The pen is just not good enough. One thing goes wrong with Whitlock giving up the homer and the wheels come off.

I get what they were trying to do with Ottavino and Taylor but eventually you run out of guys to play matchups with.

I think using Eovaldi is Fine if ahead. But less if tied unless in extra innings. But I’d never use Perez in a high lev situation with Brasier and Robles available. Handedness be damned.

Cora will take heat but our two best pitchers coughed up the lead. Pitchers gotta pitch. And our hitters were abysmal tonight to boot. This one is squarely on the players (with a big assist to the dog crap home plate ump).

Welp this loss will be brutal. Houston got to kinda reset their bullpen as weird as that sounds and Boston used its aside from Houck and Sale won’t last 2 innings tomorrow I doubt so he’ll be used up for a game 6. Worst-case scenario basically.
Calm down nobody but Whitlock pitched much, everyone is available.

Bull shit game, F you Diaz.

Martin Perez is horrible and should never pitch in a meaningful game. That’s on Cora.

Lost 100% of their mojo.

Yeah, sorry. No.
Feel free to cuddle up with your "human element" microfiber plush blanket. The worst umpire in MLB fucked this game multiple times. In the age of high-definition TV and real-time data on pitch location, we need robot umps and we need them badly.

Well at least I can go to bed now.

I have game thread proof that I wanted Ottavino back out for the 7th, then Whitlock, then Robles. I didn't love the bullpen management. Eovaldi felt like a desperation move. Perez is baffling.

So we use our best starter, go down a run, and then go straight to arguably our worst reliever. I guess Cora just wanted to end it before burning through more guys.

Pivetta was dealing 2 hits over 5. No reason to pull him. Cora overmanages at times. Have to trust what your eyes are seeing.

Sox are one arm short.
that's why you stick with an effective starter despite the "third time through" rule. REDUCE your reliance on your bullpen. I understand if you have lights out relievers to be more automatic about pulling a guy before third time through. BUT THE RED SOX DON'T HAVE THAT. So you have to make a decision considering ALL circumstances.

You just can’t have games of this magnitude decided by a guy who makes calls that are immediately and obviously wrong to the entire viewing audience. This is beyond Diaz and is on MLB. This is unwatchable horseshit. The entire outcome of this game sprung from the imagination of a guy who sucks at a job that neither he nor anyone else should be doing in the first place.

Going to Perez there was like Monty Burns putting Homer up bc he was playing the percentages

Perez ever coming into this game under any circumstances is just unforgivable.

Eovaldi already was burned for the inning, at least let him try to finish it off.

Right? Can’t believe they didn’t let Evoldi finish the inning.
He was already at 20 pitches and had lost the lead. He didn't look great against Altuve, either.

The plan was perhaps aggressive, but not without merit. That Whitlock and Eovaldi spit the bit isn't on the plan.

THAT SAID, leaving yourself with just Perez after Eovaldi can't hold the tie is...not optimal.

I have to disagree. This game was given to Houston on a shit no strike call. Everything that comes after that doesn't matter.
