Nearly every missed call was an incorrectly called strike and he fucking pulls out the opposite at that moment. Fucking prick.
Yeah that's what's so hard to stomach. He'd been calling stuff off the plate a strike all night and then suddenly a pitch that's actually on the corner of the zone is called a BALL?

Just awful in every way.

I still don't know why you go to Whitlock in the 7th. Ottavino whiffs Correa looking (his only batter faced) to end the 6th. You've got Tucker coming up to start the 7th. Why not see if Ottavino can steal a couple of outs, and go to Whitlock at the first sign of trouble.

Why not let Pivetta go another inning?

Of course, all of these buttons Cora pushed were fine until Laz fucking Diaz. And folks citing the 0-8 with RISP by the Sox and 17 LOB is also directly related to Diaz' strike zone turning into the size of a continent at the most inopportune times all night.
thank you

Renfroe's positioning was the difference. With your best pitcher on the hill, giving up a single is not the end of the world. You do NOT want anything hit over your head in that situation.

Ok laz missed a call, so go out and make the next pitch. I mean Eovaldi still gets some blame.
He didn't just "miss a call." He missed strike three that would have ended the inning with the score tied and the Red Sox coming to bat. Nothing that happened after that would have happened.

At least a rally here would (a) chew up some of Pressly for tomorrow, and (2) maybe get the bats back on track.

If the Sox score here it’s even more enraging since it would have been a walk off if Laz could perform his actual job

It's not even stealing outs. He's a solid reliever who has flaws who has been pitching well and most importantly he strikes people out. Cora mapped out the plan and didn't deviate for whatever reason.

Diaz sucked all night. The JD missed call was probably worse and he was awful for the Sox on the previous batter. It’s enraging but you have to pitch around it. You can’t give up 7 runs after that and whine about the ump

I’m not saying the Red Sox would win this game if Diaz had called an even passable game, but at least it would’ve been equitable. He had at least three horrible calls that clearly changed the game. It’s his job to know the strike zone.

any time you bring in a new pitcher, there is a chance they don't have it that night. Pivetta was cruising, no reason for the quick hook. You don't HAVE to manage differently just because its the play offs.

It’s tough to burn two decent relievers in Otto and Taylor, who got three outs on a total of ten pitches.

But it happens when you are up just one and facing a tough lineup esp when those two guys are pretty flawed relievers.

That’s kind of been the problem with the Sox pen. The only guys who can go an inning or two and don’t need to be protected (by not facing LH or RH) are Whitlock….and whatever starter is working out of the pen that day.

I guess if you win tomorrow, Eovaldi moves to game 7. Otherwise, it's a tired Eovaldi trying to save their season game 6.

Is Fox really trying to invoke Mazeroski? I don't think the Astros are the equivalent of the Pirates in 1960.
Astros pitching coach apparently was talking about the series today, which is why they brought it up to fill time when he went to the mound
