't look great.

Another drab performance from City .. probably should have won easily on the balance of play. Wonderful goal from Antonio.

Have come to the conclusion I really dislike Phil Foden. He seems biologically incapable of cracking a smile. He looks like a guppy.

edit: Pep indicated Aguero was withdrawn as he was hurt again

Just flipped it on in time to see Zaha makes a great run where he’s fouled twice but the ref plays advantage both times since Zaha keeps control. Dude is good.

I think his reputation as something of a diver is really unfair. He's fouled so often, mainly because he's the best player on the team, but he will fall when fouled often because he's so quick.

In any event, I'm thrilled he is still on the team.

I’m a little predisposed to hating forwards (as a goalkeeper) and City players (as a human with a soul), but I agree that Foden seems particularly unlikable. The bubble break no doubt contributes to it, but the way he carries himself (supreme arrogance instead of confident swagger) is the primary contributor.

I think he was a diver, took the criticism as motivation, and has made surprising hacking defenders by staying on his feet an absolute weapon.

I would really like to go to a game at Craven Cottage someday.

I arrived in London for work the day of a USA-England friendly there that I had totally spaced out on and still regret it.

Robinson Has looked tidy on the ball since I flipped on around 22’. I’d like to see him push the ball and get some dangerous crosses in this half since Palace are conceding space on the wings to clamp down in the middle.

Oh, Zaha looks in real pain there. Not good. Nice goal, brave finish...hope Zaha is ok.

Heh. Glad he’s good. He stepped in the ball awkwardly, hit the post and then got tangled into he net. Could have been bad.

Fulham need to make some big changes quickly. They are totally lackluster.

Which seems to have infected Robinson. He was decidedly middling today - not really poor, but not making much happen either. Of course, this is in the context of a team not making much happen.

So .. when is the Premier League going to give up the pretence that the on pitch video review is the ref actually making the decision? Every time the initial call has been overturned.
Because they only check when it’s an egregious fuckup. “Clear and obvious error” and all that.

Gonna take Chelsea a while to figure out that Werner’s not really a line-leading striker. In Leipzig he pretty much always played off a hold-up guy and drifted left. This Pulisic/Werner/Havertz frontline has no focal point.

Doesn’t matter too much when they get into transition, but hard to build that way when they’ve got possession.

That looked like the winner from Rashford; fantastic save by Mendy.

Liverpool starting Jota along with the normal front 3. I imagine Firmino will be dropping back into the midfield regularly (which he tends to do quite a bit, anyways). In attack they may be more of a 4-2-3-1.

Thieve are the skitters of having a hard CDM as a CB.

That said, it wasn’t a foul, but Mike Dean has to remind us to look at him.

The only good thing is that finally having Liverpool screwed by these awful VAR reviews will fuel the scouse outrage machine and probably FIFA will end up on trial for war crimes

It’s destroying the sport. I will not stop being a broken record on this.

How exactly does VAR give that as a penalty but ignore Harry Maguire wrapping both arms around an attacker's neck?

I don’t know how to write it but that just can’t be reviewed. It’s a nothing challenge at the very edge of the box. It isn’t even a foul but I’m more irritated that they even take a look at it

I’ll go back to a previous, joking conspiracy theory...

The only way to make VAR bad is to consistently make the wrong decision. This is some sort of refereeing cult refusing to show up their own. It’s fucking insane that you can’t take a quick look at something and interpret what you’ve seen in a way that’s consistent with 95% of the rest of the population. They’re at 5%. It makes no sense.

Var needs to be some mechanism for the ref to be flagged to look at something in full speed on a Jumbotron if he just didn’t see. I’ll give him or her two full speed replays to make a decision and we live with it. None of these calls are helping the sport
