Feels like they're actually getting into a normal season rhythm now. Time to hand the lowly Sabres their first loss of the year.

Ullmark will be in net. Foligno is out.

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Hall - Coyle - Smith
DeBrusk - Haula - Kuhlman
Blidh - Frederic - Nosek

Grzelyck - McAvoy
Reilly - Carlo
Forbort - Clifton

Ullmark

Also, this game is not on TV. It's an ESPN+ exclusive. That means you have to have an ESPN+ subscription to watch it. I recommend, it's like $6.99 a month and you essentially get the NHLTV package plus everything else that is on ESPN+ (PGA Tour Live for other golf nerds, I believe the NFL streaming will be there next season, etc.). There's also a bundle with Disney+ and Hulu. Decent bang for your buck, though admittedly adding another subscription service kinda sucks.

Xfinity subscribers, Xfinity has an ESPN+ app so you can pull it up on your TV.

This totally blows that it is not on TV.

I really don't understand why these sports don't see the extra-pay-to-view model as a death spiral.

Awesome way to build up a fan base! Make it so nobody except money-to-burn diehards will watch! (and I am a pretty committed hockey fan, and I could afford it I suppose, but screw them).

Some additional lineup notes. John Moore is going in for Clifton. Nosek gets bumped to the 3rd line, not Kuhlman.

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Hall - Coyle - Smith
DeBrusk - Haula - Nosek
Blidh - Frederic - Kuhlman

Grzelyck - McAvoy
Reilly - Carlo
Forbort - Moore

Ullmark

This is a brilliant strategy.

There's only 4 Bruins games this year that are affected by being only on ESPN+. I think we all can manage.

10/22 at Sabres ESPN+/Hulu
11/26 vs. Rangers 3:30 ESPN+/Hulu
1/20 vs. Caps 7:00 ESPN+/Hulu
4/19 at Blues ESPN+/Hulu

The D+/Hulu/ESPN+ combo is a really great value (and it's Hulu with no ads!!!), but I totally get why people who don't already have it don't want to add another subscription to everything else that's going on. It's already so hard to keep track of what I am paying for.

Anyhow, let's see what Ullmark's got. From what I have read, the reason Swayman was starting early was that Ullmark hadn't yet adjusted to the Bruins' defensive play style through camp, so it should be interesting. Of course, if the D is as bad as it was the other night, it isn't going to matter much if they put Prime Brodeur in net.

I have Xfinity but ESPN+ isn’t on mine. Hulu is, but no ESPN+.

FWIW, they weren't that bad defensively on Wednesday. It looks really bad because of 6 goals against and there were some obvious breakdowns that immediately led to goals (Forbort pinch, Reilly turnover to name 2). However, they only allowed 1.68 xGA. They had 27 games last year where they allowed more xGA. So it was basically a middle of the road game for them defensively by xGA. They actually only allowed 4 high danger chances against (tied for 8th best game in that area over the last year + 2 games), but 2 of them went into the net. League average save percentage on high danger shots is in the ~.820ish range. Better goaltending and a little better puck management and they'll be fine. End of the day they dominated the Flyers but Swayman had his first letdown game and Martin Jones surprisingly played above average. If the team plays like that for the remaining 80 games, they'll win a shit ton of games.

I got nothing. I heard rumblings about Halftime being closed, set to reopen as "J Pace Express" or something. The current incarnation of North Station can fuck off

I think it’s becoming a split Halftime / J Pace per the one short blog post I read. So may not be fully gone.

I'm going to be a broken record about this this season, but Marchand for Selke. That was a pure dirt takeaway to get the puck away from the Sabres player. Defense into offense.

With Craig Smith on the ice, the Sabres are out attempting the Bruins 22-1.

It's 15-2 Sabres when Erik Haula is on the ice.

Ullmark hit the mark. Good news on the goalie front. Not to rag on Swayman, but he needs work.

This has been a pretty awful performance other than Ullmark.
It's so weird, they looked really good against Philly and lost 6-3, and I thought they looked like hot garbo most of tonight, and somehow won 3-1. Sports don't make sense sometimes.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Porters, but it seems to be the only thing close enough that kind of fits the old North Star setting. They won the last time I went there after learning McGanns was closed. I’ve spent 30 minutes of my morning today staring at various satellite photos of the TD Garden area. I still don’t feel good about my plan. Maybe I will let my spidey sense guide me when I get down.

McGann's is gone?!
“Temporarily closed” for what has been over a year now. Makes me sad.

The bbq joint isn’t too bad for a beer and some wings.
I googled “BBQ joint” but didn’t find anything. However, I did find a dispensary next to Greatest Bar called Ascend. I doubt that’s what you meant by joint, but they have a great sale on something called Captain Cake though.

Yeah I was gonna suggest Causeway as well. Good spot overall.

I don’t love Porters solely due to the layout. Nowhere to stand and hang out for a beer, basically have to luck into a bar seat or get a table.
