Interesting game. The Cs played some really good basketball but also played some really bad ball. NYK won because of that 3Q stretch where BOS missed some open 3s + turned the ball over and didn't get back on defense. I was hoping to spend less time this year shaking my head at the screen but apparently that's a pipe dream.

Interesting that Josh Richardson didn't play.

Not a huge fan of the switch everything defense but hopefully Cs get better at that. The one Fournier 3P where JB and TL looked at each other about what happened seemed to sum up much of the Cs defense.

if the Cs had AL and Richardson tonight, they might have held their early lead and won this one handily. I’m looking forward to the entire rotation being available

Richardson was ruled out with migraines.

The minutes seemed to affect TL’s lift on offense. He might be the best lock down defender 1-5 in the league on switches. Smaller players continue to get jumpers blocked, and TL is a bitch for and player to take to the rim.
Seemed to me that TL was making a conscious effort to stay on the floor more. Maybe as part of plan to try to stay healthy?

Hot take....
We would have won that game with Brad coaching. Ime wasted every Post-Timeout SLOB, he ran guys way too many minutes, he missed an obvious challenge, he never adjusted going under screens on Fournier. He was rough tonight.
Hot take - Brad leaves GW in to get abused by Randle; doesn't let JB or TL play more than 35 minutes, and the Cs lose in regulation.

You think Brad plays GW more than 31 minutes.... I really doubt it.
I bet Brad goes to Kanter during that scoring lull is the major difference. As to JB or TL.. they played 35 minutes in regulation. Brad maybe plays TL a few less minutes with Kanter post work time for 3 minutes.

I think Brad steals you 4-8 points minimum by designing actual play out of timeouts, and he has Fournier's man go over the screen instead of giving him open 3s. I also think he puts Nesmith or Romeo in during OT for fresh legs when everyone was dying. He also challenges the Jaylen play stealing us another 3.

I like Ime, I think I was the first person on the board to say he should be a candidate. He had a really rough first night, hopefully he learns from it.

I actually have no idea; just playing Devil's advocate. I wonder what Brad thought as he watched it.

As for bolded, Ime apparently said that the EF issue was that Cs went from switching 1-5 to keeping TL on Randle and other players got confused when TL didn't step up.

I hate to say this but as a team while BOS players are good at playing basketball, they don't seem to have any BBall IQ savants on the team, if you know what I mean.

My biggest problem with Ime right now is this goofy sweater he is wearing. He is a handsome guy and he looks ridiculous in this get up. It has to be distracting to the players.

Great point. TL needs to play more with his feet under him, as opposed to recklessly going after everything off balance and extended.

The great Bill Russell was a master at conserving his full out, superhuman defensive prowess until it was most needed.

The mask appeared to affect Pritchard's shooting, but he was hustling like a madman and came up with several offensive rebounds and loose balls. The C's could have used that energy late in the first and in most of the second overtime.

From my perspective, that was a hell of an interesting game to watch and while some elements were frustrating as hell, there were plenty of positives to take away from it. Just seeing a different/new coach reacting in some novel ways to common issues we have seen our guys exhibit was fascinating. I would love to be a fly on the wall when Ime addresses some of the shitty decision making and pouting Tatum was displaying when things were not going his way. Grant and Romeo had solid games, to the point where I was re-accessing my ceiling for both of them. Nesmith took too much Ritalin. Jaylen didn't surprise me. I fucking love that dude, he's such a joy to root for. Top 3 Celtic in that way for me. Smart and DS were both good/great in stretches but had me worried a bit about getting consistent point guard work from this team.
Horford would have really helped in this game because NY is a big team. Timelord was solid over long stretches but I did notice him out of position a few times which led to some easy layups/alley-oops by the Knicks.
Continue to remain intrigued, enthused, and optimistic, and feeling good on the "over" pick I put in a few days ago for season win totals. Bring on Toronto.
