Not able to watch here, but it looks like the defense made a big adjustment and only allowed a total of 5 high-danger chances tonight (even-strength). Ullmark of course did the rest.

Really? I love watching em and I love being in net trying to shut em down
I’d much rather watch sudden death overtime. Playoff overtimes are so exciting.

I appreciate the skill of the shootout but I don’t like ending up there after only 5 mins of overtime.

I do see how a goalie can find it thrilling.

I think if it wasn't over in 5 minutes I would like it more. 5 minutes seems too short before you go to the shootout.

Oh I get the enjoyment for most of sudden death. I straight up have anxiety the whole time I watch playoff overtime haha

I wonder whether some actuary-type has figured out how many games would go to shootouts if they increased OT to 10 minutes, which doesn't seem to be too much to ask.

At the very least, OT should be extended to accommodate any penalty time remaining. It's kinda broken that you can commit all kinds of infractions to disrupt a scoring chance in the last minute of OT for what amounts to a pretty miniscule repercussion.

That's a good idea and I've never considered this.

I don't like that idea. I mean, they don't extend periods to fit in PP's. What happens if the offense takes a penalty during the power play? That's the end? Extend it out the 2 minutes so the other team can get a brief power play on the back end? Too many vairables.

I wouldn't want to mess around with the clock. It is what it is. That said, I've always thought that if you are in the penalty box at the end of overtime, you should be ineligible for the shootout.

This occurred to me while watching last night. The defense already has one point. Going down 4-on-3 for the last 25 or 30 seconds is a risk worth taking to stop a high-quality chance. They're imperfect comparisons, but in soccer -- where timing is certainly less precise -- the ref rarely blows a tie or one-goal game dead if a team is on the attack in their offensive end. And in field hockey, a penalty corner (roughly equivalent to a corner kick in soccer) can start or continue past the final whistle as long as the offensive team keeps the ball inside the scoring area.

I've always like the play out the penalty at the end of OT thing too. Not really comparable to end of period since you'll still get the rest of the the pp when the next period starts. I'd say put 2:00 on the clock and play it out. If the offense takes a penalty it's the equivalent of even strength so OT is over and you go to the shootout.
I also realize it's about 560,734th on the list of things to fix in the scheme of things and I'mnot all that worked up about it.
