The most annoying thing about the Red Sox losing is Joe Castiglione's increasingly whiny, nasally voice every time the Red Sox make an out. Any idea if he has plans to retire? Preferably in the next couple of days?
lol aaaaand we’re turning on Castig

He's annoying at times but not anti-Sox. Everyone always hates the announcers when their team loses.
No, he is. I don't think Buck is anti-Sox. Smoltz clearly has a preferred team in this series. That's fine, he's allowed to have an opinion. But it shouldn't affect his job performance.

He needs to make sure Renfroe and Vazquez do not play another inning this series. He needs to stand up there and say he fucked up the game plan and bullpen management.
I wouldn’t mind giving Renfroe or Valdez a game off. Renfroe was never going to sit against a lefty.

He’s never going to say I used the wrong guy because that could be seen as a knock on the guy or guys who failed. He doesn’t do that.

Rogers Park
who do you have in mind?
Yup. Or maybe Corey Seager.

Basically, our infield defense needs a rebuild. Casas is coming as soon as the second half, so that's first base handled. And I think Devers has become playable at third, but if we're going to go with big bats at the corners, which makes sense given personnel, we need to do better in the middle infield.

Maybe that means signing a SS and moving Bogaerts to second (or LF), maybe that means adding a plus defensive 2B who can play SS, but we need someone who is above average on both sides of the ball at SS or 2B.

We have to assume Bogaerts is opting out.

Here’s the thing: I wouldn’t very much mind if Smoltz was pulling for the Astros this season if every word that came out of his fucking mouth wasn’t dripping with arrogance

I like Joe Castig, but he does get whiny when the team hits into outs or squanders.

What' the evidence for this? It's seemed to me like he's rooted for the pitchers and a more competitive series. But maybe I'm in the dark on this.

As Castig points out just now, that makes 14 consecutive shutout innings for the Astros. No way we can win like that. Feast or famine for sure.

Miami (oh, Miami!)

He was quick enough to slap down Erod pointing at his wrist.

But in this context is also means gets not to say that he used the wrong guy. Amazing how that works.

eovaldi

Perez has lousy command and the bases were loaded

He’s also just not a good pitcher and Cora threw him into a key moment in a playoff game
Eovaldi was pretty clearly on a pitch count since he's going to pitch on Friday. He was already at 24 pitches, and he's actually not much better against lefties than Perez.

If he only faces lefties then yes he is a good pitcher. Unfortunately most batters are not lefty, which makes him a bad pitcher since he has to face them too.

Cora lost confidence in him after he gave up a couple runs, I guess.
I think Houck didn't pitch him last night because Cora thought he might have to come in early today.

I bet if Brasier got out of the sixth with the score 3-0, Houck comes in to start the sixth. But instead he saved him for situations that never came up.

Did any of you order an 8-run defecit going into the bottom of the eighth?? It’s just been sitting back there under a heat lamp and I was just wondering.
